It's unbelievable that the MIUI 12.5 china version is 100 times better than the global one

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:36 PM PST

Since updating to the 12.5 version of the global rom, I've struggled to do the most menial tasks. It got to the point where apps would crash and I couldn't update my phone (Redmi note 8 pro). After messing around for half a day, I decided to try out the Chinese 12.5 MIUI and I can't believe how different it is from the global one. There are so many cool features that are missing! It's honestly unbelievable.

Xiaomi Mix 4, Sim card stops working after making a call.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 08:08 PM PST

    Info:

    • Phone - Xiaomi Mix 4
    • Location - USA
    • Cellular Provider: T-Mobile
    • ROM - Stock China ROM
    • Problem - When calling, it disables/turns off the SIM card.

I just bought the Mix 4 around two weeks ago and just put in a new SIM card that I just got today. The SIM card was already tested to be working fine on my Vivo NEX S. Calls, text and data all work fine with the Vivo NEX S. When in my Mix 4, it works fine when it comes to data and texting. But when I try to call, the SIM card just stops working. The Mix 4 is able to detect it, but it's unusable until I put that SIM card inside my Vivo NEX S and then putting it back in the Mix 4. When attempting to call with the Mix 4, when the call goes through, the SIM just turns off or is disabled. But the call will go through and I will be able to talk to the recipient for a couple seconds before it stops due to lack of data/loss connection.

I also have a working Verizon sim card and the exact same thing happens. I've also taken a look at the APN and everything looks fine.

I am considering unlocking the bootloader and then switching to the xiaomi.eu ROM and seeing if it fixes anything. Currently I just started to unlock the bootloader, still 7 days left from the time this post was posted.

Xiaomi Mi 11i VS Xiaomi Mi 11T VS Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 11:50 AM PST

I've been reading this subreddit and there are a lot of people complaining about bugs, software, battery, something about bloating, etc. Keeping in mind that I would buy it in the Canary Islands, Spain, which would be the best pricevsvalue phone?

    Unofficial Bootloaders: are they trustworthy?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 06:35 PM PST

There are some unofficial bootloaders on unlock guide sites that tell you don't need to wait that way, nor give your data to China gov for it. There is still the doubt if anyone here has managed to do it sucessfully using them, since there are no reports at all from people using them. Has anyone tried it? Are they trustworthy? Thanks in advance.

Help me choose between Poco F3 and Xiaomi 11T

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 07:28 PM PST

It's almost December and I want to get myself a new phone. My budget is RM 1900 Malaysia ($450).

256GB storage is important to me. Based on that the F3 is well priced because the 11T is slightly over my budget. I would prefer the better camera quality but I would be happy with either phone's camera.

However my main issue here is the long term software support on the Poco F3. Since Poco is a sub brand of Xiaomi, I'm afraid Xiaomi 11T may get more attention and priority over the Poco F3 when it comes to OS updates.

Is the Poco F3 a good purchase for me or should I save up a little more and get the Xiaomi 11T instead?

Got my Redmi Note 10 Pro yesterday, i'm tired of the ads. Should I get another ROM?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 06:41 PM PST

Title. I was very hyped until I used it a couple minutes and started getting annoying ads. I knew beforehand it would have them, but I didn't think it was this bad.

Proceeded to disable ads on every app and turning off msa, still I think MIUI its pretty lame for that and for some little bugs here and there.

Honest question, should I think about getting another ROM? Like Xiaomi.eu or Pixel Experience.

Setting up a new mi 11 lite 5g

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:37 AM PST

Hello guys. Today i'm going to pick up my new phone: Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite 5G for 234 euros. Not the NE version, it was 130 euros more expensive and not a clear advantage over the normal 11 lite 5g.

It took a loooot of my time digging through the specs and reviews of all the various models and versions to make a good decision. (I also considered poco x3 pro, poco m3, redmi note 10s, note 10 5G, note 10 pro..). Pretty strange to have so much models in the same price range (currently these are all 170-260 euros).

Anyway: do you guys have any tips to setup the 11 lite 5g.? I understand opting out of advertisement settings to prevent popup adds. And I have read about a tool to remove the xiaomi bloatware without unlocking root? Anyone with experience on this, is it necessary?

