    Online 2 player games

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 01:17 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

I'm looking for online 2-player games that I can play with my friend who lives on the other side of the world. It would be nice if you can suggest a few games that are 2-player compatible. I looked up a few - Glow Hockey 2, UNO among others. But all of them require the two people to be connected via the same network.

We are looking to play simple yet competitive games (like Glow Hockey 2) on our phones whose hardware is at least a year old. Any compatible app smaller than 50 MB should do.

Thanks a lot for your suggestions.

I need a good article recommendation app. I used to use pocket but they have several issues now

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 06:09 AM PDT

I know pocket is meant for saving articles which is why I started using it but then I found that they were pretty good at recommending me articles in science, tech, self-development, computing, etc. and I started using it almost entirely for that. I couldn't get them to stop recommending me sports stuff when I hid the articles, but for the most part, they did a good job recommending me articles based on what I saved. Then somewhere along the line they did an "update" and everything was ruined. They just keep recommending their own stuff (sort of like an 'editor recommendation' type thing) and shit I really don't care about. No matter how many times I hid articles and clicked the 'This isn't for me' option, it never changed so I stopped using it ages ago. But now I'm wondering if there's a good alternative. I tried feedly but it was meh.

    Pocket Pros and Cons:

    Pros:

    - Massive database of articles due to how many people use the app

    - Clean, smooth UI and UX

    - Offline download mode

    - Dark mode

    - Really good at grabbing relevant text and images and displaying them coherently when transitioning to minimalist mode

    Cons:

    - Recommendation algo is trash now, doesn't seem to learn at all even after saving and hiding dozens of articles

    - Pushes their recommended fluff articles they like 50% of the time

Also, does anyone remember stumbleupon? I think they could have done well in the app market. Concept was really good but I think they failed at marketing it well. Their recommendation algorithm was quite good and with a boost using AI, I think it could become even better.

I created a free app that lets you keep a log of the stuff in your home and then search for it using the Google Assistant. It is called HomeLog.

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 11:36 AM PDT

I recently released this app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=chenige.chkchk.wairz). Basically, it is to help you keep track of the things in your house for insurance purposes in case of a fire or some other disaster. It can also be used to just help remember where your stuff is. However, it also has a cool home automation application. Once you have entered in all of your stuff and its location(down to cabinets and shelves), you can tell the Google Assistant to "Ask HomeLog where my umbrella is" and it will respond with "Your umbrella is in the top shelf of the entryway closet." Or think about when you are making a smoothie and you forgot where the blender is. You can just say "Hey Google, ask HomeLog where my blender is." and it will say "Your blender is in the bottom drawer of the cabinet by the sink." Pretty cool, eh? I have already started working on the iOS version of the app. However, it is a bit of a learning curve so I do not have an ETA yet. Let me know if you have any Suggestions/Feedback/Feature Requests/Bug Reports. Also, 5 star ratings are a big help. :)

    Current priorities

Add more fields(serial number, brand, model) - Done!

Fix "back to app" issue when linking account to google assistant - "Fixed" this with a dialog that says "Sign in successful. Tap on \"Return to App\" to complete account linking."

Relocate items feature - Done! https://imgur.com/a/YAQNdah

Fix this bug (Named an item Télé and it got converted to Télé when exported)

    iOS app

    Add sharing home feature

    Import from Excel document

Add Reminder feature(i.e. change air filter)

    Question on Themes vs Launchers

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 08:00 AM PDT

I'm trying to upgrade my mom's phone from an LG Optimus L70, which won't run many apps anymore, among other issues. I'm looking at an LG Q7+. She is afraid of the interface being too different to re-learn. I think the L70 has an LG theme called something like Home Biz.

My question is, am I able to use a Launcher + Theme that would simplify the interface? She doesn't need the giant buttons "for seniors", but just a simple clean interface that has like 125% text and icons. I can't really tell where Launchers end and where Themes begin, nor can I find many that mate well together.

Also I want to keep the messaging app clean and easy if possible.

Last question; there's obviously no hardware buttons on most of these phones. Am I able to set the bottom interface buttons to ALWAYS be visible?

Thank you so much in advance for any help.

I am in search of a money managing app. It can be a really simple app where you just add your money expenses and income, I'd like the app to display quite in depth statistics.

Looking for an alternative to Moto's Command Center Widget

I love the design and feel of the Command Center for Moto phones, but dislike it because it uses Accuweather. Can anyone recommend an alternative that uses either NWS or NOAA?

Audio player app for class recordings?

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 11:06 AM PDT

I record my class lectures using my phone and right now I only use Google play music for playing it. I need a better audio player that has a good seeker so I could rewind easily to 15 secs ago without trouble (something that is too troublesome with the google music player). Any suggestions?

Setting up a phone for a relative, need app suggestions.

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 11:04 AM PDT

I'm setting up a phone for one of my relatives who is less than coherent in anything tech, I'm basically setting up their various social media things they currently use and a few things that will make life easier for me when i deal with their phones in the future.

Are there any apps you use to help manage family member's devices from a distance without having to make a house call every time?

Hoping for something that lets me remote in with permission on their end in particular, and any apps that just make things easier.

    [QUESTION] Nine email notification issue

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 10:48 AM PDT

Hi everyone, I recently bought Nine email and I'm having a few issues with it. Nine asked me to exclude the app from Data Saver, but it's been draining my battery since then (20% on a full charge). However, when I didn't exclude Nine from my data saver I only got notifications for my email when I opened the app. I turned on IMAP IDLE in the Lab settings along with Preemptive push scheduling, but that didn't seem to work either. Any advice? I'm on S9

Smart music radio that doesn't require permanent Internet connection

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 10:21 AM PDT

This music radio maintains a track cache that doesn't stop playing without Internet connection. Time to time the application will need it though to update your tracks. With Nota you cannot pick stations or genres you want to hear. Instead it offers you an infinite sequence of tracks, each one of those can be paused or skipped. Depending on your skipping behavior Nota determines your music preferences and offers tracks accordingly. It takes a while to learn your taste, so don't expect to hear your favorite music right away.

    Spotify alarm apps

    Posted: 21 Aug 2019 03:37 AM PDT

Best Spotify alarm apps that can choose specific songs or a whole playlist and have it on shuffle therefore not play the same start song each time it goes off. Also it must have sleep tracking as well. Sleep as android is a good app but as far as I can tell it doesn't have the capability like the Google clock app with Spotify. If there is a blend of the the two that would be great.
