Xiaomi Xiaomi is disappointing from software and support standpoint

Xiaomi is disappointing from software and support standpoint

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 03:16 PM PDT

    Breaking software updates.

    Bunch of problems on releases.

They don't care about providing any new technologies, ArCore is on like 5 devices, camera2api on even less.

Compared some of the other brands out there, Xiaomi just stops caring about updating their phones, and even when they do update them, it's poorly done. You buy the phone, and that's that, don't expect any updates, anything new, which compared to some of the other brands is very disappointing.

It is kinda sad, I was recommending Xiaomi to many people, and there are at least 10 people who use Xiaomi based on my recommendation, and now I feel bad that I recommended it when they complain and ask me for advice.

And all the price hype, who the hell cares, when phone needs 2 months after release to work properly, and 2 months after every update because they broke stuff.

You bought Pocophone "flagship" and you get washed out screen which lags.

You bough Mi A2 "the great camera phone" and they don't enable camera2api (which google doesn't forbid: "This page describes the Camera class, which has been deprecated. We recommend using the newer class camera2") Google RECOMMENDS Camera2 API.

What they say about ArCore is even more important: "To certify each device, we check the quality of the camera, motion sensors, and the design architecture to ensure it performs as expected. Also, the device needs to have a powerful enough CPU that integrates with the hardware design to ensure good performance and effective real-time calculations. "

The bad support of Xiaomi seems like

    A. They don't care to support their phones or

    B. The hardware in Xiaomi phones isn't good enough

and we are left guessing. Neither of those options are good.

Let's read the posts, out of 50 hot posts

    7 software problems

    3 bricked phones

    2 asking for camera2api

    3 asking for custom rom

That's 10 people who have problems with updates. 20% of people!

5 people want better features and/or support which we solve by ourselves. 10%

I used 2 xiaomi phones, and both of them were disappointing after couple of months. They are cheap, but disappointing. It's like Xiaomi is going apple route where their phones are made worse trough software over time, but not intentionally.

Unless something changes I know my next phone will not be Xiaomi. They need to work on their software and support department more.

    Tl;dr: Xiaomi software support sucks.

Sorry for the rant, but I am sick of needing to unlock the boot loader on my phone and compromise it's security if I want any new features. AND with the new Mi A2 updates, USB debbuging and OEM unlocking must be activated because of the high chance that new updates will brick our phones.

Any clear + thin case recommendations for mi mix 3?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 07:31 PM PDT

Hey all! I've been really enjoying my mi mix 3, but don't love the case that came with it but I feel like I have to use it because the phone feels far too slippery when I go without! I'd like a case that shows off the ceramic back but I did some digging and thought I made an informed decision on what case to buy, but it turned out to be of pretty shoddy quality.

Does anyone here have a case they recommend? (bonus points for a screen protector too!)

    Cheers

Query about mi max 2 digitizer replacement

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 02:56 PM PDT

I have a mi max, dropped the fucker and cracked the digitizer I think (cracks up and down the screen but phone works fine otherwise). Is it possible to solely replace the digitizer or does it need to be LCD + digitizer?

    Disappeared icon, HELP

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 02:44 PM PDT

today I tried to install an app from the web, when I tried to download the gave the sign "this app may harm your device do you want to download it", as a complete dumbass I just ignored it and download it anyway. When I downloaded and it was installed my phone made that usual scan but didn't find anything on the app. When I tried to open the app, it opened and just said "this service is not available in your country" and I closed it. Then I dragged the icon ( A wrench icon, which was not what the app I wanted should had) on top but it didn't give me the unistall option but the app just disappeared and I can't find it. This concerns me because I gave permission to the app to use my storage SD and I have a strong suspicion that it was a virus (I scanned the phone with Avast antivirus which is reliable) . What should I do ?

Does the Mi Mix 3 have visual voicemail capabilities?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 02:43 PM PDT

I just got a Mi Mix 3 and use Red Pocket as my carrier. I had them activate Visual Voicemail but I don't see that option anywhere in my phone... Whenever I get a voicemail, I have to dial it. I've been talking to them through live support for so long but nothing has worked. Any ideas? I tried Google Voice but the voicemails don't seem to be going through to it...

