Looking for a good alternative to Gboard with an uncensored GIF searcher

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:03 AM PST

I fed up with Gboard's censored gif searches. Almost everything I search for is so PG it feels like I'm some Buzzfeed writer or something.

Is there any good alternatives to Gboard that has a better GIF searcher?

    Package tracking apps?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 12:03 PM PST

Are there any good package tracking apps that cover multiple carriers? Anything I could put a USPS, FedEx and/or UPS number into and get the status of the packages? Alerts would be a nice bonus too.

I order stuff relentlessly for work and it's a pain to have to keep track of the emails with the tracking numbers and check each one individually.

    Thanks for any recommendations!

Anyone know a Reddit app that has the watch feature?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 11:43 AM PST

Hey guys. So I'm using Sync for Reddit at the moment.

Ever since the last update the notifications seem to have stopped working. So it got me to thinking, maybe it's time to try something else.

I like Sync because of the push notifications. But also because of the watch feature it offers for Sub Reddits. It basically watches the Sub in question and then notifies the user of any new posts.

Anyone know of any other Reddit apps that offer that feature?

    TIA. 👍

    Google recorder transcripts

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 12:04 PM PST

Is there any way to retrieve transcripts from the recording of the google recorder? The media extractor doesn't trigger on the OnePlus phones. The transcript is there because we can search the recording through them but can't access them. The app is partially working. Is there a loophole or a workaround!?

Which is the best Email client app?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 07:35 AM PST

    Hello,

I have been using Gmail from very long time.

Some things I do not like in it

    • Unable to copy and paste(move by drag and drop) email ids between to, cc and bcc
    • Unable to search contacts in compose mode.
    • Attachments being in new mail by default
    • issue with signature sometimes, it adds it to bottom but new mail is at top.
    • Top Down approach of mail chain :I will have to scroll a lot if it is long email chain.

    • Save a contact

So I am trying Outlook now, but few of those problems are here as well, especially the copying email ids in compose mode. Additionally it has very small space for reply compose

I have downloaded few apps on my cellphone viz, Aquamail (paid so I won't keep it) BlueMail, Email App

Which app do you think is best? And overcomes the issues mentioned if not all most of those.

[DEV] p2p Search Engine - AI that lives on your phone. FINDY

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 08:00 AM PST

    What is Findy?

Findy is a search engine powered by your phone

    How does Findy work?

    Try " Tesla Model 3"

Findy will attempt to BREW the Tesla Model 3.

    WTF is BREW?

Brew is where the AI kicks in.

Findy is powered by the same engines that power Safari and Chrome (Webkit/Chromium)

    The only difference…

Findy does all the searching, typing, filtering, paging and ad blocking of websites for you.

AKA Brewing the information from the internet.

Once brewed the information is pooled together (aka p2p)

This allows Findy to share desirable content.

    Why need this?

By searching the popular sites Findy typically has 50% more

    Cars
    Boats
    Homes
    Apartments
    Furniture
    Sports
    Hotels
    News
    Pets

Download Findy and let us know what sucks so we can improve it. Thanks!

[DEV] PokéDialer- a dialer themed in old school Pokémon games style

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 02:05 PM PST

    Hi everyone! Here's our story.

I used to own an iPhone for 2 years or so, and I still keep an eye on the jailbreak subreddit every now and then. Not so long ago I saw a tweak called "PokéCall" made by u/FrozenPenguinToaster , which consisted in showing a Pokémon battle in Game Boy style graphics while receiving a call. I tried the tweak on a friend's iPhone, and instantly fell in love with it, so deep that I decided that I had to have a similar thing on my Android device.

A friend of mine (u/oxcened), a software developer, suggested to emulate it, and merging my knowledge of the old school Pokémon games and his knowledge in app developing, PokéDialer was born.

But what can the app do?

PokéDialer is an entire dialer app: - Contact list is fully accessible, with search function; - Recent calls management, with the ability to save unregistered numbers or send messages directly from the calls register; - Contacts are fully customizable, contact's trainer and Pokémon can be freely set; - Same for own trainer and Pokémon; - Choose from all the first 251 Pokémon in the National Pokédex; - Customizable quick responses; - Dark Mode coming soon (currently in testing phase).

The entire app (in-call UI, contacts list, call register, heads-up notification) is Pokémon Crystal themed, with the addition of some nice easter eggs.

The app is now in early access on Play Store, you can download it for free and give us your feedbacks!

    Record phone calls

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 12:19 PM PST

What's an app that record phone calls and you can hear the other person properly? Most apps are awful because they record the microphone thus you can barely hear the other person

How to run Whatsapp on Android, safely, securely, with privacy?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 05:27 AM PST

    Hello all,

I don't like Whatsapp, but sometimes unfortunately it is necessary. Is there an app (container app) for Android so one can run Whatsapp inside a container, so WA only gets access to specific contacts, but not all? So safely, securely, with privacy? It should run on a Oneplus 3T with Custom ROM, without GApps, but with MicroG.

    Best browser alternative to Yandex?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 07:04 AM PST

I'm currently using Yandex Browser, but I honestly don't like it that much. I stuck with it because it has four things I love:

    -"copy image url" option

-smooth website translation (although recently it defaults to Russian and I do not know how to change it back without switching every time)

-barebones but nice homepage, especially for site shortcuts

    -chrome extensions support

Is there any other browser with those features?

I really love Kiwi (although I had to use a custom homepage for better web shortcuts), but it lacks the copy image url, which for me is a must.

Best Video Editing App for My Use

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 07:30 AM PST

    Hey -

I'm looking for an easy-to-use video editing Android app. I'm not well versed in video editing, so the more intuitive, easier-to-use, the better. However, I do have these needs (aside from the basic trimming, etc). so I can ideally use just one app.

    1. Can create GIFs in the app. I'd prefer not to need a separate app for gifs alone.
    2. Has glitch/trance types of effects. I'm looking for effects, not filters.
    3. Can overlay two videos on top of another.
    4. Can have a watermark or translucent text.
    5. Can rotate videos within the app.
    6. The ability to pixelate/blur parts of the video, not just background.
    7. Adjust sounds (including muting completely) in the video.

I am willing to pay, so that's not an issue for me. Would love to hear your suggestions.

    Thanks!

    New to Android customization

    Posted: 11 Feb 2020 06:34 PM PST

Hey all, I'm new to using Android phones and wondering if there's a more straightforward way to customizing the aesthetic of my phone. I currently have a Pixel 4, but I'm coming from years of iPhone Jailbreaking.

I see nothing but posts about using apps and "launchers" to get basic functions like changing app icons, etc. whereas I've been used to installing "mods" or "tweaks" that integrate directly into the OS itself without needing a middle-man app launcher.

I can't find much on this idea though, it really seems third-party applications are the way to go instead of direct modifications (minus rooting maybe, but even that's foreign to me, compared to Jailbreaking)

I have Android studio but no Java/Kotlin experience at the moment but I'm considering just writing my own APKs and sideloading them onto my phone (if that's how it works) just for the sake of customization with utterly full control.

Please let me know your thoughts and advice as I'm kind of lost at the moment as to what my options truly are.

Edit 1: I guess what I'm trying to say, are there methods that make modifications/customization to the phone seem more "organic" as if it came stock with the phone rather than having apps, icons, etc. strung about the phone?

Is it safe to use app Vanced?

    Posted: 12 Feb 2020 06:17 AM PST

There were rumours that Google will block and delete your Google account if you are using an ad-blocker or apps like Vanced. Is it true? I want to be sure before installing.

I never used Vanced just because I wanted to support creator's but the ads are getting so annoying.
