3 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 184) Posted: 30 Jul 2021 04:44 AM PDT Welcome back, my friends, to a great episode of my weekly mobile gaming recommendations based on the games I played last week. Enjoy :) Support these posts (and YouTube content + development of MiniReview) on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/NimbleThor <3 This episode includes a level-based Archero alternative, a new indie game that finally delivers on all those fake mobile game ads we've all seen a thousand times, and a small card battler set in the ATOM RPG universe. New to these posts? Check out the first one from 184 weeks ago here. The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is. Let's get to the games:The Actual Game Rescue [Game Size: 148 MB] (free)Genre: Puzzle / Physics-based / Indie - Offline Playable Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Some tl;dr review: The Actual Game Rescue is an indie puzzle game that finally delivers on the "pull the pin" puzzle gameplay promised by so many of the fake mobile game ads from big game publishers. The core gameplay has us pull pins and rotate levers to get any gold found in the map to our hero and maneuver lava and water around the map to deal with any enemies. The puzzles and levels are surprisingly challenging and new mechanics that both require logical thinking and great timing are introduced as we progress. Although there are currently only 57 levels in the game, there are 120+ levels planned for later in 2021, according to the developer. Although the art-style is average and the UI mediocre, the fun physics-based gameplay is almost guaranteed to provide a great experience for puzzle fans. The Actual Game Rescue monetizes through incentivized ads and a single $3.99 iAP for power-ups that make completing a level slightly easier. There are no forced ads, and the iAP essentially turns the game into a premium experience, which means the monetization is very relaxed. Google Play: Here MiniReview link: Here Bombagun [Total Game Size: 105 MB] (free)Genre: Card / Strategy / Indie - Offline + Online Playable Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Some tl;dr review: Bombagun is a small single and multiplayer strategy card battler where everyone fights using the same deck and there's no pay-to-win or cards to collect. It's set in the same post-apocalyptic universe as the indie developer's other game, ATOM RPG. We start by drawing six random cards from our deck, which we can then place on the board if we have enough resources. Some cards only cost action points, of which we gain one extra on every turn, while most attack cards also require food and house resources gained from playing defensive cards. The first player to deplete all the opponent's health wins. These resources add a new twist to the typical card game gameplay, and the fun lies in strategically deciding between going on the offense to deal damage to the opponent and deplete some of their resources, or play defensively to build up our own resources so we can perform stronger attacks in the future. The game features both real-time multiplayer and singleplayer AI matches. Unfortunately, however, there are no difficulty settings for the singleplayer-mode, and not enough players for reliable multiplayer matchmaking. Bombagun is completely free, with no iAPs or advertisements. It's a promising game that could be great if it had enough players, but it can still be casually enjoyed for its singleplayer or as a truly skill-based game to play versus friends. Google Play: Here MiniReview link: Here Rogue Land [Game Size: 254 MB] (free)Genre: Archer-like / Action / RPG - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Rogue Land is a large Archero-inspired fast-paced action RPG with level-based progression and light bullet-hell mechanics. Our objective is to survive and navigate our way through level-based dungeons full of unique enemies and bosses with our character and weapon of choice. Just like in Archero, our character only attacks when we don't move, which means we need to carefully dodge the many incoming attacks while constantly looking for opportunities to stand still for a few seconds. Defeating enemies provides temporary XP and every time we level up, we get to pick between three upgrades that make us stronger. We also gain permanent XP and gold when completing a dungeon, which lets us level up heroes and items to unlock new power-ups that are added to the pool of potential upgrades we get to pick from when leveling up inside a dungeon. Apart from the main dungeons, the game features occasional side-quests and challenging events that change every few days. These game modes may enforce specific rules, like which weapon types we can use, which helps freshen up the otherwise somewhat repetitive gameplay. Rogue Land monetizes through a few incentivized ads and then iAPs for items that let us pay-to-progress-faster. There is also an energy system that limits our play-sessions length, but although the game eventually gets rather grindy, there seems to be no hard pay-walls. Archero fans are likely to enjoy Rogue Land because it essentially feels like an expanded version of Archero with more content but the same core fun gameplay loop. It's a game best played in bursts of 20-30 minutes, however, as the energy system then won't limit you. What is the Closest game to Path of Exile on Android? Posted: 30 Jul 2021 01:30 PM PDT I've tried Eternium and Anima and both have some elements that work for me, but don't quite hit the spot. Signed up for Diablo Immortal, but still waiting there. What game would do it for me? [link] [comments]

Posted: 30 Jul 2021 07:29 AM PDT I absolutely love how well made Wild Rift is but I really don't want to play 30min matches on my phone. Are there any alternatives? I know Pokémon Unite comes in September and it has 10min matches which is fantastic but I'd love to know if there are any other games out there. [link] [comments]
Phoenix Games Interview: Klaas Kersting explains the risks and rewards of the F2P model Posted: 30 Jul 2021 11:26 AM PDT I recently had the chance to interact with Klaas Kersting, the Founder and CEO of Phoenix Games, and it turned to be an amazing experience. Klaas discussed the F2P model, misleading ads, season pass system and many things regarding the game monetizations. It was more than just a regular interaction I do with the industry veterans. Someone who was once a mad fan of Throne Wars (by Flaregames) with thousands of hours, made friends over this beautiful game who are still in touch with, talking with the founder and knowing the reason for the closure (that we could never get to know, even in the official forum) was actually a very fulfilling experience. You are curious to know all these from an industry perspective, feel free to check out the complete interview [link] [comments]
Need help setting up a gamepad Posted: 30 Jul 2021 05:15 PM PDT Hi, I bought a Gamesir T1S controller for my tello drone(not tested if that works yet), and I'd like to play some games on it. I already tested the controller via USB on my PC, and it worked in GTA:SA. But on my Motorola phone it just won't work, the gamesir world app connects it and detects buttons and moving the sticks, but I tried it with Asphalt 9(the app said it works with controllers) and nothing. The octopus app doesn't even see the controller at all, so I can't set up controls by hand. What am I missing? [link] [comments]

Any good and fun multiplayer games (5 minutes max matches)? Posted: 30 Jul 2021 12:43 PM PDT Looking for something to play during a break quickly. Can be very competitive or just light fun. Not into card games, but open to pretty much anything else. Paid or free, both fine. If it's free I'd rather not be drown in multiple ads every second. [link] [comments]