    Does unlocking bootloader affect performance?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 04:39 PM PST

Like Samsung phones break their camera if you unlock their bootloaders, and I wanted to know if it's safe to do on all Xiaomi models, or some of them has limited features. I want to unlock it but I don't want to lose functionality at all, are Xiaomi phones totally safe to unlock? Thanks in advance.

    Ghost touch issues

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:58 PM PST

    Hello All,

I've had the Poco F1 and Poco X3 Pro and have had the unfortunate luck in experience touch screen issues on both. Is there any phone that doesn't have issues like this? Does the Redmi Note 10 Pro have issues? How about the Poco F3? It's honestly sad that this is happening because these types of issues are what I fled from LG to begin with (Albeit LG had a worse problem since it was bootloop/Deadboot issues).

    Earbuds Basic 2 TWS beeping

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:57 PM PST

Hi, sometimes my left earbud is beeping when I using it. Right one doesn't beep. I don't know why it's beeping, so I decided to ask it here. It beeps like this:

    dee raa dee raa dee

Dee = bold beep, raa = fine beep It beeps fastly with this queue. And it beeps every 3 minutes, not randomly. It has %50 battery now, so there's no problem on battery. What is this beep means?

Xiaomi Pad 5's touch and audio latency is a joke.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:56 PM PST

TL:DR Latency is too damn high for a 120Hz device (proven scientifically)

    The Device

I have got the Xiaomi Pad 5 and it is a brilliant device.
The Dolby Atmos sound actually works, the screen is prety much as good as IPS gets, the 120Hz is smooth, and the device is pretty fast and snappy.

    However.
As a 120Hz device I have expected more...
The touch latency is sometimes even higher than an iPhone 8.
It is much smoother but the latency is higher.

    Audio Latency

It is most prevalent in audio, I have measured a minimum of 62ms touch to audio latency while the iPhone 8 got 37ms (same as the iPad 3 from 2012 which gets ~36 ms as well).

How I measured it? I opened up Audacity on my PC, tapped the iPhone screen on a drum in garage band and measured the difference between my tap and the sound from the device. I did the same on the Xiaomi Pad 5 using G-Stomper on lowest latency possible (3ms internal latency on OpenSL) and on other apps and measured 60-70ms still better than my Oneplus 6's 85ms but it is still bad.

    Touch To Photon:

Scrolling is smoother, the device is fast, however the content sticks just a tiny bit better to the finger on the iPhone 8.

They both sport a roughly 60-70ms touch to photon latency (28-34 frames in 480fps slowmo) with a tolerance of 2ms give or take.

Scrolling: 34 slowmo frames for the Mi Pad 5 ~70ms ,33-34 frames on the iPhone 8 68-70ms.

Tapping the settings icon (touch to start of fade): 30 frames for the iPhone 8(62ms), 28 for the pad 5 (58ms), (BONUS) 38 frames for the iPad 3(2012) 79ms.

    Conclusion

Given that there should be 240Hz sampling rate on the Xiaomi Pad 5 and that the screen is 120Hz, I'd have expected way better latency, however it is sometimes really bad, this is probably due to drivers and OS induced latency (hence the tapping is faster than scrolling behaviour).

Please notice that the Touch to Audio performance is double the touch to photon on iOS. I have no idea how Apple achieved this I think audio is decoupled from the OS frame rate.

ps: The iPad pro which also has 120Hz 240Hz sample rate gets less than 20ms touch latency.

    Debloat question (POCO F3)

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:46 PM PST

I want to debloat my POCO F3 but I have some questions related to some of the apps I'm thinking of disabling.

    1. The apps ShareMe and Mi Share are different, right? But is their function the same? Is it safe to disable them?
    2. What's the real use of the app SoterService? I can't find a clear answer when I google it.

    Upgrading or waiting

    Posted: 27 Nov 2021 03:14 PM PST

I have Redmi note 8 pro and was thinking of upgrading to Redmi note 11 pro when it comes to Europe, but now I cracked the screen and I don't know how long it will work for, especially as it seems to be warmer than usual while charging.

Now I'm thinking of buying the 11t as it barely fits my budget, but reading the reviews and browsing this subreddit I'm not so sure that's the right decision as there seem to be a lot of troubles with the phone.

Is it safe and worth to wait for the rn 11 pro or should i just buy the 11t and hope for the best and how much better is the 11t for around 200€ exstra compared to the expected price of the rn 11 pro? And how is the xiaomi 11 lite 5g ne compared to those two?
