Looking for replacement to Lenovo Y700 (US, ~$1-1.2k) Posted: 29 Oct 2020 02:12 PM PDT I'm considering replacing my current Y700, but as the Y series was discontinued a few years ago I need to look elsewhere. I really like this laptop and if I could get essentially the same thing again I'd be happy. The FormLAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

A Golden Age for Budget Gamers Posted: 29 Oct 2020 08:10 AM PDT As the title suggests, I believe we are entering a Golden Age for the Budget Gamer. In the past being on a budget meant significant sacrifices in framerate and image quality, but now with games targeting high end hardware at 4k the low end stuff can finally provide a good experience at adequate resolutions. Real talk, 4k is completely unnecessary on smaller screens. I know everyone has different sensitivity to this sort of thing, but realistically, at least for me, you're really not gaining much from having a 4k image on anything under about 25 inches. I'll go even further and say anything under 20 inches doesn't even benefit much from 1440p. A budget laptop with a 15-17 inch screen? 1080p is absolutely fine Similarly, with FPS 240Hz is nice but absolutely not necessary, and the experience only really starts to break down when you get below 60Hz, especially when you factor in G-sync/Freesync. 10 years ago high end hardware targeted a great gaming experience and low end targeted playable. Now, high end targets a premium experience and low end targets good. Pretty soon, low end will bump up to great while high end soars further into the non-critical premium territory. Right now a laptop with an RTX 2060 can play any game under the sun either at or close to maximum settings without dipping below 60fps, and often reaching triple digit range. I have a GTX 1650 in my laptop and I run shockingly good settings on a lot of games at 1080p 60fps. I've yet to find a game that I couldn't keep at least medium settings on while playing, and i only paid $560USD for my machine. Feels good, man. [link] [comments]

Did i get a good deal? And how does it scale Performance wise compared to my desktop pc ( Ryten 5 1400, 16gb Ram, 500gb SSD, GTX 780)? [link] [comments]
Laptop keeps saying low battery when plugged in Posted: 29 Oct 2020 01:59 PM PDT Bought a refurbished laptop from a highly recommended local shop. It has a 1 yr warranty and they said I can return it within 7 days for a full refund or exchange. The laptop itself seems fine, but I'm having issues with the charger. The first charger they gave me wasn't recognized by the laptop. I went back to the shop and was given a replacement charger. This one seemed to work fine. But 3-4 times now, I will be using the laptop, plugged in with it fully or close to fully charged, and the low battery light will flicker "battery low" will flash and it will power off. Even though the battery is not low! Not sure if I can fix this myself, if I should request another second charger, or if I should return the laptop? EDIT: The laptop is a Dell Latitude E6320 [link] [comments]

Laptop constantly stuck at 0,40ghz Posted: 29 Oct 2020 01:30 PM PDT I got a new laptop for my birthday in July and since I've gotten it , it randomly caps at 0,40ghz sometimes for very long periods where I can't even do simple tasks such as doing a google search or even just opening applications or for very short times and it's back to normal . Any idea what could be causing it ? Would REALLY appreciate any help . I've thought about smashing my laptop into pieces an unhealthy amount of times . [link] [comments]

Posted: 29 Oct 2020 12:04 PM PDT Hey everyone, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to upgrading laptops, but, i recently got a new Lenovo Ideapad 3 (14ARE05 model) for work, but the SSD and RAM are rather lacking (4GB soldered RAM with 1 free slot, and 128GB SSD NVMe M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 3) The manual says: "Up to 2 drives (one HDD and one M.2 SSD): ● HDD / SATA 6.0Gb/s, 2.5" wide, 7mm high ● M.2 2242 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 2 ● M.2 2280 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4" So, do i HAVE to buy a 2.5" SATA SSD if i want to leave the NVMe drive in, or can i put a SATA M.2 drive in there instead, and, will they both work alongside each other if i do? The RAM part I'm pretty ok with, just the SSD part that is a puzzler [link] [comments]

Energy drink fell upon the laptop Posted: 29 Oct 2020 10:31 AM PDT Accidentally some bit of energy drink fell upon my laptop so I immediately wished it up with tissues/moist wipes and turned it around so that the liquid can flow out. I know that you have to remove the battery but I don't have any tools to do so and that you shouldn't use a hairdryer or at least on a very low setting though I'm not sure about that. I think it's still working as it didn't immediately turned off but I'm still worried that something might happen. Is it possible to use it or should I wait? Any other advice would be appreciated. Posted: 29 Oct 2020 09:54 AM PDT I was wondering if i should get the new xps 15, and whether or not it is worth the cost. I need one for school and work but i do want to do some light gaming like civ 6 or gmod. Theres two options im debating and its whether i should get one with a Intel® UHD Graphics or NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1650 Ti 4GB GDDR6 and theres a $300 difference. [link] [comments]
