When I try to start, a message comes up saying "Exposing sensitive info during casting/recording" and gives you the option to cancel the recording or start it. If I hit start, nothing happens. Honestly this wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but now every couple of minutes or so that screen just randomly pops up. Whatever I'm doing, it'll just switch to that screen and make me hit start or cancel again. Help with playstore - update notes stopped showing Posted: 09 Oct 2019 03:34 PM PDT Playstore no longer shows notes for app updates Seemingly out of nowhere this started happening. When I go to the app updates I like to read the notes for the new version. There is a down arrow. When I click it the arrow animation changes to signify it dropped down however nothing actual drops down with the info. What is the least evasive way to resolve this? unlocked note 8 imei issues Posted: 09 Oct 2019 06:40 PM PDT i have a samsung note 8. i bought it from t mobile it was completely unlocked via the unlock app. i have confirmed its unlocked with different carriers sim cards. i went onto both the sprint and verizon bring your own phone site. i put in the imei and both sites say this phone cant be activated on sprint or verizon. 1 month ago these websites said my phone would work fine. i dont think its blacklisted ​ 2 weeks ago i put a different carriers sim card in the phone then i pushed the popup to restart. the phone said reprovising and the other carriers startup screen popped up. later that day i put my t mobile card back in the phone it says t mobile again. ​ t mobiles tech support says its still unlocked. can you help? submitted by /u/madbr3991 [link] [comments]

What's the status on Android performance degradation in flagships phone? Posted: 09 Oct 2019 06:46 AM PDT Backstory is as follows: I always bought bottom-mid range Android phones (Around 200-250 euros) that I would change once every 18-24 months. Now, my Huawei P Smart from 2018 is starting to slow down after some 15 months of usage and that reminds me of the feeling of having a slow phone for six months to a year and I don't want to experience that anymore. When I'm looking at my girlfriend that has been rocking iPhones her whole smartphone life, she's only had three phones in ten years: A 4, an SE and now an 8. She kept her SE for what felt like forever (4-5 years I want to say) and I remember the phone not feeling sluggish at all before she upgraded. The reason I'm bringing this up is that I don't know how much of the degradation in the performance of my devices is due to me "cheaping out" and not buying a 600-700 euros phone once and keep it four years or Android being less optimized than iOS. So here I am, ready to spend money. Looking at Samsung S10, Huawei P30 Pro, One Plus 7 Pro, ... And iPhone 8 Plus, and even iPhone 11. So here is the question, considering my needs here, which is to have a phone that stays fast for four+ years. Should I spend more money on my phones or switch over to iOS? I would lose a lot of games and apps I paid for but at this point, the operating system is not a selling point to me anymore. I just want a long lasting fluid experience for at least four years without flashing ROMs or jailbreaking devices. Looking forward to your comments! Alternative ROM or program to LineageOS' Privacy Guard? Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:35 PM PDT Is there any other ROM, that isn't a LOS fork, that comes with a Privacy Guard alternative? It's the only reason I'm using LOS. The most important options for me are: change settings (eg wifi state), run in background, start at boot, block internet access. I guess Android 10 takes care of the filesystem with the new API (is it only for apps targeting the new version tho?) and the location permission. IIRC the permissions now are not on by default so there's no risk of an app stealing my contact list before I allow them to. I'm very worried about getting malware from ROMs so if they have some kind of reputation and known contributors (IRL) it would be better. Phone powering off in pocket, will not power on until plugged in Posted: 09 Oct 2019 10:29 PM PDT So I have a weirdly specific issue. It's so weirdly specific and there are so many similar issues that I cannot seem to find anyone who's had the exact same issue. And yet, I've had it with two separate Android phones. So basically what's happening is that my phone is shutting off in my pocket. When it does this, I cannot get it to turn back on. It literally will not power on until its plugged in and the charging percentage pops up. Then I can power it on, unplug it immediately and it will work normally with no additional charging from the percentage it was on when it originally powered itself off. I can literally run it all the way down to 0% from there. It does not matter how much battery power I have. I have run it down to 0% by endlessly playing youtube videos to see if it happened at specific power levels. It literally only happens when I put it in my pocket, and it happens within the span of 2-3 minutes of putting it in my pocket. It's making it nearly unusable. It's happening with my Moto Z² on Android version 9.0, firmware PCX29.159-21. I also had it happen on my Droid Turbo 2, it was on the highest version of Android it could get (7.0 I think) and had the latest firmware. Both Motorolla phones. The only thing in my pockets with it is my keys. The only electronics on my keys is the button fob for unlocking my car/trunk. I have done battery calibration. God, have I done battery calibration. I have done battery calibration to death. That is the only troubleshooting step that Motorola will parrot out with incessant enthusiasm. Please, I'll take anything else at this point. SIM card tray won’t go down all the way with sim inside of it. (Galaxy s8) Posted: 09 Oct 2019 03:52 PM PDT I took my SIM card tray to replace sim. It wasn't that easy but came out without what I believe would not be excessive force. The tray will go all the way in without a sim in it but will not go all the way In with a sim in it. Android 10 - MMS no longer requires Mobile Data to be on? Posted: 09 Oct 2019 05:16 PM PDT I'm not sure if this is directly related to Android 10 or just a coincidence. I have a Pixel XL (v1) on AT&T in Texas and recently upgraded my phone to Android 10 (as soon as it was available). I have noticed that now, I am able to toggle