Posted: 29 Jul 2021 09:25 PM PDT I'm starting to get paranoid and feel really anxious. I will try to explain the best that I can. I really need some kind of peace of mind that I'm not being hacked or spyed on. I'm using an old Andriod Galaxy S8 with Fb Messenger app downloaded. The past two days messages from my partner on my phone were opened before I opened them. For her it was saying I had read them instantly and she assumed I was sitting in the chat which I wasn't. As soon as she sends me messages, on my end it doesn't notify me and just shows them as being opened already. Emmedietely I checked if I was logged in anywhere else - I wasn't. I also have two factor authentication set up. I changed my password anyway, and it kept happening. I removed all authorised devices and it kept happening. I started talking about it in our chat and now its happening with other people too, but only randomly. Some times it doesn't happen but most of the time it does. Its random but seems to be happening as soon as we start chatting back and forth. I know there could be a glitch "delay" sometimes with read receipts etc but this is just too weird now to be so consistent. As far as I know, my device is NOT rooted. I checked. Its official software. Fb says no one is logged into my account, two factor authentication etc but my messages are being opened and marked as read as soon as I recieve them - but its not happening for a group chat for class. Or if it has, I haven't noticed. Yesterday I could hear my partner typing her message on my phone as if I was sitting in the chat box, but I was on the messenger app viewing all messages. I've deleted the app and installed it again. Seemed to fix for 10 mins then started happening again. Ive just turned off "chat head bubbles " also incase thats interfering somehow. I ran a virus scan and nothing. Can anyone please put my mind at ease I'm so confused and anxious. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
Does storage space affect performance? Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:47 AM PDT If storage space is almost full, does it slow down the performance of the phone (lagging, etc)? Or is it just a myth? [link] [comments] |
I need to completely disable Android firmware update downloads (Wifi and Mobile data) Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:25 PM PDT We have some tablets we use for field work, and in the past few weeks we racked up a bill of over $500 due to Samsung tablet firmware updates pushing our data usage over the limit. We needed to limit the data consumption, and here is what I did initially:
However, that does not stop the firmware update notification from coming up, and a few technicians mistakenly clicked on download which racked up the bills. In response, I made the following additional changes:
However, the firmeware notification still shows up, and still puts the driver in a position to mistakenly click on download when theyre on mobile data. Is there a way to disable this prompt, or even stop the tablets completely from being able to download firmware updates? We also use Google Advance Mobile Management, so if there's a way to control it with that let me know. [link] [comments] |
A possible fix to overheating and battery drain Posted: 29 Jul 2021 02:38 PM PDT Hey all! I have a Pixel 4a and had a severe issue with overheating and battery drain for as long as I can remember with this phone but now but has been much worse over the past few weeks(s) and I appear to have solved it and hope my post can help others facing similar issues. Background: I traveled to a hot beach location last week and had a huge problem with the phone overheating and turning off all the time, I did notice the problem before but it was much more noticable while traveling. My phone in general has been running around 38-42c in normal use for a while now doing simple things like reading and browsing in cool AC environments, not only running hot while in use but also struggling to cool down when idling. Everything I did from reading to messaging to watching videos to listening to music heated the phone to the point where it became hot to the touch after a few minutes, no matter what I did it overheated. Battery life struggled too, I was averaging around 3 hrs of SoT. During travel the phone basically didn't cool down at all during the whole day and I struggled to manage it since using it caused it to overheat and cooling it off in the bag or away from the sun still didn't cool it enough till when I needed it. Furthermore, when I went back to the hotel to charge it didn't cool down enough to fast charge and thus made the whole trip very tough to manage since I used it for a lot including navigation and work let alone taking pictures and videos of the trip. The phone limited features and turned off several times a day. Solution: When I got back to my country I started looking for solutions and noticed that Chrome used