| Looking for touch-pen that works on phones Posted: 19 Aug 2019 04:54 PM PDT My grandma upgraded from an old brick phone to a samsung galaxy J4 Plus (upon recommendation from another family member). Anyway, it seems to be fine for her in theory but what she struggles with is pressing/tapping the screen with accuracy. I thought it would help if she had a pen/stylus sort of thing that can actually tap/swipe the screen, as it would give her more control. Do you guys know if any stylus' exist that actually can interact with the touchscreen on modern phones?, and if so, then where you can get them? If there are no answers does anyone know a more relevant subreddit to ask this question in maybe? Thanks alot [link] [comments]  |
| Will I lose automatic Firmware OTA updates after rooting? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 01:34 AM PDT Hello, I'm thinking about rooting my Samsung Galaxy S10 Exymos so I can use Magisk. Did some research and found this issue: "Samsung Firmware OTA (aka System Updates) will no longer work once you flashed custom binaries. (You can flash custom ROMs if you want to keep the OS up-to-date.)" source Does it mean that after rooting and installing Magisk I won't be getting security updates and the only way to install them would be to flash factory ROM, install the update via ADB (like explained here) and then recover all my apps and settings using titanium backup? Seems quite complicated... Also I guess that not installing the updates would be insecure... How do you deal with this issue on rooted phones? [link] [comments]  |

Whenever I download an image or anything else off of Google it does not show up in dolwnloads. Nothing does. Posted: 19 Aug 2019 05:50 PM PDT For example, my shopping list app. I look at what I need, put my phone in my pocket and walk to the aisle to get whatever it is. Then I unlock my phone to see what's next and the app gets minimized and I'm looking at the home screen again. Is there some way to make it stay maximized even when unlocking the phone? | Posted: 19 Aug 2019 10:17 AM PDT I've had the phone for about 6 months using it on Straight Talk with no issues. About 2 weeks ago I stopped being able to send MMS messages, though data worked. I decided to go look at the APN settings to find my custom one had disappeared and there was a list of ones I hadn't added. I tried to add a new one, but it wouldn't show on the list when I saved it. So I deleted all the ones from the list and was met with this: "Unable to view the access point name settings. Access is restricted for the current user profile". Same issue happens in safe mode. I did a soft reset and wiped the cache, I'm still met with that same notification and I'm unable to save any of the profiles I add. Well, if I just give it a name and add an APN it saves, but then once I complete the rest of the fields and hit save it disappears again. Edit: If I leave the MCC and MNC at their default values of 310 and 260 the profile will stay when I save it, though neither the data nor MMS work. All the Straight Talk settings call for the vaules to be 310 and 410 however, and when I change them to that the APN profile disappears. I'm really at a loss as to why this is happening. Edit 2: Found an APN setting with MNC value of 100 and it also deletes it. So changing the MNC value is definitely what deletes the profile. [link] [comments]  |
| My reminders don't work anymore. Posted: 19 Aug 2019 05:39 PM PDT I have an app called To Do Reminder with Alarm and it has been great for me for at least a year. But the past month or so it has stopped doing the reminder at the right time. Sometimes it will be 5 minutes late, sometimes it doesn't work at all until I next turn on my screen. Did something change with Android? I would usually blame the app, but I had some DigiCal calendar events that were late to show up too. I am on Android 9. [link] [comments]  |

| Can't delete a phone number from contact Posted: 19 Aug 2019 11:10 AM PDT My wife's contact info includes an incorrect phone number (my own number, actually). I can't see this number in the edit screen, either on my phone or the online Google Contacts. Even if I switch the secondary phone field to "Other" in the edit page I don't see it. Frustratingly, even though the good number is set as default, I get asked by apps all the time which number I want to use. Help me delete that number! [link] [comments]  |

Posted: 19 Aug 2019 07:16 AM PDT So I had to make a drive to drive from central New Jersey to Palmer Massachusetts and with traffic it was going to be about a 4.5 hour drive with traffic, and it wanted me to take a really crowded route through Connecticut up to where I was going. Now I detest traffic so I figured I would take another route, I would drive up another highway through New York state and then head east to where I needed to go, it was going to be about the same time, but with open roads and hopefully no traffic. I was completely right in there being less traffic, but Google Maps kept trying to get me to take the other route, and when I reached the top of New Jersey, I missed the exit it wanted me to take and low and behold my arrival time dropped by about 30 minutes. Then I missed another exit about a mile later, and it dropped another 30 minutes... Is there a setting I can adjust or application I can get to get the fastest route the first time? | Posted: 19 Aug 2019 03:32 PM PDT I have T-Mobile (US) and my only option for internet out here in the sticks is to use a phone as a hot spot. What phone would you all recommend for that purpose? Preferably something a little older I can get relatively cheap. Something I can root easily if necessary and has a nice strong 5Ghz Wi-Fi hotspot. This phone will literally be used for only this purpose. It will sit on a shelf plugged into a charger, connected (over WiFi) to a travel router and act as only a modem. I'm aware there are routers with 4G modems and hotspot devices available: those won't work for me. It has to be a phone. Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]  |

| Having issues switching from iPhone to s10 Posted: 19 Aug 2019 03:19 PM PDT I've been using the google ecosystem for my calendar, maps, spreadsheets, email, etc. for years now. I was actually impressed with how well it work on iOS considering the two companies are competitors. Recently, after much frustration with Apple and their products, I made the jump from my old iPhone 7 to the S10. I love it, but I won't lie there's been a huge learning curve from apples very simplistic OS to Android's immense custom-ability. I've been trying to get my google accounts set up on my new phone and I'm having a really hard time and a lot of frustration trying to get it set up, almost to the point where I'm having doubts about my switch (but then I remember I have a earphones jack again on a current model phone and it makes it a little better). Jokes aside, the problems I keep running into are: - How do I quick add events into my calendar? That's one thing I do really miss about apple, You could create a new event and it would try to auto fill the rest for you if it was a reoccurring thing, essentially doing 90% of the work for you. Is there a way to do this in android? - I'm using google assistant rather then bixby, but even though I have all the apps downloaded (google calendar and others), if I ask assistant "whats coming up on my calendar for today?" or "what reminders do I have coming up?" it says nothing is coming up, and if I make a reminder using assistant I don't get a ratification when its due. This is probably my biggest frustration as a I'm a forgetful and busy person. How do I correct this? - Lastly, is there a way to get a notification when its time to leave from my current location to an upcoming event, like I could on iOS? I miss that. I made a call to my girlfriend on my way home, and when I got in the door I set my phone on a table. when I returned the screen was black, with flickering white/green lines near the top of the screen periodically every few seconds. I've tried to reboot and hard reboot, to little avail. The software still seems to be working - I can hear screenshot noises when pressing on the buttons, and vibration when trying to enter my pattern lock. Anyone know what might be causing this? Posted: 19 Aug 2019 08:13 AM PDT After a weekend of AT&T's coverage in my area sucking and causing me some problems, i'm thinking of switching over to Verizon. I currently have an S8 Active and I was wondering if I could have it unlocked by AT&T and move it over to Verizon, or if it is incompatible and I would need a totally different phone. I want to keep my next phone for another 3 - 4 years and I know Samsung only updates for 2 years (I miss this about my iPhone 4s). I don't mind not having official updates but I would like to still have updates unofficially through lineageOS or something. Do Samsung products have good aftermarket support for software?
