I'm sure the studio will be insanely expensive. Also I'm talking about the new m17.

Recommendations for laptop with £2000 budget

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 12:33 PM PDT

    Hi,

I want a thin and light gaming laptop for work and leisure. In terms of specs, I'm looking for i7-9850K, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 2070, 8 hour battery life, and 1080p/OLED/HDR/144 Hz. I want the laptop to last 4 years, and be from a reputable company with good after sales support.

I know that Computex occurred recently, and have been wondering if something close to my requirement will be released soon, or if I should wait just a little longer.

    Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me the LCD panel model of LG GRAM (2018) 15Z980 touchscreen edition?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 12:07 PM PDT

Sorry for my poor English skill first.

I'm planning to upgrade my non-touch 15 inch Z980 to a touchscreen, but I need to know the detailed model name of the panel of the touchscreen which be used by touchscreen edition like 15Z980-R.AAS9U1.

I have tried to search the information on the whole Internet but nothing there.

The non-touch LCD panel model of my current 15z980 is LP156WF9-SPN1, you can find its incomplete information here http://www.panelook.com/LP156WF9-SPN1_LG%20Display_15.6_LCM_overview_33417.html

I hope someone who uses the 15Z980 touchscreen edition can tell me the model name or other information I need.

If you don't know how to get the model name of your display panel, download and use some hardware detection software like AIDA64 or HWINFO, then you can find the LCD panel model information in some DISPLAY SECTION.

    Thank you so much~

Looking for a sturdy laptop that's suitable for video editing (but not too expensive)

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 11:49 AM PDT

As I'm gonna be working on the go for a while, I'm looking for a laptop that's trustworthy and can handle being dragged around. A strong shell is a must I'd say. I will mainly be writing and editing video on it in adobe premiere. My budget is less than 1000 dollars (preferably way less to be honest). Thanks for any tips and advice! :)

    Matebook D 14 or Thinkpad E485

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 11:10 AM PDT

So I've got a bit of a problem, I've been reading up and I see that the E485 w/ Ryzen 5 2500 (@ €530 on Lenovo Campus Germany, without OS and 1yr drop-in warranty) is a bit of a dud when you pitch it up against the Matebook D w/ Ryzen 5 3500 (@ €600 on Amazon.de with OS, 2 yr drop-in warranty). Given all this, I'm tilted towards the Huawei piece despite there being a few shortfalls with the RAM and the brand itself.

So, my question now is that will there be an E485 upgrade to Ryzen 5 3500 which might see better battery performance? Or should I just get the Matebook D? There seems to be an upgrade on the Matebook as well, tradingshenzen has a "Huawei Honor Magic Book - AMD R5-3500U - 8GB / 512GB - 2019 Edition" listed for €587, but then if I do end up buying that, I have a few concerns a) I'm not sure if I can get the Huawei Drop-in warranty in Germany and b) I have a feeling I'd have to end up coughing ~€130 as customs duties.

In terms of my options below, what do I go with?

    a) get the current TP-E485 @ €530

    b) get the current MB-14 @ €600

    c) Wait for a refreshed version of the E485 with a Ryzen 5 3500 in DE? If so, what time frame do I look at?

    d) Wait for Honor Magic Book 14 2019 Edition to release in DE? If so, what time frame do I look at?

    e) should I look at something completely different?

Help deciding between 2 in 1 laptops

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 10:49 AM PDT

    Hi all,

So I'm in the market for a new ~13in laptop. The 2 in 1 feature is really important to me, as I'll be using it as a tablet fairly often. Right now I'm looking at these: Surface Book 2, HP Spectre x360, and the Dell XPS 2 in 1.

I'm looking at either 8 or 16gb RAM, 256gb SSD, and i7 processors. I'm mostly going to be using this for browsing, movies youtube etc, and some casual gaming.

    I have some concerns:

The new XPS 13in 2 in 1 is coming out next month maybe? I could get the current one on discount after is comes out but then I would have to deal with the camera that points up at your nose. Should I wait for the new one?

I've heard good reviews about the HP Spectre except for the trackpad, which I hear you can download drivers for to make it more precise.

Does anybody have an opinion on which one of those 3 to get? Or any other suggestions for possible laptops?

Asus Zenbook or Asus TUF Gaming Laptop?

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 09:50 AM PDT

I plan on using the laptop to edit videos, photos, occasionally play games and watch movies.

I will also be traveling with it. The TUF laptop seems to be pretty big but I'm assuming gaming laptops are way better to edit videos/photos right? Idk much about these things, so would anyone be able to help me out?

I'd like to know which laptop is more equipped to aid my path. They're both $1099. The specs are on the Amazon page.

Thank you for helping me out, fam!

    Deciding Between Laptop's For College

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 09:06 AM PDT

I'm searching for laptops to use for when I go to college in a couple of months. I'm not looking for anything too fancy, just as long as the battery life is good and it can run basic word editing programs and maybe Photoshop too.

