Looking for new laptop that can play games without looking like a rocketship Posted: 03 Jul 2021 07:27 PM PDT TL;DR: Professional-looking laptop that can play basic PC games. I just graduated college and my trusty Lenovo Yoga 900 is really struggling to do basic tasks now. I'm looking to buy a new laptop to use long-term for everyday and professional activities (document editing, web browsing, streaming, etc.). However, I also like to play video games on console, and am hoping to be able to play some games on this laptop without too much overheating/lag. Nothing too graphics-intense, I mostly like single-player games with narrative that I can't normally get on console. Thanks in advance for advice! LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
- Are you open to refurbs/used?
- Not my first choice but sure.
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
- (Highest to lowest) Performance, battery life, build quality, form factor
- How important is weight and thinness to you?
- Looking for something I can take around with me if ever travel or go to a coffee shop.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
- This would be my first gaming computer so I'm not too sure about the settings I would be looking for. That being said I do enjoy RPG and narrative single player games (Witcher 3, Last of Us, Skyrim, etc.). I don't need it to look perfect, but want to avoid lag.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
- None specifically. This would be a long-term purchase so I'd like it to be sturdy and reliable, and for the battery life to maintain itself for a while.
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
- Sorry this is a bit vague, I just want a laptop I can be seen with that can also play a few games.

Good Gaming Laptop with good battery life but slick & portable. (budget is 3000$ CAD or under) Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:30 PM PDT Hi guys, So I'm going into my 2nd year of university this fall and will be commuting on the train an hour and 20 min there and back mon-fri. I will be taking distance-ed courses while commuting so good battery life on a laptop would be good. I honestly did like the Alienware M15 R4 (1tb, which came to about 2400 CAD i think). BUT, it seems that the battery life on it is very poor. Budget is not an issue, I want to invest good $$$ on a laptop that can be used for school and be good for gaming as well, I do prefer something more sleek and not clunky (looking into 15-inch laptops). I would rather stay under 3000$ CAD though. Does anyone have any leads on laptops that match what I am looking for, or something similar? Ket me know, thanks, guys :) budget: 3000 CAD new only weight lighter/thinner preferred will be used for gaming and school work (dead by daylight , league, fortnite, skyrim) 15 inch preferred edit: i meant sleek** lol submitted by /u/alishka1001 [link] [comments] |

750-960 euros - Are you open to refurbs/used?
no - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
I am looking for a gaming laptop with performance good enough to play new games at high or better. would prefer it to have a long battery life in daily use too - How important is weight and thinness to you?
As long as it does not weigh more than 3-4 kilograms i am ok with it. thinnes does not really matter but it would be better if it were to fit in my schoolbag - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
N/A but it bigger=better - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
gaming and 3d modelling on blender. I will especially play AAA games that were published in the last 3 years - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Cyberpunk2077 at high/ultra settings and at least 60 fps and ı casually play LoL too(would prefer it to be 90+ fps at ultra) - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
a good keyboard would be good but i am okay with it as long as it's not horrible to use and of course it is always better if it does not heat too much - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Looking for a laptop around £500~ that is powerful enough to handle large database files Posted: 04 Jul 2021 04:54 AM PDT Hello, I'm looking for a laptop for my housemate for around £500, he works with a lot of large database files and is basically looking for a laptop that'll handle them well. So basically a decent processor / RAM, but no gaming so the GPU is unimportant. Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Best choices for me around or under $2000? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 05:14 PM PDT I'm going back to school soon and my last laptop from 2013 or so is no longer usable and neither is any Chromebook. I'm going to need a new one. - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Around $2000 USD, just in case it's worth going a little over.
- Are you open to refurbs/used?Yes
- How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance > build quality > battery life > form factor
- How important is weight and thinness to you? Preferred if I can realistically carry it to school often without a problem, but I wouldn't sacrifice much for it.
- Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
- Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Just gaming and general use, maybe simulation (more info below)
- If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I'd like a laptop that could play Destiny 2 at 720p 30fps minimum and run emulators smoothly.
- Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? N/A
- Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I watch a lot of live streams, but I've always had problems with Twitch that no one else seems to have. Between the old worn-down laptop I had before and the Chromebook I use now, I never had a smooth time watching Twitch. It doesn't run smoothly on PS4 or PS5 either but I think that's more of an app problem since it works fine on mobile. And since it works fine on mobile I doubt it's a network problem either. I'd also like to mention I plan to do computer science classes if that matters and physics classes pursuing astronomy, so I wouldn't be surprised if it would be beneficial to be able to use physics simulations.

