Posted: 06 Mar 2022 08:36 AM PST Here's the specification of the Mac Apple MacBook Air® early 2015 Intel Core i5 4GB Memory 128GB Flash Storage I did something stupid and handed this over to Best Buy recycling without formatting/removing the SSD hard drive (or wherever data is stored. I am not good woth computer hardwares). Should I be concerned with personal information stored in it? Best Buy associate told me that it already was sent to recycling partner and that I have nothing to worry about since they render data irrecoverable. [link] [comments]
Dropped my USB cable in oil by mistake. How do I clean it? Posted: 06 Mar 2022 11:03 AM PST Not sure if it belongs here but as the title says, I had my charger in hand and there was a bowl of oil on the table and the cable sort of dipped into it. I immediately took it out and wiped off the oil with a cotton cloth but I'm pretty sure there's more in the port. What's the best way to clean it without causing any harm? [link] [comments]
Posted: 06 Mar 2022 09:08 AM PST Someone got me a syringe of thermal paste, but I don't know where to store it. What it means is should I keep it somewhere hot or somewhere at the temperature of the room. Is a wooden drawer good? Will it be too hot? [link] [comments]

Laptop fell on the ground - stopped working Posted: 06 Mar 2022 04:20 AM PST My laptop (Lenovo Y700) has fallen on the ground from the couch (not really high above the ground), I tried turning it on afterwards, it did power on but the screen didn't seem to show anything, i tried force restarting it and the same thing kept happening. The next day, the battery seemed to have run out. So now it didn't even power on (no lights, nothing) I tried plugging it in and the charging light didn't work, it didn't charge and now it looks completely dead. Any idea what might be the problem? Is there any hope of it working again? [link] [comments]
Unable to open files directly - Plasma/EndeavourOS Posted: 06 Mar 2022 04:30 AM PST Hi all, I am experiencing this strange issue where if I open up my file explore (Dolphin) and double-click a file, the mouse cursor will very briefly flash the logo of the application but nothing else will happen and the file does not open. For example double clicking a PDF file I'll see a quick flash of the Okular logo next to the mouse cursor but that's all that happens. This is happening with all file types as far as I can tell including ODT/S files that should open in libreoffice and jpegs that should open in Gwenview. I have tried right-click > open with but same thing happens. I can workaround this by opening the application itself, e.g. Okular and then going to File > Open > [filename]. This works no problem. Also if I go to the terminal and, for example, type:
The application will launch and the file will open without issue, and there are no error messages displayed within the terminal. I don't believe this to be a permissions issue as this behaviour is consistent with files stored in a variety of places including files stored locally within my home directory. Further system details as follows: OS: EndeavourOS Linux x86_64 [link] [comments]
My noctua cpu fan died for the second year in a row Posted: 05 Mar 2022 07:12 PM PST Hey! I bought a nh-l9a-am4 on 15 February 2020 1 year later (8 February 2021) I had to replace the fan it just flat out died on me so I bought a nh-a9x14 to put in its place Today after a couple months of struggling that fan died! It seems they die 1 year almost to the day apart is there anything I can do about this? I've sent a message about possible Warranty to them but I need my computer working by Monday! Is it worth it to get another fan from noctua or should I just get a completely different fan altogether? [link] [comments]

