"Your publisher account is now always considered a licensed tester and can make make test purchases in your application."

It only took 10 years for this logical step. And they still made typo in announcement. :D

Developer account terminated. What are my options?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 07:31 PM PDT

I got an email the other day that my developer account was terminated and that I shouldn't try to create a new account and should find a new way to distribute my app. I went through the appeals process and the appeal was denied. The reason was just "Multiple policy violations" with nothing more specific. I received no warnings and my app wasn't removed prior to the termination, so I have no idea what policy violations they're referring to.

I just had one stupid tarot card app that I made as practice to learn how to publish an app to the store. It was free, didn't have ads and didn't have any in-app purchasing. There wasn't anything offensive beyond what was on the pictures of tarot cards (some people getting stabbed, etc). It certainly wasn't any more offensive than any of the other dozens of tarot card apps.

Most of the articles I've seen regarding account terminations are pretty disheartening. Is there anything I can do beyond finding another line of work?

Kotlin Linters - what is everyone doing?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 11:19 AM PDT

Our code base is becoming more and more Kotlin and less and less Java. I want to enforce some lint checks, static analysis, and style checks for the Kotlin code we write. Ideally in the same way as our Java projects do. That is via Android Studio's inspection, via a dedicated IDE plugin (Checkstyle), and via a Jenkins plugin (Checkstyle, Android Lint, Findbugs).

What's everyone doing in this area?

How to create a 'free premium upgrade as reward for sharing the app' incentive?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 10:54 AM PDT

'Free upgrade if sharing with 5 others no matter if they install the app or not'

    or

'Free upgrade if sharing with 1 other and receiver also installs the app'

    Anyone who did this/ideas/tips/cautions etc.?

Anybody has issues with uploading apk to play console today?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 01:33 PM PDT

Was able to upload an apk file to play console yersterday. However, it says there's an error in saving the apk file today. Wondering whether that's just me or an issue with the play console. Thanks.

What ASO tools do you use? What features do you actually find useful?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 10:26 AM PDT

    Hi all 👋,

I'm using mobileaction for my Android app. However, recently canceled my subscription to their startup plan, simply because I didn't find enough use of the service.

Somehow, I ended up using the service only to track ranking of 15 keywords. Nothing else.

There are so many features, that I just don't find accurate. The estimated downloads, keywords difficulty and traffic values. Integrated play store account with the service, and didn't really get any insight from that.

Tried other ASO tools, however, got similar feeling (may be App Annie is good, but don't have money for that😂)

I'm sure there is value in these tools, but I'm definitely missing something.

Do you actually find them useful for your ASO research and implementation processes? If yes, at what step do you actually use them, and how?

Perhaps, these services work better with apple app store 🤔

    Playstore app policy sign-up

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 01:11 PM PDT

Hi, I've a question about app policy: Can I make an optional sign-up in my app (only for some countries) to give some benefits to those who register (like less ads)?

I'm not talking about law but if I can retreive sensible data from users that is not strictly necessary for app functionalities.

In MVP, what is the right way to handle creating intents, opening new activities, and finishing current ones with the Presenter instead of the View? Do you have to pass Context as an argument to perform these activities?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 04:16 PM PDT

finish() specifically isn't a context method, so should you call it in the View itself at the appropriate time? But you should handle creating an intent and starting a new activity in the Presenter? Sorry about my confusion.

Should I start by using Andriod Studio?

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 09:51 AM PDT

I'm a PC software developer(Java/Kotlin). I want to make mobile applications. It's nice to run them both on iphone and andriod devices, but I think cross-platform is too hard for a newbie. So I want to start with android apps. But I can not decide to go with AS or React Native, etc.

    Question about selecting elements

    Posted: 26 Sep 2018 02:47 PM PDT

So I asked a question about Bluetooth and realized I was nowhere near ready for that stuff yet but I want to know what is it called when you select an item from a list view and the app transitions into an activity. So if this seems vague I am following the google udacity course and dont know too much about android yet. I am making a tour guide app that will preview images that the user can see and then once they press the selected item the screen transitions to a full description. A link to a google doc would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks so much

App removed due Violation of Usage of Android Advertising ID policy and section 4.8 of the Developer Distribution Agreement, app does not use any analytics/ads/crash tracking. Help?

    Posted: 25 Sep 2018 07:40 PM PDT

To make it clear: I don't have a problem with adding a privacy policy. I just want to know where this advertising id is coming from, because I don't use any ad, analytics or crash tracking libs. I'd rather remove any lib which is tracking my users because I don't want them to be tracked.

So my app was removed because of the alleged mentioned violation.

The complete message is as follows:

Issue: Violation of Usage of Android Advertising ID policy and section 4.8 of the Developer Distribution Agreement

Google Play requires developers to provide a valid privacy policy when the app requests or handles sensitive user or device information. We've identified that your app collects and transmits the Android advertising identifier, which is subject to a privacy policy requirement. If your app collects the Android advertising ID, you must provide a valid privacy policy in both the designated field in the Play Console, and from within the app.

My app is not using any analytics/ads/crash tracking. Here is my build.gradle. Do you guys have any clue if this could have been an mistake by Google?

I can't debug my app right now, but does somebody know if a lib I use is using the advertising id?

Edit: does anybody know how I can check if the advertising id is sent?
