    Laptop Fan Issue

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:53 PM PDT

Hello everyone, I have a Dell Inspiron 15 3576, and it did some helicopter-ish fan noises last week. Took it to a technician, he told me the fan was working pretty well, but there was a ton of dust everywhere(he did a thorough cleanup and updated all drivers).

That was last week. Today i heard the same helicopter noises from the fan as last time.

My question is this: because there is a dedicated gpu as well (radeon 520) could it be the gpu's fan that has the issue?? or is it the same fan for gpu and cpu?? (in which case, the fan is broken i guess)

I also have the laptop for abt 3 years, and it started having this issue for abt a month now.

    thanks for all the help

Hello, I have an Acer laptop and I have a screen connected to it using HDMI now I'm planning to buy 1 extra screen but my laptop does have 1 HDMI port so is it possible to connect 2 screens with some kind of HDMI splitter or something? or does this show the same thing on the screen not as 2 separate screens?

Should I get the HP Envy x360 (ryzen 5 model and 8gb of ram) for university next year?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:36 PM PDT

Hi guys, today I've have been looking at laptops for university and found what I think is a pretty good deal. The 2020 model of the HP Envy x360 is on sale for £630 and was wondering if this would be good enough for me as a student and if there is anything else I should look into if my maximum budget is around £900. I'm doing a bioengineering course so I might need some more power, but from what I've read the Envy should be enough.

    Thanks!

Super Slooooooow MSI laptop… can anyone help?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:11 PM PDT

Hi folks. Wonder if anyone could help me here. My fiancé has an MSI laptop with, old-ish but OK specs. But the thing lags even just running a browser and I can't figure out why. All of the parts seem reasonable enough to browse the internet certainly. Especially since once she's in a game she's often able to play without fuss (the sims 4, civ VI, Dragon Age: Inquisiton mostly) why is this thing so laggy?

    Specs are Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8300 CPU @ 2.30GHZ installed RAM: 8GB Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 OS: Windows 10 62bit

I have tried literally everything I can think of. I've factory reseted it, disk clean up, de-frag, driver update. Everything I can think of to get the damn thing working as well as it should on paper but it runs like a complete POS. Can anyone help me?

Looking for an ideal laptop to suit these three needs : Great display, Great Speed/Memory & Performance.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 01:11 PM PDT

I would like to purchase a laptop for $1500 or less. I would like a minimum of 8 GB of ram with the likeliness of being upgradeable. I would like a great display of 1080p or higher wit a minimum of 300 nits (400 ideal). A minimum of 256 GB SSD (upgradeable) or 500 GB HDD. Ideal weight would be 3-5 lbs. Graphics card is not required but if I'm gonna pay up to $1500, I'll welcome it as I will be trying some entry level gaming. I would prefer it to be a 2021 model but if not then a 2020 model. I would like the screen size to be 13-15" with the 14" being the ideal size. Can be Intel or AMD. I already have dongles so USB C laptops won't be an issue. I'd also be willing to go little above the aforementioned budget. Touchscreen is also optional.

So far one of the options that I've seen that is close to what I want is the HP Envy 14" w/ Nvidia GTX 1650.Another that I've been looking at is Asus ROG Zephyrus 14" w/ AMD & Nvidia Graphics. I also like the Dell XPS line but they prove to be somewhat expensive and take long to ship.

I know I listed three laptops already but I would just like to look at a some more options before my final decision/purchase.

Going to collage and need a good laptop

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:58 PM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

      3000 riyals in Saudi Arabia

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

      No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I would prefer more performance but still have a good build quality and battery life

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

It's not that important but not too crazy

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

      N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I'm using it for college work but u don't mind if it could run games

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

I will use the laptop for collage so I don't care if it could run games so any fps is accepted

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Just a good overall laptop that lasts long

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

If you're going to list a laptop that can run games can you list another laptop that doesn't have a gpu so I could compare both

Was buying this laptop a mistake?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:56 PM PDT

I just ordered the HP Pavillion x360 14" for less than $800. It has 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD. I thought it was a solid deal but now I've heard some things on how it's not a great laptop? Any thoughts? I only need this laptop to last me 4 years through premed.

What is the significance the GHz?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:29 AM PDT

I'm a not so tech savvy guy looking to buy my first laptop for college and I've been looking at the processor and RAM etc and I've noticed that in the processor section it says like a speed of 2.8 or 4 or some other figure in Giga Hertz. Even the same processors have different speeds like this? Does this figure matter? Is it actually this figure that matters in the end if I'm looking to do computational stuff like Matlab or Mathematica? Thanks so much in advance.

    Laptop Advice

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:27 AM PDT

Hi there! In a few months I have to leave for college and have been browsing laptops that will hopefully meet my educational/personal requirements. Not a huge gamer, but I am interested.

I've come across two gaming laptops and needed advice.

    1. Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3 Specs:

    16GB ram

    512 GB SSD

    Ryzen 7 4800H

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650

    1. ASUS TUF Dash F-15 FX516PE Specs:

    8GB Ram

    512GB SSD

    Core i5-11300H

    NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050Ti

It might be obvious that ASUS is the better option here, two things concerns me: 1. Core i5 compared to Ryzen's 7 series is only a quad core while the latter is 8 core. How will/much it affect engineering programmes or your occasional gameplay?

    1. ASUS comes with only 8GB of ram, I could upgrade it in the future but I honestly don't see my self doing that. Is 8GB good enough or am I being a snob about it?

Also, any recommendations on Ryzen laptops with similar specs to ASUS TUF DASH F-15

Laptop Recommendations for a College Student

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 11:57 AM PDT

I'm about to start my freshman year and plan to be a computer science major. I'm looking for a new laptop but don't know much about them. I'm looking for something that will reliably last me at least my 4 years of college, and can handle schoolwork including programming and maybe a bit of pretty light gaming. I'm usually a windows guy but I've heard Mac can be good for these purposes so would maybe consider it. Any recommendations?

    Download issues?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 11:38 AM PDT

I'm trying to download genshin impact on my laptop and it works but to an extent. It downloads extremely slow (9 hours minimum for 21gb) and when it does eventually reach about 100 it comes up with an error and then resets itself to 20. Ive done as much as I can really and deleted my ad blocker. My laptop fits the minimum requirements for it too.

Best hard drive upgrade for Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2021 11:25 AM PDT

I am looking to upgrade the storage on my laptop to 1TB in storage. I don't know much about computers, but from what I understand different models of hard drives are faster or just generally better. Does anyone have any recommendations for an upgrade to the Lenovo Ideapad Flex 5?

    "Crucial - P2 1TB Internal PCIe Gen 3 x4 Solid State Drive M.2"

"SAMSUNG (MZ-V7S1T0B/AM) 970 EVO Plus SSD 1TB - M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology "

These are the ones I am looking at right now. I don't know the real difference between them. Is the Samsung one worth the higher price? Or is it just a brand name thing.