So far I've found these laptops with good reviews and nice specs but the only thing I'm uncertain of is the battery life of them. I'd appreciate it if anyone can attest to one of these or recommend something else <$600CAD(before tax):

    HP 14" Laptop (Intel Core i3-8130U, 4GB, 128GB SSD, Windows 10 Home) 14-cf0040ca

Asus X540UA-AB31-CA Laptop Computer, Intel Core i3-8130U Processor, 4GB DDR4 RAM, 128GB SSD, 15.6" FHD Display, Windows 10

2017 Dell Latitude E7440 14.1in HD Flagship Ultrabook PC, Intel Core i5-4300U 1.9GHz, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 256GB SSD, Bluetooth, Webcam, Windows 10 Professional (Renewed)

Refurb Bargains ? I've seen some X1 Thinkpads & Dell XPS, well spec'd but 2015/16 models. They'll will have had 2-3 yrs Corporate Use.

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 08:47 AM PDT

Looking specifically at the above models, but here's the form any way

    • Total budget and country of purchase: £400 - £500

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.

Value, Battery, Form (size) in that order

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Important. Need to be in the ultrabook mode

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows, with option for Linux

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Nope.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/a

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? build quality,

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I have very much enjoyed my Surface Pro 4, from 2016 but I only got the baby model, 4gb M3. Because the SSD goes some way to mitigating the low RAm, its absolutley fine for one or two normal apps , or a single browser 5 or 6 tabs, but after that it does start to chug a bit.

Its also not lapable for any practical purpose - you can't use it on the couch apart from in tablet mode, which is rubbish. I also dont have a use for the pen, although it works quite brillianttly, my handwriting is garbage.

I'm not up to date on CPU tech, so I dont know what 3 yr old i5 or i7 is compared to today. I'm sure will be plenty, with 8gb ram too - but i want to check there are no gotchas.

secondly, should i budget for a new battery on a used machine ? i guess i need a solid 4-6 hrs reliable light use, for convenience. rather than being able to work for long stretches on the move.

    thanks in advance

    UK - Lenovo Y540 GTX1650 vs 1660Ti

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 08:41 AM PDT

I recently looked on Lenovo's website and noticed that you can now buy the Lenovo Y540. There's several models, one which you can only choose with a GTX1650 and another with the GTX1660Ti. If you customise the specs to be the same, it's about £150 difference between each model (which is quite a fair amount). So, is the performance difference between the GTX1650 and 1660Ti quite big? Is it worth £150 extra?

Ultrabool under 700€ for University purpose...

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 08:36 AM PDT

    Hey guys,

My 9 year old MacBook Air is dying, and I'm on a budget to get an ultrabook that is light and well built enough to carry in my backpack to university and even do some travelling with it. I'm done with apple products btw. I'm not gonna do any gaming with it. Just University stuff, watching YouTube and Netflix, and doing some light work on Photoshop and image processing, but nothing related with video or content creating stuff.

I don't know the world of laptop tech, but is it too much to ask for an ultrabook under 700-800€ that could do all of that and would last at least 6-7 years?

Could you leave some models that could fit in with my needs?Thank you in advance.

    i5 9300H or i7 9750H for a 1660ti?

Which cheap docking station? Needs to work with thunderbolt and usb-c laptops

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 06:46 AM PDT

Is there a docking station that will work with both thunderbolt and usb-c macbooks. i.e. new macbook and 2015 model.

    - They do not need to be plugged in at the same time

-It's for a monitor and usb connections.

    - Looking for a cheap solution, so if there is a work around that could work...

    Lenovo Legion Y740 weight

    Posted: 03 Jun 2019 05:24 AM PDT

I'm gonna join university in a few months for mechanical engineering and I'm pretty much set on buying the Lenovo Legion Y740 for that purpose. But I saw that the laptop weighs around 2.5 kgs/5 pounds.

Does that seem too heavy for a laptop that I'm gonna be carrying around all day?

What would be the optimal laptop that weighs less but is still pretty powerful?

LF Help Choosing A New Laptop

    Posted: 02 Jun 2019 09:48 PM PDT

    Greetings,

    Recently got a new position as a Civil Engineer and am desperately in need of a new laptop. I have done some research and ended up spending some time looking at DELL's G7 15 Gaming laptop and got turned off by the reviews of multiple issues, so here I am seeking the knowledge of Reddit;

    • Total budget and country of purchase: 1600-1700 USD

    • Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Decent battery would be a plus.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you? Minimal

    • Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. ~15"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. CAD, no editing and minimal gaming

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? RuneScape, Facrorio, City Skylines

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? N/A

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I would like a intel i7, 16GB ram, 15-16" display and must be able to have reliable docking station comparability. I would also like around 512GB of SSD. Also open to the opinions of having a dual drive.

Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone who's got some guidance!
