4 Quick Tl;Dr Android Game Reviews / Recommendations (Episode 121) Posted: 27 Sep 2019 12:06 PM PDT Happy Friday morning/evening/night, fellow Android gamers! :) And welcome back to my weekly tl;dr recommendations based on the 4 most notable games I have played this week. This week, with a 2D indie MMORPG with no pay-to-win and a very unique monetization model, a wacky basketball game for people who don't know how to play basketball, an endless runner chess game, and a sci-fi space MMO with a ton of content to explore. Disagree with my opinion? Let's have a friendly discussion below. New to these posts? Check out the first one from 121 weeks ago here. The games are "ranked" somewhat subjectively from best to worst, so take the ranking for what it is. Let's get to the games:Curse of Aros [Game Size: 24 MB] (free)Genre: MMORPG / 2D / Indie - Requires Online Access Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Curse of Aros is a new no-pay2win top-down open-world 2D indie MMORPG with loot that drops to the ground, PvE, PvP, and rare pets. The combat system is simplistic, with no abilities that we can use (like in Oldschool Runescape), but the short fights and ability to "kite" enemies ensures the combat doesn't grow too stale. The game's being continuously updated with a mining skill recently added, and monetizing only through selling cosmetics and through the developer's Patreon page, the game has the potential to turn into a true indie MMORPG gem in the future. Google Play: Here YouTube First Impressions / Review: Here Bouncy Basketball [Game Size: 98 MB] (free)Genre: Sports / Basketball / Indie / Wacke / 2D - Offline Playable Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Bouncy Basketball is a fun, wacky, 2D basketball game with both singleplayer tournaments and quick fights, and same-device multiplayer game-modes. We jump, aim, and shoot, all using just a one-finger control system that keeps the game casual while still allowing for epic slam dunks and ball steals. In fact, there's a surprisingly high skill ceiling considering it's a casual game. Monetization happens through occasional video ads with no iAP to remove them. Fortunately, they don't appear too often. Google Play: Here YouTube First Impressions / Review: Here ChessFinity [Total Game Size: 139 MB] (free)Genre: Turn-based / Endless "runner" / Chess-like - Offline Playable Orientation: Portrait Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: ChessFinity is turn-based an endless "runner" chess game where, equipped with one of each type of chess pieces, we have to get as far as we can down the endless chess-board in 60 seconds without losing all of our chess pieces. We gain bonus time whenever we wipe out an opponent chess piece, we can switch between our remaining chess pieces at any point in time, and when one of our chess pieces die, we're taken back to the lastest checkpoint. This core gameplay loop is fun and challenging, although a "zen" game-mode where we're not stressed by the 60-second countdown would do this game wonders. Monetization is non-obtrusive, with a $3 iAP to remove ads (although I haven't seen a single ad in my time with the game), and iAPs up to $9 to gain more in-game gold immediately, which can be spent on temporarily upgrading individual chess pieces. Google Play: Here YouTube First Impressions / Review: Here Second Galaxy [Total Game Size: 1.86 GB] (free)Genre: MMO / Space / Sci-fi - Requires Online Access Orientation: Landscape Required Attention: Full tl;dr review: Second Galaxy is a beautiful new open-world sci-fi MMO where we slowly unlock a fleet of spaceships, upgrading their weapons and parts to take on campaign missions, side-quests, and eventually; PvP. Although there are plenty of stats and upgrades, which allows for heavy min-maxing, the game feels like a simplified version of the EVE Online PC game, with no way of manually controlling our spaceship during combat. Instead, we simply tap the enemy we want to attack, and pick any of our weapons or abilities to start firing. The game's fun and high-quality, but its 2 main downsides is that we can't freely explore the universe on our own, and the monetization, which includes multiple battle pass-like subscriptions that provide a pay-to-progress-faster advantage. Ida's Dress in Monument Valley Posted: 27 Sep 2019 07:07 PM PDT I was playing Monument Valley for the first time in a few months and I noticed that Ida's dress doesn't change colors when you beat the level anymore. That was something that happened, right? I'm not having a false memory here, right? [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Sep 2019 04:09 PM PDT Oh man, I am going to get shit on for this one, but I need help with my guilty pleasure games. I'm looking for a game that let's you renovate an area, you know the type: games like Gardenscapes/Homescapes