Website to change internet service on other devices? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 05:03 PM PST Years ago I used a web page (requires driver installation) that allowed me to modify the internet reception of the devices connected to the network. He simply chose the device and chose what percentage of the internet he received. Forgot the name of the page. Does anyone have a suggestion? [link] [comments]
Laptop has been electrified and issues painful current when plugged into wall Posted: 05 Mar 2022 07:04 AM PST 2018 Microsoft surface book 2 The stock charger recently broke so I ordered a cheap one off eBay Since then when the laptop is plugged in to charge it becomes electrified and if I hold my finger on it issues a continuous current which is painful to the point I can't use it while plugged in. Firstly, is this going to damage my laptop's hardware in anyway? Is it a danger in any other way example a fire risk etc If no, what would you do, is it fine to keep it going like this, and just not use it while it's charging? I'm not made of money... It is currently not plugged in until I hear further advice. TIA TLDR in response to a new charger my laptop has become electrified and issues a continuous painful current when plugged into the wall . please advise [link] [comments]
Dell XPS 9700 not shutting down Posted: 05 Mar 2022 11:34 AM PST My new Dell XPS 9700 doesnt shutdown when I use the windows shutdown option. The screen turns off but my cpu fans and keyboard light is on (and laptop also gets hot after I shutdown). I tried changing/defaulting power plans, removing Intel service management etc. But the issue is still there :( I also did a BIOS reset to 'BIOS defaults" (there was a Dell/Vendor default as well, I didnt select that) [link] [comments]
Posted: 05 Mar 2022 11:25 AM PST I have had a sager P970RD laptop for about two years. it has been awesome, never given me trouble until a few days ago. the screen would glitch and freeze and i would have to restart my computer. i troubleshooted and eventually narrowed down my problem to overheating. i took apart my computer, cleaned and dusted the inside, getting all of the dust out of the fans. i also cleaned off the thermal paste from my cpu (intel core i7-9750H cpu) and applied new thermal paste. after that my computer stopped crashing, and i was able to game un-interrupted for about a day. then the same problem started happening again. i checked my cpu and graphics drivers and everything is up to date. according to core temp, my cores sit at around the low 80s to the high 90s in Celsius. i even have a cooling laptop stand that keeps it up and elevated, and a fan pointed right at it. Computer Black on boot, Monitor gets No Input and USB devices flash Posted: 04 Mar 2022 08:51 AM PST Hi there, been having problems figuring out an issue with my Windows 10 pc. I have an Alienware Area-51 Threadripper R7 that has been having difficulties lately. While trying to diagnose a problem I disabled secure boot (a stupid idea I now realize) and it no longer will even show the bios menu, as the monitor gets no input from the PC. The fans still run with no issue, but strangely enough they keyboard's light to show NUMLOCK flashes on and off, and when plugging in other flash drives that light up when connected they also blink on and off. I've tried the following to attempt to fix it, each without helping at all: - Put CMOS jumper on reboot for a few minutes and then back to normal - Reseated the CMOS battery - Reseated both sticks of RAM, also tried removing one stick of RAM while leaving the other in - No button combination on the keyboard helps solve the issue - Plugged in USB drive with Windows Recovery ISO on it to attempt to boot from that, still no display PC Specs are as follows: Processor: AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2920X (12-Core/24-Thread, 38 MB cache, up to 4.3 GHz Boost Frequency) Graphics Cards: - NVIDIA GTX 1060 - NVIDIA Quadro P1000 - 16 GB RAM (2 8 GB sticks) - 2 TB SATA 7200RPM HDD - Windows 10 Any help would be appreciated, thanks! EDIT: Forgot to mention that the issue I was having before was that the computer was continually restarting at the boot screen, which could be why the usb devices are flashing. [link] [comments]
Game is crashing after the new patch. Posted: 04 Mar 2022 11:42 AM PST Hi! Dota was never crashing for me before the patch 7.31 which is the big reason why I think it's the patch's fault that I'm still experiencing them. I enter Dota, it crashes all the same at the demo, arcade, or Dota match. There is no error that appears, no pop-up, just a crash. I check the minidump file that the crash created, Access Violation Error it says on the minidump file. I pretty much went through everything that google offered to fix this error. These are the "fixes" that should have helped.
Before I did clean drive install I shared my problem with a user at r/techsupport and sent mdmp files to him. This is what he managed to get from mdmp files:
After that he suggested the clean driver install. All of these DLLs are from Dota and Steam apart from nvwg2fumx.dll. I am really out of options, if anyone here can suggest something I'm willing to try it out. I also shared my problems with Steam Support, they weren't able to fix it. Thanks for reading, I hope someone will reply with a suggestion! [link] [comments]

Xfinity says net cutting in and out is on my end. What can I do? Posted: 03 Mar 2022 08:38 PM PST I can do some electrical, plumbing, drywall, garage full of tools and tinkerings, but at 31 I'm not super tech-adept sadly. I know my way around things I've grown up with, all the basics, how to access things if I'm told to get to it, but I'd be lost on my own. Anyways, several months ago my internet started going out a lot more than it has before. It's a very frustrating first world problem. I work around it by using my phone as a Hotspot for my smart TV, but that doesn't work on the other TV. I'm tired of unplugging my router. I checked Comcast xfinity box, connections are tight. Connections on router and wallplate are secure. My router is an arris surfboard SGB7580-AC I cannot login when I go to the router address, idk the password lol. I am guessing I need access to that to make sure it is up to date? And moreover, is this model still relevant enough? It seemed to be a pretty future-proof router when I bought it with fantastic ratings. I think I got it in 2017 Anything I'm missing that a not-noob but definitely not-techy person can try?
