Surface go + desktop vs 15” gaming laptop? Posted: 01 Jun 2019 06:56 PM PDT I'm busy deciding between the A's is tuf fx505du (ryzen 7, 1660ti) or for a surface go and later buying a pc (probably 9th gen i5, 1660ti) Which would you go for and why? (Do not account for peripherals apart from surface keyboard) [link] [comments] |

In search of a cheaper end, upgradable laptop. Posted: 01 Jun 2019 06:00 AM PDT At present, I can only afford a $500-ish latop so I'm looking for one with specs enough to run light gaming and productivity (ableton, photoshop,...) but upgradable for when I have the budget to do so. Preferrably, the laptop should consist of a 8th-gen i5/i7 intel core CPU, GTX 1050/1050i/1060 GPU, 256GB SSD, 4GB RAM or above. I'm not concerned about the aesthetic side and not really knowledgeable about other specs info so those are the only requirements for now. Also, if the requirements are wrong/incompatible in any way, do point out and I will take note for when I purchase a laptop in the future. Thanks a lot! EDIT: I've read the form in the sub rules so filling in some info Country: Vietnam; A decent balance between good battery life and specs is ideal but if I have to go for one it'd be specs. Weight and thinness not important. Windows OS screen size 15-16" Running mainly Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, PUBG(I'm not sure about specific setting but not esport quality) [link] [comments] |
Are there any other truly convertible laptops besides the Surface Book 2? Posted: 01 Jun 2019 04:14 PM PDT By "truly convertible" I mean that the screen is detachable and can be used as a tablet, but it has a real keyboard with a hinge rather than a keyboard cover that attaches magnetically. What I really want is something that functions just as well as a tablet *and* a laptop. Most of the time I will be using it as a tablet with a mechanical keyboard and mouse, but for casual sofa use and travel I need that laptop mode (and not some flappy keyboard cover that falls off easily like the one on my otherwise fantastic Eve V). I would get a Surface Book 2 except that (a) it's expensive, and (b) it's lame that the screen doesn't have a kickstand for better usability in tablet mode. If I want to use it with my own keyboard and mouse, I would have to keep its original keyboard attached to prop it up, which seems kind of dumb. I mean why didn't they just build a kickstand into it? So anyway, here's my wish list:
Any suggestions? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Grad student looking for light-weight, small laptop ~$500, US Posted: 01 Jun 2019 03:42 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: ~$500; US
No, mostly school work and streaming
-Reliable build quality is important because I'll be carrying it a lot around campus. -I've mused with the idea of taking up digital art as a hobby but I imagine it'd be in my better interests to use a drawing tablet instead of a touch screen, but then again I don't know how good touch screens generally are on laptops. -Also the memory doesn't have to be huge but preferably above 32-64gb.
Thank you so much!! [link] [comments] |

