New emoji in Google Messages app

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 07:44 PM PDT

I opened the Google Messages app today and noticed that the emojis looked slightly different. The blue is different in the tears and now the hearts are actually red. I haven't seen these anywhere before. This is using the beta version of Gboard. However, in every other app, the stock Android 10 emojis show up. I'm using a OnePlus 7 Pro on OxygenOS 10.

I have developed a app which is trying to help cope with depression. I am looking for beta testers.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 06:32 AM PDT

    Hello,

I used to have terrible anxiety and depression so I have developed a app called Raah.

    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.raahteam.raahtheapp

Sometimes we cannot focus on simple things and are blocked the entire day or maybe even weeks because we have something in our mind which is bothering us and we don't have the correct person to talk to without the fear of being judged.

The purpose of this app is you can talk to someone and share out your frustrations, sorrows or just speak your mind.

You can also listen to someone who wants to be heard and feel glad that you just gave some time and attention to someone and made them feel better..

Despite having so much social media around do you feel you can truly express yourself or connect with someone.

All this happens while you remain anonymous. The app is purely text chat based no audio, video ,no image sharing, no meme's nothing. Just straight text to help conceal your identity.

    Note:

    1. I am aware this concept may have flaws, talking to a stranger is not ideal or advisable but for topics like breakup, job loss, feeling worthless it does help talk to someone and get motivated.

    2. Raah is not a replacement for suicide hotline / professional therapy/counselling.

    3. We just use the phone number for verifying if you are a real user and protecting users against trolls. If you guys have any ideas on how to protect this platform against trolls please reach out to us.

    4. We plan to delete the chat data every 24 hours unless an incident is reported for moderation purpose. We tried our best to keep our data secure.

    5. Raah at this stage does not support end to end encryption yet but we do want to add soon.

    6. We are still in beta right now consider things to be broken. If you find any bugs, have any suggestions or feedback do send us here

    7. We do want to be open source soon.

An IPhone 11 review from a 10 year android user and why I am thinking of switching back to android

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 07:49 AM PDT

So I will start off by saying that I have been an android user for the past 10 years. I have nothing against Apple as I feel when it comes to software they are truly the only thing that is different from android. Yes multiple android manufacturers do something different, but under all that software still lays the core of android.

So you might ask why I switched in the first place. Well because I had been on android for so long I was not only curious but wanted to try something new. I have had everything from a nexus 7 to moto G5 to my last android phone a galaxy s10 plus. So I would say I know android pretty well

But after using the iPhone for 3 months I am beginning to miss aspects of android. I know Apple is all about simplicity but I honestly feel that aspects of android are more simple to do than iOS is.

So before I break down into the things I am missing I will start with the things that make the iPhone good. I don't really want this to be a dogging on Apple post but more of a I respect you enough to give credit post.

Pros Battery life. Especially when it comes to standby time. The percentage just doesn't move when your not using the phone which is not the case on android I can go to bed leaving the iPhone unplugged if I want and still be at the same level in the morning.

Face ID I thought I was not going to like Face ID but I was pleasantly surprised with how accurate it is and quick.

Live Photo's Truly a neat return that can play a video from the moment you took the picture

Speed and smoothness It has truly been a quick and smooth experience. I not saying I have not had hiccups but I can say that it has not disappointed.

Display I have the iPhone 11 so I was expecting the display to be terrible from all the reviews but it is not that bad

Software updates I can say this has been truly nice. Something ( which I know might never happen) I wish android did better

Now for the cons and why android is better

Moving files either with pc or wireless It is so dang difficult to move files from one source to another with an iPhone. I can't Bluetooth images to an android device. Or plug it into my pc and make it act like an usb drive. It is very frustrating that it is like this.

YouTube Yes YouTube . Because of YouTube not using the same VP9 videos at a lower resolution look worse on the iPhone. If you play a 480p video on an iPhone next to an android at 480p the video looks like it is hd on android

Customizable Yes I know Apple is a locked eco system but I did not know how much just something as simple as moving apps off the home screen to another would make me miss android so much. Im not even think. Deep customization just simple stuff

Picture in picture Yes I know the feature is coming but it should of been here sooner

Split screen This is such a usable feature for me I really wish the iPhone had it

Specs to price ratios I will say that the iPhone 11 give me everything I need. The speed is amazing the cameras look amazing the screen is very color accurate. And battery life is great. But sometimes raw specs are impressive

More screen to body ratio and no notch Android manufacturers push the screens to there limits ( pun intended) and have reduced the notch all the way down to a hole punch. Yes I know the notch on iOS is different because of everything it houses for Face ID but smaller would be nicer.

And last but not least is It's not Android...

I have truly enjoyed trying something new. But I am getting the itch to move back to android. I have thought about it but I don't know if I really want to buy another phone right now or not. The pixel 4a is looking enticing especially if it releases tomorrow. But we will wait and see. Also has anyone else tried iOS and if so how long did you stay?