more battery than it should in the battery usage settings, it did that a few times before but wasn't apparent at the time as I downloaded other Chrome based browsers such as Edge and Brave and they didn't do better. However the thing is I don't use chrome that much, but it is responsible for displaying other apps through System WebView, so I decided to disable it, clear cache and data of the app and WebView and go for a non Chrome browser, I tried Opera mini but eventually settled with Duck Duck Go. This has completely transformed my phone, not only is the browser itself much much smoother, the whole phone is running much lighter. Even pushing it hard with streaming videos and loudest volume on loudspeaker had it running at max 38c, I'm now currently at 34c after streaming videos for 30 mins on the highest volume and browsing Reddit at the same time. And while battery life was bad before (3 hrs SoT over 100%), I'm now on about 2hrs SoT with 30% use. Even if it doesn't continue like this and I hit only 4 hrs, that's 30% better than before. It's not always apparent which app is causing the issues but Chrome is definitely doing something wrong and since it's so engrained in the Android system, it can cause a lot of the invisible issues that don't show up in the battery usage settings. I hope my post helps others like me who've been dealing with overheating and terrible battery life. And please feel free to discuss or ask any questions! [link] [comments] |
USB-C to HDMI output keeping audio on phone in certain apps Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:05 PM PDT I am outputting video/audio from my S10e via USB-C to HDMI cable. Most apps will output the audio fine through HDMI over to the TV (such as tested with Spotify). However any video conference apps such as Zoom or Google Meet seem to keep audio output on the phone and will not pass it through to the TV, only the video. I have no idea why and would like to solve this... Anyone happen to know why this is happening and how to fix it? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2021 06:52 PM PDT So I have just removed the simcard from my phone & the network vanishes instantly. Then I switched on & off Airplane Mode once & notice that beside the wifi sign in my notification bar, the sim signal sign also comes up & it goes up & down just like when I had my sim card in the phone. But when I try to call or send a sms, it doesn't pass through. My question is why am I getting the sim signal sign in my notification bar, although I don't have the simcard in the phone. Posted: 29 Jul 2021 09:52 PM PDT Whenever I try to set up a wallpaper, Android sometimes forces an orientation that I do not want. I've only ever seen it force landscape when I want portrait, but I imagine the opposite happens as well. I see this problem happen most often with Android tablets, but I've also encountered it before on phones. Is there a way for me to force a given orientation when this happens? I tried turning off Auto rotate, but it does nothing. Even though the rest of the device is in portrait, as soon as I get to the wallpaper setup, it springs to landscape. Can anyone help? Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:28 PM PDT I have the Google Drive and OneDrive apps installed. Whenever I try to open a PDF, I get this 'Open With' popup - https://imgur.com/a/OdIOEya I want to use Google Drive every time and skip this prompt, but unlike other protocols & file types, there's no option to select 'just once' or 'always'. I've seen support articles saying go to Settings > Apps > OneDrive > Open by Default and tapping 'Clear Defaults' - but that option is greyed out for OneDrive. I've also tried reinstalling OneDrive in the hope it would clear the message and remember the setting after, but it didn't make a difference. I'm running Android 11 on a Pixel 3. Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:20 PM PDT I'm trying to write some stories on docs on my phone, but it's impossible to I do a single line indent at the beginning of every paragraph like you can on word. Okay how can make it so samsung pay stops opening on it's own. Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:37 PM PDT It sometimes opens by its self at night and starts to vibrate. This is getting super annoying and it overheated my phone today. [link] [comments] |