Looking for a powerful but elegant laptop Posted: 03 Jul 2021 11:38 PM PDT TL;DR My current laptop can't handle 3d modeling and animation without either crashing or lagging up to a point that it's impossible to work with, so I'm looking for an update. I'll take the laptop to uni and maybe even work, so I don't want it to be big and bulky. Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 1500-2400$ Are you open to refurbs/used? No How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Ultrabook would be ideal (not too big definitely a plus for me), build quality, performance, battery life (all pretty important for me to be fair) How important is weight and thinness to you? Very, I'll be traveling a lot overseas with it, so transportability is a big one for me Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-15 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. 3d modeling/animation (Maya, Blender), Video/Photo editing (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Lightroom), a bit of gaming If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Valorant (~100fps), r6 at highs would be perfect Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality definitely, so it feels sturdy because it's a long term investment, a fingerprint would be cool but not a dealbreaker Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Programming + Graphic Design Laptop Posted: 04 Jul 2021 02:41 AM PDT So basically I am searching for a programming laptop that can also handle light graphic design. As a brand new student I will just be starting to learn to code and even though I understand I don't need a beast of a laptop for it I also will be spending 99% of my programming work on it and I need something that will last for at least 3 years. LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
~1500 € / ~ 10000 HRK - Are you open to refurbs/used?
No, due to warranty. - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
(Highest to lowest) Performance, battery life, build quality, form factor - How important is weight and thinness to you?
It is important because I will be taking it around often, but it doesn't need to be paper light nor thin. - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
Minimum 13 inches but I don't mind a little bigger. - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Cinema 4D and Adobe Photoshop are my main priority when it comes to the extra apps + whatever is needed for programming (VMs included). - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Good keyboard and solid build quality is key. Finger print reader / Windows Hello function is welcomed, and as many ports as possible (however, I am open to dongles). - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
As of now I'm looking at MacBook Air M1, Dell XPS 13, and maybe a Lenovo Thinkpad of sorts? I've never used a MacBook so I don't know how good they are at preforming my desired tasks. I like Dell but where I live they are a bit more expensive than needed and I don't know a whole lot about Lenovo, but I've heard they are good. Most of my programming work won't be based around Apple apps so I'm not looking at MacOS because of that compatibility but it seems as a nice bonus. submitted by /u/throwaway95791024 [link] [comments] |
(Australia) Looking for Windows laptop around 2000 AUD Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:47 PM PDT - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
Australia, 2000 AUD. Tbh I don't have a strict budget, willing to save up for a quality laptop - Are you open to refurbs/used?
No - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Good battery life, performance and build quality all equally important. Don't need a 2-in-1. I would like to start off with a solid 8-10 hours battery life so that when it wears down in a few years I'll still be getting a decent 5-6 hours. Also hope to use this laptop for 5 years (or more!). - How important is weight and thinness to you?
Need something portable and relatively light (probably around 1.3kg?) for uni and work. I use public transport a lot - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
13 or 14 inches. Prefer 16:10 or 3:2 screen ratio and matte screen. FHD is fine, I don't need 4K - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
Currently don't play games but interested in checking out some games - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
Interested in playing story driven games and horror rpg maker games. Also want to try Genshin Impact lol - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
Good colour accuracy, webcam above the screen, comfortable keyboard - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Main things I would be doing are web browsing, using Microsoft office, streaming youtube/netflix, some light gaming. Currently own a Dell XPS 15 which I know is a good laptop but I've had a bunch of issues with it (terrible battery life, the notorious nosecam, random crashes, and overall a bit slow in opening things). So I feel iffy about XPS and am looking for non-XPS recommendations. But still open to XPS if you can convince me haha submitted by /u/jiyun1004 [link] [comments] |

Is this a good laptop? Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:53 PM PDT Asus zenbook 14 (2021) It has 16gb DDR4 ram. I've heard zenbooks have good battery backup, hence why I'm choosing this over other laptops such as Dell XPS. I'm getting this for around the price of a macbook air (1200 usd). Is this a good, and if possible should I go for a ryzen variant? (With zen 2 architecture cpu, and AMD Radeon graphics) or should I go with this intel 11th gen with mx350 graphics card? Laptop under $500 Posted: 03 Jul 2021 10:40 PM PDT Budget: $500 (ideally under $300 knowing what I want it for). (US) 1000-1500$ laptop for Graphic work and light gaming Posted: 03 Jul 2021 06:38 PM PDT - Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
1000-1500 USD - Are you open to refurbs/used?
Yes - How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Great battery life and durable build quality are priority, with performance close behind. - How important is weight and thinness to you?
The more portable the better, so I'd prefer something under 5lbs - Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
13-16 inches - Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, and World of Warcraft (so both professional and light gaming use cases) - If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
World of Warcraft as well as various indie games - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
This system is going to be used in a warehouse environment, so something a bit more durable would be preferred, and a decent screen/keyboard would be a nice to have as well. - Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
I've been looking around and recently came across the Dell Insprin 16 Plus, with an i7-11800H and RTX 3050 for 1200, or RTX 3060 for 1400 after discount codes/taxes, and was wondering if this would be a good selection, or if anyone else had alternative choices. I'd also prefer not to have something in the gamer aesthetic, but rather something neutral and less flashy that can better fit into a school/work environment. submitted by /u/AngeredLotus [link] [comments] |
