How good is a basic 2018 13" MacBook Pro? Posted: 03 May 2019 01:06 PM PDT At my local store I can get one for about 1600$. I was earlier thinking of maxing out the RAM to 16Gb and the processor to the highest option but that makes it $1000 more plus have to wait for Apple to build one for me. I'd be using it to browse the internet, record and edit podcasts and do some programming (no machine learning ai). I am not a fan of multitasking, but if I'm programming I probably have an editor, a shell and a few browsers open. Seems plenty, but will it last me 5 years or will it slow down? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2019 01:04 PM PDT I own a 14in IdeaPad 720s 141KB and I really want to replace it's super glossy screen. Has anyone done this before and know where i can get a matte screen for it? Can i just replace the screen with any company matte screen or does it have to be Lenovo? Could i replace it with a 14in Yoga Screen? I can't find any resources about this [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2019 12:27 AM PDT I just received my 2019 Razer Blade 15. rtx 2070 9th gen. Intel i7 and 240Hz panel. One of the USB ports doesnt recognize my Samsung T5 SSD. The other two recognize it but don't transfer anything. They get stuck at 0 Mb/s. I've detailed the issues in the video below: I'm going to contact Razer tomorrow and see what they say. I feel it needs to be RMA'd as all drivers and windows updates have been installed and are up to date. Extremely disappointing Razer! I heard your company had quality control issues but this is ridiculous. We bought a 2018 Razer Blade 15 a couple weeks ago and the fans are already starting to wine in idle. A section of the keyboard also has much dimmer lighting than the rest and it sometimes goes out! Depending on my experience with this new issue on our 2019 model, I may simply go with another brand. This is not what you expect when you're spending over $2,500 on a machine! [link] [comments] |

The thing is if I buy a 4 GB stick and bring it up to a total of 12 GB will the lower GB stick work normal in dual Chanel with the 8 GB stick , or must I buy a second 8 GB stick ? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 May 2019 08:39 AM PDT I've been wanting to get a gaming laptop for a while now but since birthday is coming up my mom is allowing me to get one! I need help trying to find the right one. I wanna keep close to $1,000 because, it's still not my money and I dont wanna absolutely destroy her wallet. Also I dont want the computer to look too stupid, so try to factor that into the equation. But yeah, I'm open to what help you can give. :) [link] [comments] |
Budget Laptop for Basic Video Editing and Watching Movies Posted: 03 May 2019 11:31 AM PDT That's about all I do on my laptop is watch movies and browse the internet. However I want to edit video as well, basic editing, at worst 1080 @60s. I'd really like to stay under $800, I was spying the Acer gaming laptops with the 1050/1050ti since they are super cheap but I know the display isn't all that great. I know dedicated video and an ~i5 8GB+ are a better way to go so I'm looking for recommendations. oh, 14-15" screen Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2019 11:04 AM PDT Greetings! My zBook came with ECC 16GB RAM and a XEON E3-1543M. I'm having a hard time finding another ECC 16GB RAM stick to match what came from factory. However, I found this non-ECC 16GB x 2: https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16820232150 for $135. Will this work? It seems to have CL15 (don't know if that is important). I'm using the zBook for video editing and VMware while mobile so wanted to max it. Thank you. [link] [comments] |
Need help finding a gaming laptop 2-3k budget Posted: 03 May 2019 10:24 AM PDT I am looking for a gaming/coding laptop in the $2,000-3,000 range to replace my tower. I have done a little bit of research but it is a lot to take in especially since its been about 5 years since i've last looked at upgrading my computer. Here are some of my requirements:
