Bloody gboard and its crappy autocorrect!!!

    Posted: 31 May 2019 07:17 AM PDT

OK, has anyone noticed recently gboard seems to have really crappy autocorrection or is it just me?

It's been fine for a while, but now it just refuses to correct certain words, seemingly at total random intervals. Frustratingly, when you then tap on the offending word, it suggests the right one... so it clearly knows what I should have typed (even going so far as to highlight the error), so why isn't it correcting it?

I've cleared the dictionary and the app cache but still it persists, words that blatantly wrong are not corrected but yet tapping on the word it immediately suggests the right word... just correct it for fuck sake!

No doubt i'll end up back on swiftkey again at this rate, as I seem to yo-yo between the two constantly.

    Looking for a Checklist app.

    Posted: 31 May 2019 06:38 AM PDT

I'm looking for a checklist app that I can check off in the notification bar and can automatically reset daily.

EDIT: Found something that can work for me, although it doesn't have lists in the notification bar it does have a widget which is the next best thing for me. App is TickTick

Looking for a touchscreen minimizer feature?

    Posted: 31 May 2019 08:27 AM PDT

Having a 6.5" s10+ screen can be a pain one handed. I already have a great one handed gesture shortcut app "swiftly switch pro" , but I was thinking how useful it would be if I could just minimize the interface area all together i.e. swipe or tap from a smaller scale on the screen without minimizing the size of the app or screen all together.

    Automate printing groups of photos

    Posted: 31 May 2019 08:22 AM PDT

    Hi,

I need to automate printing groups of photos on a page. Does anyone know of an app that can do that? Preferably, I'd like it to watch a folder and print the photos automatically when it gets to a certain number (8) of new images.

Is their an app where i can make a collection off my apps and mobile games.

I have multiple divices with the same account and different games/ apps. And sometimes if I delete and app i forget, than it would be nice if I can find it in my list.

The app that I'm looking for is like my movie/ game list/ collection. Or are their game lists where they also have the mobile games?

AndrOpen Office is worth checking out

    Posted: 31 May 2019 01:20 AM PDT

    AndrOpen Office

    What is it

It looks like the developer stuffed the entire LibreOffice OpenOffice desktop application into an android app via some kind of compatibility layer. Some improvements have been made to make it work with touch screens.

    Why use this one

    • This app only makes sense if you use LibreOffice or OpenOffice on your desktop machine
    • It is OpenOffice in an app. OpenOffice is extremely powerful. Honestly the rendering and editing engines are more powerful than any other android app available.
    • 100% compatibility with the desktop version of OpenOffice and LibreOffice
    • Unlimited free version (with ads), pay to kill the ads
    • The UI might not be so terrible on a tablet or ChromeOS device

    Cons

    • The UI is pretty bad compared to other document prep apps like Polaris. Since this is built on OpenOffice, you can customize the UI (hiding toolbars and whatever), but none of the options are geared towards phone-screens except for the custom touch-bar the developer added at the bottom of the screen. The custom touch bar allows you to emulate mouse input though, which is nice!
    • There are ads, but I think you can buy the pro pack to disable them (I haven't done that yet.)
    • Scrolling is weirdly painful. For large documents you should navigate using the search function

    Why not the alternatives?

The alternatives like WPS, MS Office, Google Docs, and Polaris have limited compatibility with open document formatted files and their UIs are laser focused on selling you some kind of cloud storage solution.

The LibreOffice viewer app is buggy to the point of non-functional for me, and it doesn't offer the same variety of input options.

I am not the developer and I was not paid to review this

Remote control just for text messages

    Posted: 31 May 2019 05:26 AM PDT

So, I have an old number that a few old customers still have and they occasionally give it to other people.

What I want to do is put this sim in an old phone and get alerted on my main phone when there's a missed call.

And ideally I'd like to be able to remote control the text messages so I can see texts received and reply to them from the old number

I've got an app that does this exactly. Only it doesn't do it very well. Sometimes it's great, other times it won't forward alerts until I open the app, which defeats the point.

Anyone know of any others? Looking at a few of the options I can find they're not Ideal because My spare phone with the old number is too old to run Google messages and it seems many of them use the web functions to achieve this remote texting.

    Android app templates questions

    Posted: 31 May 2019 08:04 AM PDT

    Hi,

I need an app made for a company but I know nothing about developing apps. So the first thought which came to my mind was how about I use an app template instead and then edit/modify as I need? Are there any reliable android app templates out there? How much do they typically cost? And from a rating of 0-10 how much of a headache will it cause me to do it? I mean there are lots of shitty gimmicky apps in the Playstore so it shouldn't be too hard right? Anyway, the kind of app which I need is a rather simple one. I have a relative idea of how it should look and how it should function. I now only need to work on the actual product. Thanks in advance.

[DEV] TickerIO: A minimal app that displays the julian date and local/zulu (military) times.

    Posted: 31 May 2019 06:50 AM PDT

During my deployment last year, I got annoyed with trying to figure out what the zulu time was for where I was deployed. I developed an app that would quickly show me the time and dates. We use these for our aircraft maintenance forms/logs.

Would love constructive criticism, overall feedback, and possible features.

Can't access my photos - "to continue, give Google Photos access to your photos."

    Posted: 31 May 2019 10:04 AM PDT

Every time I open the app, I see my pictures for about half a second, then this error message flashes up, with a prompt to enter settings. Yet Google Photos has full permissions granted, and always worked before. I haven't a clue what to do. I saw something on the internet about using a Google Admin account, but to be honest, I couldn't figure out how to get the bugger to work. Anyone had the same issue?

What is the best free planner app?

    Posted: 31 May 2019 09:26 AM PDT

I want one that actually reminds me through sound and vibration. Preferably one that can also remind me at multiple points in a day. Like, take pill, for instance.

Apps that let me monitor network connections?

    Posted: 31 May 2019 04:35 AM PDT

I have the original Pixel XL and I was hoping to monitor my network connection. My phone will show that is has full LTE connection and nothing loads. Also, at random times while on WiFi my phone will just decide that it won't load anything from the net as well.

I was hoping there was an app that would let me monitor what was going on. Something akin to GPS Status Pro.

    Thank you

What is the downside to deleting a firebase instance ID?

    Posted: 31 May 2019 06:09 AM PDT

I saw an option to delete my firebase instance ID in an app. What could be potentially tracked by firebase and what risk is there to delete this? Is it like a big Google tracking cookie?

    Android "Ultra Keyboard" app replacement

    Posted: 31 May 2019 05:53 AM PDT

I'm looking for a keyboard app to replace ultra keyboard. I have the apk, and it works most of the time and when it does go nuts, a quick cache clear usually works. But it's long been abandoned and need a replacement. I HAVE to have an app that corrects automatically, like when I type "ppl" it automatically changes to "people" with no extra effort from me. Any lightweight options?

But I can't find any application, or anything like that, anything I could use to "export" the conversations in real time, that's what I'm looking for, does anyone know if you have any application or anything that can help me with this?

Looking for a payment tracking app that has automatic SMS reminder capabilities (my friends borrow money from me and I need to keep track of them)

    Posted: 31 May 2019 01:59 AM PDT

Hello! I'm looking for just a simple debt tracking app that sends (preferably customizable) SMS reminders to my friends whenever they are due to pay (every 3rd of the month, in my case). I just need a simple app that doesn't require my other friends to sign up for the service (like what Splitwise does). Just a simple tracker where I can input recurring debts and press a button if they have paid for the month, and if they haven't, automatically sends an SMS reminder.

    Thanks!
