Android has improved so much since I last used it. Posted: 30 Jul 2021 03:27 PM PDT I switched to iPhone in 2016 due to the frustration with Android OEMs and their greedy tactics - they would flood the market with 7689 different models, charging you nearly iPhone money but could never deliver on the a polished OS nor would they bother to give you updates past 1 year, rendering your $500 device nearly useless a mere 12 months later. In that time, I found ways to make iOS work for me, although it was still annoying since Apple insists on making even the simplest tasks ridiculously difficult. The performance and polish of iOS was exponentially better and remained that way for 5 years after purchase of device so I stuck with it. However, I am now in need of an upgrade and have already given my old iPhone to my mother. In the interim, I bought a Nokia 5.4 which was heavily discounted at $150. It was a steal and I was curious about Android as I sorely miss a proper file system. Now, it isn't the greatest phone in terms of specs... but holy crap does it work well! Android One with Android 10 is nothing like what I remember Android was. The response, the performance, the animations, the UI design are all on par with iOS now. In fact, the animations and opening times are smoother and quicker in some cases. There are minor glitches and faults here and there, but that would be nitpicking. I am still sceptical though as I have been burned by Android many times before, so I am throwing everything I have at it in an attempt to make it crash and burn but to my surprise, it eats everything up. Is Android "fixed" now? Do they last past 2 years now? Is it time to switch back? I am going to put my upgrade on hold until I figure this out. NB : Android One needs to be an option on more phones. I hope it doesn't get canned. [link] [comments] | ||