I am also willing to build my own laptop but I have never done so before. I have already built desktops but the last one I built was about 5 years ago. Going over the 3k budget is also a possibility but it depends on what I am getting for the added investment. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2019 08:56 AM PDT I'm thinking about getting a Vivobook, and was trying to find an S530un model because that's the one I've looked at. I couldn't find this model to buy in my country, but I found one which looks the exact same, but has a different name, this one being the S530FN. What's the difference between them? What does the change in lettering indicate??? Any help would be greatly appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Am I doing something wrong? (Acer Aspire) Posted: 03 May 2019 08:49 AM PDT Hello, I bought an Acer Aspire A515-51G about a year ago and feel a bit disillusioned, to say the least. All app launches and context menus are really slow (~5 seconds - several minutes) and it can be really frustrating trying to micromanage all the processes going on so that I get a decent speed going. This might be a bit of a generic question, but does anyone have any tips to speed my laptop up a bit? System Specs: Any help is appreciated. Thank you! [link] [comments] |
Auto on Laptop when A/C power supply is connected Posted: 03 May 2019 06:49 AM PDT I have a HP Pavilion Notebook - 15-p207tx that i use as a media server. Its battery is completely dead and it is running on AC power 24/7. There are quite a few power outages where I am ans so I was finding a way to auto turn on the laptop as soon as power resumes. I am unable to find the Wakeup by AC option in its BIOS. The BIOS is fully updated to the latest version as well. Anything else I can do to make this work? [link] [comments] |
General purpose laptop. I am thinking of the popular Lenovo Y7000 Posted: 03 May 2019 06:39 AM PDT I need a laptop for general use. From the little research I've done, the Lenovo Y7000 seems like a good choice. Windows Decent gaming capabilities Good battery life My biggest concerns are:
Are there any laptops of a similar price range and performance that feature better speakers? Thanks [link] [comments] |
Considering buying a mid 2009 MacBook Pro for work (advice needed) Posted: 03 May 2019 06:02 AM PDT My boss is looking to buy an Apple laptop for the office. He uses iPhones for his work and so he would like to make use of the iCloud feature to sync his contacts and work data from his phone to the laptop remotely (he will not be in the office on a day to day basis). I am going to be the one using the laptop for light work such as internet browsing, Google sheets and social media management. I own a Samsung phone but I don't think that's going to be a majour problem - a slight inconvenience if anything. Is spending 600 euros on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro a bad idea? The one I'm looking at has 4GB RAM, 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo, 120 GB SSD and 4.0GB PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM. Is it likely to be super slow due to its age? Does Apple even bother with software updates for laptops that old? I'm open to suggestions on buying a serviceable MacBook on a budget. I have tried looking for refurbished and used ones but all the sites I have found are asking at least 900 euros for a post 2013 MacBook/Pro. [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 May 2019 03:19 AM PDT Hi!. I am looking for a decent laptop with the following configurations: - display: 17.3 inches, FHD+ - Intel 8gen CPU H- or U-series - 32 Gb RAM - lightweight - less than 2.5 kg - linux-friendly (Fedora or Arch) - Thunderbolt 3 I have the following options: - MSI GS75: as I read there is a bad history about MSI BIOS, not sure about Linux - Asus StudioBook S - looks promising, but not on sale now. - System76 Oryx5 - don't have Thunderbolt 3 All laptops above have a discrete GPU, but in general, I'me fine with integrated. For reference: now I have Asus ROG GL752WV and the main issue for me is a weight and size. Now I'me considering to change laptop and want something lighter, but with 17.3-inch screen size. Are there any options I've missed? [link] [comments] |

Do you think this cheap laptop is a scam? Posted: 03 May 2019 01:13 AM PDT I'm looking to buy a gaming laptop before I go off to uni and on the amazon pages of several of the laptops I'm looking at there are far cheaper versions being sold in the used and refurbished category. Alienware 15 acer predator Gigabyte aero Specifically these three laptops that normally retail for about £1600 are all being sold second hand by one seller 'TIKAMOON UK' for just over £400 It looks like a great deal and I don't mind buying second hand if it means that I have to replace some worn out parts but these are so cheap that I'm wary of being scammed. I've done a little bit of googling and I can't find anything about the company apart from what is listed on the amazon page. Does anyone have experience buying a laptop from this or a similar company and does anyone know how easy it would be to return the product for a full refund if it is faulty? [link] [comments] |
