Will jetbrains and their products banned for use worldwide?

Taking in count the events that are happening worldwide, it's there a chance of jetbrains being banned to commerce with US or Europe companies taking in count that is a Russian company? Causing that we couldn't use Android Studio or Kotlin?

CoroutineScope bound to the composable lifecycle questions

CoroutineScope bound to the composable lifecycle questions

Hi, I am learning compose and run into the following example from the documentation what I dont understand:

    https://preview.redd.it/jq6kevwwzxj81.png?width=849&format=png&auto=webp&s=10701cb61d929c3d38e50e683ab600ab6f55e29a

The above code is from the official documentation, I just put a delay and a VM callback there.

My observation: I press the "Press me" button then quickly the device home button. After that while the application is in the background I can see in the logs the "after delay" text and the onSomthingHappened() is called. After I reopen the app the snackbar will be shown and the "after showing snackbar" text is displayed in the logs.

My questions: why is the snackbar suspended? Should I bind the coroutine scope to the lifecycleOwner(onStart/onStop) in order to suspend the whole coroutine while the app is in the background?

    Thanks in advance,

    Gabor

Android Data Safety form and ANR reports

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 12:32 AM PST

Hello everyone, I have an empty app that does nothing at all. I gather no data. Google play lets me see the android versions that installed my app and eventual ANR reports. So Google IS gathering data. What should I put in the data security form?

Jetpack Compose does rely on xml themes.

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 01:38 AM PST

Jetpack Compose does rely on xml themes.

First, I'm new to compose and I might be doing something wrong. The title is kinda clickbait in case someone gets into the same situation like me yesterday. I couldn't figure it out for quite a while, because I didn't see it documented anywhere. Not sure if it's a bug or intended, but I'll describe what I did and what happened as best as I can.

tl;dr use daynight theme in xml.

I started with Jetpack Compose basics codelab on latest Android Studio Bumblebee patch 2. I intentionally did not download the started project, but instead started from scratch by creating my own Empty compose project/activity.

Everything went really well, until I got to part 12.

The problem I encountered was that my dark mode preview had white background.

I thought it might be a preview bug, so I ran the app, but it was the same. Anyway, I completed the codelab, downloaded the finished code, literally copy pasted it into my project and the background was still white. So the problem isn't with the kt files, I thought.

Decided to start again on empty compose activity (new project). I did few changes to the Greeting fun and the Preview annotations, here are all the changes and the result side by side:

    1

As you can see, the background on dark mode is still white.

Maybe adding background = Color.DarkGray in DarkColorPalette will help? No it doesn't change anything.

So what's the solution I've found and why I metioned xml in title?

Well turns out you just need to change your xml parent theme

    from android:Theme.Material.Light.NoActionBar

to any DayNight theme like Theme.MaterialComponents.DayNight.NoActionBar or Theme.Material3.DayNight.NoActionBar

Also don't forget to add the dependency in build.gradle

    implementation "com.google.android.material:material:<version>"

    Result:

    2

But what if you want to change this background color?

    Seems like adding <item name="android:background">@color/<your_color></item>

in xml theme will indeed change the color, but unfortunately for both previews. If someone knows how to make them independed, it'd be amazing to share in the comments. I guess if you add xml theme for night it might work, but I'm too lazy to try now.

Random error out of nowhere: Missing APKs for [SCREEN_DENSITY, ABI] dimensions in the module 'base' for the provided device.

Hi, out of nowhere I can no longer start my app in release mode on a tablet emulator (Pixel C).

Did anyone ever faced this problem?

For reference, I have those in my gradle

    ndk {
    abiFilters 'armeabi', 'armeabi-v7a', 'arm64-v8a', 'x86', 'x86_64'
    }

    Thanks in advance!

Which encryption algorithm does Samsung use for pattern lock?

    Posted: 25 Feb 2022 12:15 AM PST

My tablet died and I encrypted the SD card with a pattern lock. I still know that pattern and can translate ist to digets, but I don't know which encryption algorithm Samsung uses. I need to know which algorithm they use so that I can hash the pattern

Is it easier to gain an audience by making a mobile app, or a web app?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 11:59 PM PST

I've only made web apps so far. I suspect that getting your app in the play store or app store gives it more exposure than just making a website. Does anyone here have experience with moving apps from web to mobile, and if so, what was the result in terms of engagement and/or profits?

Cannot power off emulator with system image 30.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 05:56 PM PST

Does anyone else have a problem where running an avd created with android-30 image breaks the emulator power button?

When I run an android 28 emulator, I can power of the emulator properly. When I run an android-30 avd in the emulator, the power button does jack squat.

I am developing on Linux fyi.

Was the Twitter app hacked? App suddenly updated, changed icon caption, then on opening app flashed a full-screen tweet of Newsmax propaganda screenshot included

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 07:20 PM PST

    here's the screenshot

I saw a notification my Twitter app was updating. Which I found odd. But brushed off.

From the app screen, I saw that the "Twitter" caption has been replaced by the word "search". Super weird.

I was like "hm. Is Twitter a search engine suddenly??" So I clicked the icon. Upon opening the app, I got a Newsmax/Trump tweet, full-screened, with pro-russia propaganda. Especially weird since I blocked BOTH of those (and related)accounts waaay back in 2020 when they called COVID a hoax.

Is Twitter compromised? My other phones Twitter icon is just fine, no splash screen on opening the app. (I opened the phone and disconnected the battery in my UNCOMPROMISED phone, just in case).

Should I factory reset this bitch? Or toss the phone and get a fresh phone? I'm in the USA, not Ukraine or eastern europe.

Edit: it's malware. Not sure how it got there. Factory resetting the phone and changing passwords to everything.

    Would this even be possible?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 09:52 PM PST

Me and some school friends are sort of abusing Samsung Tv Plus to watch Deal or No Deal while in class on the schools network. We have been using ScreenStream from my Samsung Note 10 to mirror my phone (playing the show) over http so that me and my friends can watch through a web browser.

My Question is, is it possible to make it so that the phone just casts the show over http and not mirrored so i could still access my phone while playing? Or make a sort of second screen and the app will only mirror that one and the other is usable for anything else?

The main goal that I want to get at is the ability to still use my phone while streaming to friends the show.

Samsung Tv plus has a cast feature, could you potentially cast to yourself and loopback and send the received cast into http out?

Also if this isn't appropriate for this subreddit I'm sorry, I just think this place might have the people that might know a thing or two about casting or mirroring from an Android device. Or just be weirded out that this kid has a very particular problem that no one would know about.
