Browser sending me to Google play rather than reddit app

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:37 AM PDT

Hey guys, im having a wierd issue with my Samsung Galaxy X. It used to be that I could open a link to a reddit post on my phone and it would automatically go to the reddit app.

Now when I click on one, it instead opens the play store page for the reddit app, and if I then click the "open" button for the app it opens Reddit, but not to the page I was trying to open.

Because of this, i have to instead read certain reddit links in the web browser, which is not idea.

Attempts to Google the issue only resulted in people clicking on spam links.

    VPN's always slow

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:05 PM PDT

I've never paid for a VPN but have tried a couple different free ones. My home internet is 150Mb/s so almost 19MB/s. But when I use a VPN my internet speed when downloading stuff is abysmal. Anyone know why or have any suggestions?

    Adware infection?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 08:46 PM PDT

    Hey guys,

in the last few weeks my phone has been randomly opening the play store to specific app pages. Different app every time but I do see Nord VPN and Alibaba a lot. My guess was it's an adware infection. What's the best way to deal with it? Factory reset?

Unable to find thumbnails of pictures

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 04:49 PM PDT

So for some reason my SD card was corrupted the day my son was born, I can still read the pictures that were taken previously, but all the pictures that were taken at the hospital were corrupted. I can still see the thumbnails of those pictures, but I can't find them on my phone.

I did some research on this matter and the solution I get is to go look in DCIM/.thumbnails or something like that which is a hidden folder, but this folder is not there...

I don't mind not being able to recover the full size pictures, but I would be really happy to at least get the thumbnails...

My phone doesn't seem to save all the pictures I download

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:49 AM PDT

I have to transfer photos from my PC to my phone. Doing it online is way more convenient than by cable. However, most of the times for some reason the phone doesn't retain all the photos downloaded. For example, I download 7 files, I see a notification that they're all downloading, they all finish, but then once I actually go to see the photos, sometimes only 4 or 5 are there. Some are missing. I have to repeat the process until somehow it magically works, but this is annoying.

I've been doing this with Google Drive, but today I got tired of this problem and decided to switch to DropBox, but the exact same thing happen. This time it got even less photos, 3 out of 7, even though they all downloaded! Any idea how can I fix this? It's not a space issue and I see the notification that each photo was downloaded. I have a Pixel 3A.

I didn't install anything tho, i just launched the game ( .bin file) via epsxe. Do i have to worry about anything? Thanks in advance

Is it possible to remove a word from Google/Gboard's voice-to-text?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 12:38 PM PDT

(Note 9, Android 10, Gboard, Voice to text, not a learned word, shortcuts don't work)

Should I post in a google sub for this, instead? If so, please treat me like I'm stupid and tell me which. All I see that would be appropriate is /r/google.

I am dying to remove "cuz" from voice to text.

I use voice-to-text all day for work, and I'm very tired of having to edit "cuz" into "cause" before I can send a text, it negates the usefulness of the feature.

Slang like that is very unprofessional, they even talked about "cuz" on Armchair Expert, Dax noticed it's the default in his phone over "cause" and they agreed it just looks bad.

Someone, for the love of all things good in this world, help me.

It's not a learned word, AND I've made "shortcuts" to change "cuz" into "cause", which doesn't help.

Going to settings > dictionary > personal dictionary > english, and adding the word doesn't help either, but it does make me curious if I can change the dictionary that voice-to-text uses? Or something like that?

Thanks for reading, I sincerely appreciate anyone's help.

edit: forgot to ask if I need to switch to Samsung voice services? Is the solution not using Google? If so, what to switch to and do they have real words or at least the ability to change slang into real words?

Instagram, Twitter, or Snapchat: which is the best to send a 1 minute video to someone

Unfortunately the only options are DMs on Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. If I could use a better messenging app I would. I know some apps and sites have better compression algorithms than others.

Prevent one Google account from Gmail app access without removing it the entire phone.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 10:50 AM PDT

I have 2 accounts on my phone, my work account and personal account.

This is my second phone, one I use for work. I do NOT want my personal emails to appear on here, but I still want to use the Google Play store to install apps I've paid for. Everything works fine - Except Gmail. I cannot find a way to prevent that second account from getting added to Gmail without removing the account completely from the phone.

My Android is forcing dark themes on webpages because of a flag that I enabled that no longer exists.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:40 PM PDT

So I followed the instructions on this post:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/efs4fu/found_a_new_addition_to_chrome_dark_mode/

And it's great, but every once in a while, it needs to be turned off to see a webpage right. About a month ago, the checkbox disappeared. I can't seem to disable it anymore. Even when I go to light mode, it still "darkens" webpages. I've tried looking for the flag to disable and reenable to try to get it to come back but no luck. What can I do?

Please help me identify this suspicious app.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 03:30 PM PDT

Whenever I use an internet app on my phone a separate app opens on the background. I cannot figure out a way to post my screen shot on here but the icon is a yellow background with a black phone toward the bottom and three white lines above it. The lines grow in size indicating some sort of signal connection. It looks like the wifi lines. If I click the button that allows me to close my apps it is the only time I see it. Also, when I click to open the app I am sent to my homescreen. The app is still running in the background until I swipe up to close it. Any information is much appreciated.

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 11:19 AM PDT

    Hello there,

I'm trying to get better battery life on my phone and I saw I change the network type. I use 4G for internet and maybe 3G,not sure. 2G is discontinued. I upload the options available: this and this. That one selected is the default one, which other do you recommend me to try? Or if is worth to switch?

    Retail Mode - testing vibration?

    Posted: 02 Aug 2020 02:50 PM PDT

I went into a store the other day to test a Moto G8. Specifically I wanted to see how the vibration is as I've been let down by some phones in the past and missed loads of calls.

Because Covid I wasn't actually allowed to touch the device but the sales assistant did for me. I suggested putting an alarm on to test vibrate. He set one and it went through but we waited a minute and then nothing happened. He went back to Alarms and it had disappeared. He put it down to the phone being in retail mode. I figured I wasn't going to learn much without being able to feel the phone anyway so left.

Quick Google and I couldn't find much about retail mode disabling alarms. Sounds likely but curious if it's actually true... would there be better ways to test vibration in store?