Hi everyone! Photographer looking for a new laptop in 2019 Posted: 01 Jun 2019 07:08 PM PDT Hi there, I've come to seek advice about getting a new laptop in 2019. I've watched a handful of video reviews on the new 2019 Razer laptops, Dell XPS laptops, etc. and with so much awesome stuff coming out, I'm curious to see what you all would recommend. My total budget is $2,500 ideally, but would be ok going up to $3,000 IF it's really worth it. I don't care about the 2 in 1 form factor and good battery life would be cool, but not a necessity so long as I can get a few hours of use for when I'm on the plane. Weight is semi important, but I'd say 4 lbs would be my max. Thinness again is also semi important as well as I'd like to have it fit in my camera backpack. I'm open to Windows or Mac. But would love to go with Windows if anything can compare to a MBP in my budget. As for what I'll be using it for aside from browsing the internet, I'll be using Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, and Capture One Pro. I have no interest in doing video work whatsoever. I do like to play video games and would love to connect the laptop to an external monitor to game on when I'm at my home base. As far as game go I only play League of Legends and Fortnite, nothing too intensive and no plans to play anything else. So long as I'm getting 100+ fps, I'll be happy. I don't plan on playing those games at ultra settings anyways. Screen size ideally would be 15.6" as my backpack only fits up to that size and smaller screens aren't enough for me. I'd like to have a 144hz screen, but color accuracy takes priority over all else. I don't care to have a 4k display and 1080p is good enough. Since I'll be mobile a lot, I have externals to bring, but would like to have a 1TB ssd to minimize the stuff I bring around with me. I'd like to have something last me at minimum 3 years as well. Thank you all in advance! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Jun 2019 06:44 PM PDT Hi, I'm looking at buying a new laptop to replace my 10 year old Dell Studio. I wouldn't be playing games but would I be better off getting a G5 instead of Inspiron? They're about the same price. I need it for everyday use and for music/movies. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
2 in 1 for college? Going into Engineering Posted: 01 Jun 2019 06:43 PM PDT So I've been looking around a bit for a 2 in 1 laptop for college. I'm majoring in engineering, so the ability to use a pen with the tablet mode of my laptop would be very nice. Budget: ~$1500 USD, can go more if it'd be a good upgrade Weight and thinness: I'd like it to be rather light, but that being said I need it to be quite powerful as well OS: Windows Screen Size: I wouldn't want to go below 13 inches, wouldn't mind larger Program Necessities: I'm going into engineering, so I'm assuming I'll need to run designing programs like Solidworks Gaming: Only light gaming, as I'll have my desktop with me as well... And if this laptop can run Solidworks it'll be able to handle the games I want Specific Requirements: Good keyboard; I/O ports aren't needed that much, as I'll probably only have a mouse plugged in, if that; 16 gigs of ram would be very nice to have, or at least 12 so it could run Solidworks without dying Finishing Thoughts: I've been looking around at a few 2 in 1 laptops and the Surface Book 2 has caught my eye, it seems to fit everything perfectly if I go with the i7, as that also gets me a good GPU. I also looked at the Spectre x360 as a friend was telling me about how much he loves it, but reviews online have made me wary. Any thought about a 2 in 1 no matter the brand that fits my requirements would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance :) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 01 Jun 2019 01:19 PM PDT I am trying to get my little brother a computer for his birthday. I need a computer that can play Minecraft, with about three additional mods, without much lag. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, but I'm not a very tech savvy person, so I don't know what to get. My budget is $200 -$300, which I know isn't a whole lot, but I'm hoping there is something that fits these requirements. Thank you, and if you know of a computer please contact me! Looking for cheap gaming laptop for college Posted: 01 Jun 2019 04:52 PM PDT Price range ideally around $550-700. Nothing too intensive, as I need it for Overwatch and League while also being able to do some schoolwork. I've heard the Acer Nitro 5 and Aspire E15 as names being thrown around and was wondering what the differences were or if there were any better options [link] [comments] |
Posted: 01 Jun 2019 04:42 PM PDT Hey guys, I'm thinking about buying the HP Pavilion 15 core i5 8300h, it costs around $800 here in Egypt and the only alternative is the Lenovo IdeaPad 520 which is nowhere near as good. My only concern is about the Pavilion's single hinge screen, it look terrible for longevity and I don't plan on changing the laptop for sometime so I'm very concerned, what do you think? Should order the Pavilion from Amazon and take a risk or buy the Ideapad which has a 1 year warranty? [link] [comments] |
Lenovo Yoga 530 or HP Probook x360? Posted: 01 Jun 2019 04:37 PM PDT They both have almost identical specs (i5 8250U, 8GB RAM, 256 SSD, 2 in 1, 14"). I just want to hear your experiences with these models, or at least brands. Which one is better? I am a business student (soon graduating), non-gamer, I use my laptop for number-crunching in Excel, writing in Word, to watch movies and browse the web. Photoshop occasionally. Pls help! Thank you :) [link] [comments] |
Laptop for college and light gaming, hopefully under $1300 Posted: 01 Jun 2019 09:03 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: Preferably under 1300, USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Best specs for the money, although a good battery life would also be nice How important is weight and thinness to you? Fairly important, as i will be carrying it around campus Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. A 15 inch screen would be best Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Some light gaming If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Super light stuff, like the Sims, Minecraft, Skyrim, and Dragon Age. don't need anything too extreme, medium-low settings at like 40 fps would be fine. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I'd like the laptop to last all 4 years so a reliable build quality is a must. A good keyboard is also important I'm going to be a freshman in college for Computer Science next year and i'd like a laptop to last throughout college so a good build quality is important. I play games occasionally, and i like to write so a dedicated gpu and a good keyboard are also high on my wishlist. I was looking at either a Dell XPS 15 or a Thinkpad X1 Extreme but i think they might be just a little out of my price range. Thanks for all the help! [link] [comments] |

$400-$700
Weight is important. Around or under 3lbs would be great. With weight comes thinness.
Linux/Windows
12" to 14"
N/A, not required
N/A
Acceptable keyboard. Robust build.
I was eyeing on the Acer Swift 1 with an N5000, but it doesn't come with 8GB (or upgradeable) RAM. Light, long battery, sturdy. I could consider a Chromebook with the newer Linux support, but 8GB RAM is usually the deal breaker here (or 8GB comes with a high cost compared to alternative systems). [link] [comments] |

Looking To Buy For Schoolwork/Entertainment and Some Games, ~$500 budget range, USA Posted: 01 Jun 2019 12:19 PM PDT I'm looking to buy a laptop that I can primarily use for schoolwork mainly, some entertainment (Hulu, Youtube, etc.), and a little bit of gaming. I want to stress that gaming is barely a priority. So, while specs aren't too important, I still want something that runs smoothly. I won't be looking to buy for maybe one to two months and just wanted to start looking. I'm in the US and my budget is around $500. I would be willing to go a little higher than that but not by too much. Battery life isn't too important to me but something with at least about 5 hours would be nice. Weight/thinness does not matter in the slightest to me. Windows as an OS. At least a 15-inch display. Maybe bigger. There are no particular programs that I need to be able to run. A good keyboard and 2+ USB drives are desired. I like the idea of something that could be upgraded sounds nice in case I did want to do more gaming in the future, but that's not entirely a priority.