Bonus points for:
Things like monetization, online/offline, single/multiplayer don't really bother me too much. Thank you! edit: too dumb to make lists on mobile [link] [comments]

Any good telescopic controller without the 360 layout? Posted: 27 Sep 2019 04:15 PM PDT Title. I've been eyeing those retractable controllers cuz I figure my Android S9 is better than a GPD XD or whatever, but they all have the 360 form-factor of d-pad on bottom. I want to mostly play emulated games, so I'd rather the d-pad is in a comfy place. I also don't really want to get those clip things either cuz they look unwieldy, and just not how I like to game portable. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]

Crystal Soul. An indie CCG game review. Posted: 27 Sep 2019 05:02 AM PDT Hi, r/AndroidGaming! I've made a video review on a new open development CCG named Crystal Soul. Here is the link:https://youtu.be/J4C6MEARon4 For those, who are not happy watching the video, here is a more compact and dense text version: Crystal Soul is an indie free collectible card game that is made by two people. IMO, the best feature about this game isn't actual gameplay but a great small community and that fact that Crystal Soul uses open development strategy. That means that the game is being developed with a heavy focus on community opinion. The game has it's Discord server where players can affect development by offering their ideas and participating in polls. That's a great small thing and I've had a lot of fun while hanging there and participating in the community. Gameplay-wise the game is pretty simple in its core but deep enough when it comes to deck-building. Cards can be upgraded and there is a possibility to buy upgrades. One may expect some P2W here, but upgrading cards do not increase their power but decrease their "weight". Players' decks of ten cards combined can have no more than a fixed amount of weight. Decreasing cards' weight through upgrading allows a player to make more variable decks which are not guaranteed to be more powerful since cards that have more weight are just more advanced and complex while not guaranteed to be stronger. That's a cool feature that allows upgrades but restricts the game from being a P2W one. Art and visuals of Crystal Soul are nice, but not AAA nice. Game characters are mostly cheerful and cute anime girls and pokemon-like monsters which are cute too. Dev claims, that all art was made by his wife. What I don't like about the visuals of Crystal Soul is interface clunkiness. Some interface elements are hard to read or notice at all. Also, all interface windows (and modes) are available to players at the start, so it makes a game a bit overwhelming for new players. That's an unpleasant thing that probably will improve in the future if the game will stay alive. The game has synchronous PvP, but it has only 1000+ downloads on Play Store ATM (it's a very small and rare game), so you often will play with bots and not real players. Consider that. The game also requires a constant connection which also can be a downside for some people. I would recommend trying this game, but only if you are ready to tolerate some bugs or just general roughness. I've enjoyed this game in its great community in general. Thank you for your time and have a great day! Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.CrystalSoulTeam.CrystalSoulArena&hl=en_US [link] [comments]
Posted: 27 Sep 2019 07:48 AM PDT It's an arkanoid type game, and when you get rid of the blocks, little soldier-looking dudes that make a cute sound when you catch them. it doesn't have 3d blocks like [this](https://static.androidgame365.com/uploads/posts/2013-03/1363611765_zhyezhy-1.jpg), they all look flat. [request] Mystery dungeon like game with lots of strategy and depth Posted: 27 Sep 2019 07:59 AM PDT I've been addicted pmdiscord bot fighting strategy but looking for more depth in a game. I'm looking for something with reaction, evasion and environmental usage in the fight but more adventure to the game. Anyone come across anything like this. [link] [comments]
Anyone remember a Magic The Gathering game? Posted: 27 Sep 2019 02:07 AM PDT I'm not talking about the MTG-Puzzle Quest one. I remember quite strongly that I played an official Magic The Gathering card game back in 2016/2017 or so. I just recently got a new phone and tried to look it up but there's nothing to be found anywhere. It had a tutorial where they explained the game mechanics and it had a campaign mode where you could play the first chapter for free and then had to pay to continue. I remember that I really liked the effects and the asthetics of the game. Does anybody know what happened? Or am I just getting mental? [link] [comments] |
