Posted: 03 May 2021 09:10 PM PDT For example I can do and those tabs will autocomplete to 'stop' and cups.service. But when I do nothing happens. I've googled but I guess I'm googling the wrong things. Is there a name for this and how do I fix it? [link] [comments] |

Trouble after update, btrfs snapshot restore took all of my free space Posted: 04 May 2021 10:43 AM PDT I'm using Arco Linux(Arch but easier to use) with 5.11.15-arch1-2. I am using luks on btrfs with the following subvolumes:@ , @ home. Marked /dev/sda5. I backed up with the snapshots only @ After an absolutely horrible update everything broke, before I rebooted SDDM crashed and sent me an error message, then the display started acting up, then it wouldn't boot. Long story short everything went to shit. However I had a snapshot from some time ago. From the tty I restored it and now my storage is completely full for no reason. I know that btrfs is a copy on write filesystem, and anomalies like these are bound to happen, but I can't find a reliable way to fix the mess that I am in. I've found somewhere that btrfs has a "balance" function, and I tried running this: "sudo btrfs balance status -v /" but I get "No balance found on '/'". Also, this is supposed to rewrite all the data on my disk, and I'm on an SSD, and I've allocated a pretty big amount of space to this "partition". The ssd is pretty old and it doesn't have that many cycles in it anymore. Is there a way to avoid this perhaps? Perhaps I've missed something obvious. The output of "btrfs fi df /" Maybe it will help. Data, single: total=72.21GiB, used=72.20GiB System, single: total=4.00MiB, used=16.00KiB Metadata, single: total=2.01GiB, used=1.58GiB GlobalReserve, single: total=145.52MiB, used=0.00B Even though i'M uSiNG aRCh, I'm a complete moron. If you can, please lend a hand. [link] [comments] |

How would i turn this into a shutdown script and where would i put it? Fedora 34 Posted: 04 May 2021 12:46 PM PDT
This fixes the samsung notebook 9 and pro series keyboard backlight, but sometimes (coming from suspend i suspect) it fails to turn back on. It needs to run at shutdown because the changes require a restart [link] [comments] |

Posted: 04 May 2021 12:12 PM PDT The longer I frequent these subreddits the more I see people having issues with the newest Nvidia release. It kind of makes me wonder why I should bother. To add to the confusion it can be tricky reading the release notes to these drivers as a beginner, so I'm not always sure when the update is relevant to me. It just seems like a lot of hassle I don't need to bother with. But at some point I would need to update, right? So the question then becomes should I update and if so when? [link] [comments] |

I want to connect to my Linux HD over my local network. Posted: 04 May 2021 10:43 AM PDT I don't know what else to do. Linux mint xfce ate all of my ram? What to do now? Posted: 04 May 2021 10:42 AM PDT I have again tried out linux mint xfce 20.1. I think it ate my most of the ram.. While multitasking with firefox opened (maybe 4/5 tabs there), I only got available ram is 184mb and free is 141mb. My question is : 1. Shouldn't I worry now? 2. Should I switch to another distro now? 3. I noticed there was a large ram change happened Between with internet connection on and off? 4. If it needs lots of ram, then how xfce is most lightweight? Manjaro silently installs Budgie and Gnome Posted: 04 May 2021 09:31 AM PDT I've got a Manjaro/Windows dual-boot and to my surprise, today when I got into Manjaro, I saw 3 Gnome entries and a Budgie DE entry at login. I usually switch between XFCE and i3 at times, but I did not install Gnome or Budgie. Is this some update gone wrong stuff or is this common on Manjaro? I thought the whole idea was not silently installing stuff without user's knowledge! [link] [comments] |
Trying to find a specific desktop environment my professor used Posted: 04 May 2021 09:27 AM PDT Hello everyone, I'm a Linux beginner and I'm trying out different distros and desktop environments. I recently viewed a video one of my professors recorded on his computer and I couldn't find the exact desktop he used. The open windows he is using are all stacked on top of another at the top of his screen. Can anyone help me identify it? [link] [comments] |

Should i try out another distro? Posted: 03 May 2021 10:42 PM PDT Before dual booting linux with windows 10, I have tried out Linux mint xfce 20.1 in live usb. * i think i don't like the ui.. It sometimes looked boring. * Another thing is I couldn't get my wifi connection in there. * But I really liked the smoothness and the ability to multitasking faster in my 4gb ram without no heating issue. My question is: 1. Should i try another distro or stick with it? If yes, then which one? 2. Will there be any problem if I try out some distro in my pc with usb. 3. Can i get be able to get the wifi connection and 2gb Nvidia gpu card. N.B: I don't like play any game in my pc :) [link] [comments] |
Keep getting stuck at the loading screen Posted: 04 May 2021 07:55 AM PDT Namaste, I am new to Linux and I have tried to install Ubuntu, Mint, Manjaro but they keep getting stuck at logo screen whereas Manjaro doesn't even install it keeps getting stuck at Welcome to Manjaro! And switches off itself. Ubuntu gets stuck in loading screen and shuts down itself. Mint also keeps getting stuck in loading screen. I have used both of them in recovery mode but the resolution is bad. What the hell is wrong with my laptop. [link] [comments] |
Raspberry Pi for the living room Posted: 04 May 2021 07:55 AM PDT Hi, I hope that's related and that I can get some help, what will be the cheapest RPi that will give me a generally smooth video watching (1080p max) and internet browsing experience? Also, what is a recommended distro to install on it? It will be used as a media computer for my TV in my living room. Thanks in advance and may Cthulhu bless your good souls EDIT: Assuming i go for RPi 4, is 2GB of RAM enough? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 04 May 2021 07:52 AM PDT Hello all. I have been using linux for almost 5 years now. I started out with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS and now I am on 20.04. As I aged so did my hardware. My laptop CPU is i5-3337U and its really old now. I was thinking of migrating to other distro from Ubuntu. How is LibertyOS for daily use? Their website does say that pretty much everyone from business to professional gamers can use it. What are your views on it? [link] [comments] |
