My Keyboard Journey aka The Curse of Two-Finger Swiping Posted: 27 Sep 2019 10:50 AM PDT A few years ago, I had more time on my hands than I knew what to do with, and developed an interest in trying out new keyboards. I'd often search for 'the best keyboard' for android and check them all out, figuring which one to use. Then I came across Minuum. Minuum was a keyboard app that compressed the QWERTY layout into a single line, promising faster typing and efficiency while saving you screen real estate. I quickly decided to give it a go and found it pretty enjoyable to use. It didn't have as much of a learning curve as expected since it was basically the same layout we're all used to. This was my main keyboard for a while. But then, I came across this video by Android Authority. It featured an app called 'Keymonk Keyboard', and allowed not just one, but TWO finger swiping. I was fascinated by the weird premise of the app (I had swiped before, but two fingers was just ridiculous!) and decided to give it a go. While it took some getting used to, I quickly felt myself falling in love with this unique mechanic. My brain was surprisingly comfortable at splitting the keyboard into two mentally, and I found myself typing at normal speeds, maybe even faster, quite soon. This app had changed me permanently. Unfortunately, this app was not being developed anymore. My thumbs were sad, and I later switched back to a more 'normal' app since a lot of features in Keymonk were missing. I did however, start searching online for other keyboards that provided two finger swiping, but to my surprise, none of the major keyboards did so. None, except one. Enter Nintype. Nintype (or Keyboard 69 on the play store, nice) was an app under active development for both iOS and Android. It had a whole lot of features, like cursor moving, swiping the back key to delete words, theming etc. The dev was quite active on the dedicated sub (r/Nintype) too. Granted, the app was a little buggy, and behaved weirdly in certain situations, it was still more than I could ask for. My thumbs were happy again. This became my favourite keyboard app for a long time. But as nothing lasts forever, my joy didn't either. The dev stopped development for the app (at least for a while), and a lot of bugs and issues were left still in the app. It became annoying to the point where I had to come back to Gboard, and while I do occasionally reinstall the app to remember the old days, for now, it's not very usable. My point is, two finger swiping is awesome, and makes your efficiency in typing go up. Once you get used to it, it's hard to come back to a regular keyboard. I'm sad that not more keyboards have it, and hope that some do down the line. Also, since most people probably didn't know about this, I figured I'd share the joy of two-finger swiping with y'all. TL;DR: Two finger swiping in keyboards is awesome and should be more of a thing. [link] [comments]

Just got dark mode for the Google Play Store! Posted: 27 Sep 2019 03:05 AM PDT The app randomly closed itself when I was using it and when I reopened it it went dark mode. Anyone else have this? Also received dark mode for Gmail yesterday. Must be staged rollouts and server side changes [link] [comments]
Do a lot of people only charge their phone to 80% at night? Posted: 27 Sep 2019 02:42 PM PDT So I have been reading up on taking care of your phones battery, and came upon the conclusion that staying between 80%-20% is ideal to prevent your battery from degrading the most. That being said how many people really do this? If you do are you seeing the results you expected? Do you fastcharge in between? I have so many questions! [link] [comments]
Razer Phone (or other android) not detecting headphones SOLUTION! Posted: 26 Sep 2019 10:35 PM PDT Problem: I have been trying to figure out over the last week why my Razer Phone (android 9.0) has not been able to play music over headphones but always plays over the speaker. I spoke to Razer live chat who said multiple other users are currently facing this issue with USB type C headphones, so I thought I'd put on Reddit the solution I found Solution: Go into developers setting (google it if u don't know how to, very easy), and disable "Disable USB audio routing".
