What does this weird grey app icon mean? I can't click on it and can't delete it. Is it malicious? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:25 PM PST So I have this Icon on my phone that I don't recognize. http://imgur.com/gallery/6U2OC7O For everyone who can't click, its the android Icon, greyed out, with the instagram icon in the bottom right. I thought it was some kind of broken shortcut or something but I can't click on it and can't delete it and after rebooting the phone, it is still there. Can someone tell me what this is and how I get rid of it? [link] [comments] |
How to set a location-based reminder for when you *leave* a location? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:39 PM PST My dad lives in the sticks and has no mobile signal at home, so to save battery we have Airplane Mode on when he's at home. I'm trying to use Assistant to remind him to turn Airplane Mode OFF when he leaves home, but Assistant doesn't seem to understand that concept. Am I missing something here? Saying "Remind me to turn off Airplane Mode when I leave home" doesn't work. Assistant asks, "When would you like to be reminded?" and offers up "time" and "place" options, and the "place" option doesn't have a "when leaving" option. Saying "Remind me when I disconnect from [home wifi network]" doesn't work either. Surely this basic functionality exists, so I assume I'm doing something wrong. Help? (Then again, Google can't be assed to allow Contacts to be marked and sorted by business name if there's a name on the card, so maybe I'm hoping for too much.) [link] [comments] |
Does Android 10's file-based encryption encrypt apps' identity? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 10:33 PM PST Hi. As opposed to full-disk encryption. Is someone with access to my hardware capable of seeing which apps I have installed? Furthermore, if they cannot, but if the encryption method in question operates on apps' individual files as opposed to entire partitions, does it pad apps' files, round to say 5 or 10 megabytes, so to prevent metadata identification? Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Has anyone had any luck with unlocking the bootloader for the Blu G8 on Linux? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:46 PM PST I've been messing around with different commands for a few days now, and I'm stumped. This certainly isn't the first phone I've attempted to root on this beautiful OS, but I haven't had this much trouble since trying to find info for the Alcatel Idol 3 after updating it to Marshmallow (there is no full info online to do it since several users posted then removed all the needed info/tools for some reason—it's become my car nav system) and I can't figure out what to do next. Linux recognizes my phone and boots it into fastboot on prompt, but whenever I use any variation of code to unlock the bootloader, nada—it basically tells me that the command isn't recognized. I've tried Blu's official instructions, I've tried removing the lockscreen (someone said that gets in the way sometimes), I've tried looking for special linux friendly drivers (can't find any, and I'm honestly not sure I'd even need them anyway since it recognizes my phone in the different boot modes). It probably goes without saying, but yes, I've turned on everything needed in the dev options. I'm flippin stumped. I have two, and the screen is mad cracked on one, so I was planning on rooting both and turning the cracked one into something akin to an emergency android box with a rom/access to Linux just in case my laptop shits itself for the final time. I just want to fully step away from google as much as I can. It isn't a network locked phone either; I've got two sims in it. [link] [comments] |
System taking up 19gb of storage. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 09:15 PM PST From what I know, on most pcs, windows only takes up around 19gb of space, when fully installed. However, on my realme x2 pro and some other pixel phones that I have seen, system storage is extremely high and only keeps increasing after each subsequent software update. Is there a way to optimize/ reduce the amount of storage that my system is taking up? Ideally, this solution should not include flashing ROMs, and factory resetting a device. Thanks for any help! No option for auto dark mode on Twitter nor Facebook messenger nor Discord Posted: 03 Jan 2021 08:23 PM PST All of these have auto dark mode on iOS, but not on Android. How come? There is auto dark mode on Twitter Android, but it doesn't seem to change with auto dark mode on the system, and must be done manually via Twitter app [link] [comments] |

How to find out which app is making sound? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 07:31 PM PST From last week, I have been getting a new notification sound without anything on the notification bar. I checked the notification log, but couldn't find anything. Tried uninstalling some of the most used apps and still the notification sound plays randomly. Checked Google Chrome also, but no luck. Is there any way to find out which app is making the sound? [link] [comments] |