In-game ad bypasses volume control Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:13 PM PDT For the past few days something weird and unsettling has happened. I've been playing some games with in-game ads that reward the player with game currencies or other things. When most ads play, I turn down the volume and there's no sound. However, one specific ad bypasses the volume control. And it's really loud! The only way I thought to reduce the sound volume is to plug in headphones. Does this ad hack the phone? It's just this one ad and the media volume is turned down to the max. Is there a way to make all ads, including that one, mute by default? Note: the mentioned ad is for a Sudoku game. Clock Icon stuck forever in upper right corner Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:00 PM PDT The clock icon seems to be stuck on my phone in the upper right corner. I've made sure no timer or alarms are set, I've tried closing the app, I've tried restarting the phone and shutting it down, I've tried clearing the clock/alarm app cache and storage. Can't figure out how to get rid of the clock icon that's stuck up there. May be some app using it I don't know about, but I'm not using any new apps, and this problem just started today. Thanks! Upgrading a Samsung Galaxy Tab E to Android 9? Posted: 29 Jul 2021 06:57 PM PDT Hello everyone, I'm not the most tech savvy so sorry if this comes off as obvious, but I recently got an Samsung Galaxy Tab E and it is currently on Android 7.1.1. While I was doing a bit of Googling and research, I saw that the latest update for it can be Android 9, but it states that it is up to date when I check for Software Updates. Did I read something wrong or is there something I'm missing? [link] [comments] |
Broken Samsung Galaxy J7 V Data Recovery Posted: 29 Jul 2021 06:09 PM PDT I want to try to get all my files off of this phone, all of a sudden it wont show anything except the samsung turning on screen and in the corner there's lots of words in red and blue... saying "Odin flash, no pit binary, mmc read failure" I can open it in download mode, but that does nothing. When I plug it into my computer it makes a noise like it recognizes it's a phone... but I can't open the dcim or anything on the phone. I tried dr. fone and similar programs but none of them support my model of phone, J7. Is there any software I can use to recover data from a broken Samsung Galaxy J7 V phone? How do I set up NextDNS on my Android phone? Posted: 29 Jul 2021 05:40 PM PDT I think I set it up under VPN in settings. It seems to work, but something doesn't quite seem right. I mean it has DNS in its name, not VPN, and I still get ads on Soundcloud (not through the browser though because of uBlock Origin). I tried setting it up under Private DNS. I don't think I did it right, though. It just disconnected me from internet access when I did that. [link] [comments] |
Bluetooth Headset Has Low Mic Volume in Poco X3 NFC Posted: 29 Jul 2021 05:00 PM PDT I previously used a Mi Bluetooth Headset on my Poco X3, but when I am in a call in Messenger and Discord, I get complaints that they can barely hear me. In consideration that the headset was the problem, I bought a NewBee LC-B41 which from what I have read has a decent mic volume. However, I still encountered the same issue and I think it's probably the device that is at fault here. When not using a headset or using a wired headset, my microphone works just fine. I also tested the bluetooth mic using the Recorder app and it seems the ambient noises are much louder than my voice even if I position the mic close to my mouth. Any tips on how to solve this? I already tried clearing the cache of the Bluetooth app but no dice. Thank you very much. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 29 Jul 2021 12:33 PM PDT Tried clearing cache but this does not solve the issue. I believe Google Play actually makes duplicates without clearing them. The same happens when you make a system update, it keeps stacking backups and hogs more and more space until you have nothing left and you need to do a factory reset. Problem is solved until you run updates of apps (or firmware) again. I have disabled my phone's update which helped a lot. Now how to I prevent the app store from eating up my phone storage after each apps update? NB: this is a problem that happens on my Samsung a40 only. And it occurs again and again after factory resets, which I am forced to do after every 3-4 months because I'm running out if space without adding news apps, and while still clearing cache every week. My note 10+ does not have this problem and does release the memory space it has used right after updates finish. [link] [comments] |

Samsung A12 not charging unless thrown on floow. Posted: 29 Jul 2021 02:59 PM PDT I bought a Samsung A12 from amazon about 2 months ago and starting about a month ago, the phone didn't charge. Like I plugged it in and no message came up and it didn't charge. I then cleaned it and restarted the phone so many times and it started charging again. I thought that would be the end of it but no it keeps on happening, like 4 times in the space of 1 month. The only solution to make it charge is by throwing it hard on the floor. But today it wasn't charging so I threw it on the floor but it took like 5 hard throws on the floor for it to charge. I don't know why it sometimes doesn't charge and why throwing it on the floor helps. Can I take it to a phone shop and get something fixed or should I try to sell it. Any suggestions?