Mobile data to 'Off' but still send MMS group messages if I'm connected to WiFi. If I turn WiFi 'Off' I can't send anything, but as soon as I turn it on again the message goes through. I'm running the latest version of Signal which is also marked as my default SMS client. I am 100% sure this is not running through Signal chats since one person in the group has never installed or signed up for Signal. The other 3 users in the group chat are iPhone users and my messages still come through as a "green text" e.g. SMS/MMS and not iMessage chats. Has anyone else noticed this? Is this something AT&T is silently rolling out, a feature of Android 10, or a combination of both? How to get app tray to swipe back to first page (Android 10) Posted: 09 Oct 2019 05:00 PM PDT Just got a new phone and I multiple pages of apps in the app tray. I can swipe all the way to the last page but it won't go back to the first one when I reach the end. I can't for the life of me find the setting that will allow the app tray to loop pages, I'm getting tired of having to swipe all the way right to get to a recently downloaded app when I could swipe left and get there in half a second. Need App to Alarm For Power Failure Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:35 PM PDT Hi - My local power company is doing rolling blackouts that can last from a few hours to a few days, and my area keeps getting delayed and/or it wont happen here.. I need to go to bed soon, but i need a way to alert me to the power going out while I sleep. I have some pets that I help take care of, and would have to manualy switch their stuff to a backup battery system. ​ Does anyone know of an android app, that will set off an alarm if phone is disconnected from power source? That seems to be the easiest way to get something to alert me. Anyone else getting strange behaviour from Play Store? Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:30 PM PDT I'm on Nougat. Been using Substratum for some time along with Swift Dark. I applied Swift Dark on Play Store but it was looking weird, the overlay didn't work properly. So I removed it and restarted my phone. To my surprise, Play Store was updated to version 17 and had dark mode by itself. Google Chrome and Google Assistant only register audio when I have headphones in Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:18 PM PDT I recently got a new Samsung Galaxy A50 and it's pretty great so far, except for the fact that I can't get Google Chrome or Google Assistant to hear what I'm saying unless I have headphones with a mic plugged in. I know that the built-in mic works on the phone because I when I record video with both front and back-facing cameras, the audio is recorded as well. I would love to be able to use Google Assistant when I am not using headphones. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Update: I have also tried with Bixby. Same result. Is it possible that one of my two microphones is busted? Update 2: When I talk to someone on the phone, they can only hear me on speaker phone. Posted: 09 Oct 2019 08:17 PM PDT I just bought a Razer Phone 2 after owning an LG G5 for years and I was horrified to find out that they removed the ability to adjust the volume of notifications and calls seperately. Why on earth would they do that? Who wants less control over their phones volume? The battery lasts less than one hour. It depletes from 100% to about roughly 65% in about 30 minutes of use. Sometimes it turns off around 45%-60%, but it never makes it lower than 45%. This makes the phone basically unusable - I keep it nearly permanently plugged into a power brick. I contacted Google Support, who said my warranty expired in August 2018 and I should find an authorized repair partner (could one even help?) I have WhatsApp registered for two mobile numbers (one personal and another for work), but even on a dual-SIM device, I can't simply have WhatsApp running with both accounts. Stuff that Telegram can do with its eyes closed ;) Right now I'm using Parallel Space to have a second instance of WhatsApp, besides the normal app. My question is: is there any other (better) workaround? In previous versions of Android, if you pres the Wifi icon or the Bluetooth icon in the drop down it brings you to the options specific to those icons. In Pie, it toggles them. Unlocked Bootloader on Samsung J7 Prime J727T with broken screen/Non-functioning replacement screen Posted: 09 Oct 2019 05:53 PM PDT Dear Android saints, Thank you for taking time to look at my very messy/complicated attempt to recover my very boomer mother's phone contacts. First off, the phone is a Samsung J7 Prime J727T (according to the S/N behind the battery). I ordered a replacement lcd/digitizer assembly at this link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/For-Samsung-J7-Prime-G610M-G610F-Screen-LCD-Digitizer-Touch-Display-Assembly-OEM/182721818878?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&var=690037551504&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 it didn't work. So, I ordered a new battery for the phone and, at the very least, it turned on! But, still a black screen Now that I look at the link, I see that it's not J727T, does that matter? It fits and looks like the old screen... This isn't my first rodeo replacing a phone screen, more like my third or fourth. Might be pertinent; I don't know. From my experience though, Android screens just have a ribbon with a snap-on strip that needs to be connected to the phone to work. However, when I was taking the old screen off this phone, I really messed up and accidentally ripped the home button ribbon assembly. Is that the reason the new screen isn't working? ​ At this point, I'm almost giving up with trying to get the new screen to work...the alternative, according to what little I've been able to see, is to "flash" the phone using something called "twrp", and I found the following guide: https://www.getdroidtips.com/twrp-recovery-t-mobile-galaxy-j7-prime/ However, I've come to a roadblock. It says " To install TWRP Recovery or any Custom Recovery on T-Mobile Galaxy J7 Prime, you must have a Unlocked Bootloader. Only after doing so you can safely apply everything that's detailed in this tutorial. " The screen is FUBAR, so is, possibly, the new screen, so when I got to this step in the guide, I've got no idea what I'm meant to do. Also, I've never flashed an android phone, sorry.