On a Tablet, can I lock the navigation bar to the physical bottom of the screen like a phone? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:51 PM PST On my phone (Galaxy Note 9) the nav bar is always in the same spot on the bottom. I just got a Tablet (Samsung Tab A 2019) and the nav bar moves around with the orientation when rotated. Can I lock it to a side so when I turn the device, the nav buttons stay where they were before? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2021 12:43 PM PST Hi I have a google pixel 4, on the latest version of android 11. I recently came from iPhone, during the time I used iOS 14 with widgets. One of the great things about iOS 14 is the ability to "stack" widgets. I was wondering if there is an app, that allows you to merge multiple widgets in one. I mean the possibility to switch through different widgets, in a single widget space. I'm not sure if someone has made this an app, so I figured I'd post it here. Any help or suggestions is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
Ads not working on my galaxy s10 Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:03 PM PST You know in a lot of phone games you have the option to watch a short video for extra lives or coins or whatever. I haven't been able to do that on a single app in some time, and I've noticed there are also no ads whatsoever in apps. None of the "wait 30 seconds to keep playing" type of ads or anything. I don't remeber installing an ad blocker on this phone. Is there an android phone default ad blocker I might have turned on? [link] [comments] |
Do deleted files stay deleted even after a factory reset? Posted: 03 Jan 2021 06:00 PM PST Hi, pardon me if this is a weird question here but I don't know where else to ask. Long story short, I had a rooted ROG Phone 2 which was rooted through TWRP and had a broken LCD but was accessible through scrcpy or my hdmi cable. I originally did a factory reset weeks ago, but before I sent it away to be delivered I checked it again just to be sure, and my gallery files were still intact lol. I immediately selected them one-by-one and ticked the permanent delete button and deleted them. Same goes for other folders in root since I think having TWRP makes those files safe on factory reset. I deleted folders such as (Android, cache, DCIM, etc. Just about everything that I was able to delete because some empty folders sent me a permission denied error) I did a factory reset once and found out some files were still on the recycle bin so I did the same thing. I used Undeleter afterwards and it only managed to find out one image which was apparently unopenable and was just a thumbnail. Does that mean other files are now irrecoverable? I sent it away already but I just wanna make sure the buyer who bought it for the main board doesn't get access to my winky winky or other sensitive pictures and blackmail me with it or something. I couldn't do a full wipe through TWRP because the screen was broken so I had to resort to that. [link] [comments] |
Help with bypassing Samsung Tablet lock. Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:31 PM PST I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 that I forgot the PIN for. I have important files I can't afford to lose, so how do I bypass the lock screen without having to do a factory reset? [link] [comments] |
New Samsung S20 update causing issues with storage permissions Posted: 03 Jan 2021 05:07 PM PST I put tv shows and movies onto an external USB type c flash drive and plug that in order to play the files. Generally VLC and MX player will auto-populate the main screen with the folders and now won't anymore probably due to the fact that the storage permissions changed in the newest update. I currently have to use the file manager to open the content since I can't get the apps to allow me to give it permission to read the flash drive. Thoughts on how to fix this? I know it is a very weird question but please help. [link] [comments] |
How to get Notifications to wake screen Posted: 03 Jan 2021 04:58 PM PST I just recently switched to android from IOS, and I realized that I can't get the notifications to wake up the lock screen. Updating to Android 11 or One UI 3.0 has made my phone laggy Posted: 03 Jan 2021 04:02 PM PST I'm using an S20 Ultra and just updated to Android 11 and Samsung's One UI 3.0 update, and now whenever I click an app to open it it takes about 5 seconds to actually open. In general it is now laggy when I do anything. I am using Nova launcher with a KLWP custom theme, and it's possible that's the issue, but I really don't want to use Samsung's UI. Has this happened to anyone else and is there a fix? [link] [comments] |

Problem with the messages app on Android 11 (Pixel 2xl) Posted: 03 Jan 2021 03:24 PM PST Opening a message thread has been bringing up a blank page for a while. The workaround I found is to clear data for messages app. The blank screen returns daily needing data cleared. Anyone seen this before? All updates are current. [link] [comments] |