    Mix 2S strange sound

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 01:00 AM PDT

    FYI,

I acccidentally turned on NFC on my phone and it took me two months to figure out where the f*ck that stupid ping was coming from as there was no indication that it was sensing another NFC card. I have a wallet case with my business card and my gym card, which has NFC and every time I opened the phone it started pinging like crazy.

Mi A2 lite - Recent apps menu

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 12:30 PM PDT

Had this bug a couple if times now, when you press the square button on the bottom right (UK) to bring up the menu to close recent apps, sometimes it'll appear as if there is nothing to close. When I know for a fact that there is, I'll have to restart my phone and when it comes back on everything that was open will appear there again.

Just wondering if anyone else has been having this and how to fix it.

I'm on February's security update if that makes any difference. (I'll update to March's later tonight)

Stable Google Camera version(s) for MI5

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 11:38 AM PDT

Hey guys I have been using the google camera port since the one for pixel 2 got ported and am now using a pixel 3 version from BSG. But from what i have seen is that there is no specific support for the MI5 eventhough there is for the one plus 3 which specification wise is pretty much the same phone. I wanted to know about versions that basically have pretty much all things up and running without any hiccups like slow mo and 60 fps video recording along with non buggy night sight. Any help is appreciated guys.

Xiaomi mi 9 SE global sanity check

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 12:06 AM PDT

    Hi!

So without official announcement i found some links on where I think the 9 SE can be ordered.
I'm a bit apprehensive when it comes to the word 'Global', as i think there sometimes can be a difference between global Rom and global Version, right?
Anyhow, I found a few links and was wondering, are these legit global versions with, for example, European bandwith bands?

Xiaomi Online Store AliExpress (I believe this is the official Xioami shop)
Mi Global Store AliExpress (I think this is a global reliable reseller)
And another store on AliExpress (This is just another reseller, not sure how reliable)

Can you share your thoughts on the above links?

SoC Temperature on Mi Mix 3 (AnTuTu Sensors)

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:57 AM PDT

So everytime i open AnTuTu i get this weird CPU Temp of like 51C or 56C or something, when I click Details I get the correct Temp. which varies from 35-45C, avg. 40C
this temp seems a bit High for SD 845 given it's efficiency and how the Mix 3 uses Thermal paste for heat dissipation. the phone also gets somewhat warm
i had an Honor Play and the MAX CPU temp was 42C, day to day was like 33-36C after like 2 games of PUBG.
    any thoughts?

Should I get the Poco F1 now, or wait for the F2?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:23 AM PDT

I have just enough money for the F1 atm, and the specs are enough for me. Would the F2 be a better bargain?

    Poco F1/Mi A2 - Call/Text Only Concerns

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 10:20 AM PDT

I started shopping for a new phone to replace my awful current one, and my biggest draw was the camera quality, with a concern following for coverage on calls and text. I have never paid for data on my current phone, but my carrier is AT&T, which offered me absolutely miserable plans otherwise.

Despite the limited bands for Xiaomi, the only real information I see anyone concerned with is the LTE/4G coverage, whereas minor usage of data for GPS or navigational queries is all I would need. Currently, I live in Georgia not too far from Atlanta, and I don't particularly have signal issues beyond my dying phone itself, but... I don't like AT&T at all, yet they seem to be the best option for support.

Would I realistically have no issues with connectivity with calls and texts foremost? I can deal with slow speeds when I choose to switch plans for data, but having unreliable communications is the deal breaker.

    Video stabilization For Mi A2

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 06:07 AM PDT

I updated from android Oreo to android Pie and i noticed the video stabilization went worst to non working at all, is there anyone have this issue as well? and does xiaomi aware of this? if anyone know how to fix this pls comment.

anyway i tried using third party 'open camera' that has video stabilization but it doesnt suits me, it always out of focus and focus feeding to blur. So all i did was record a video then stabilized it on google photos which is a pain and long processing time.

edit: Im aware stock camera doesnt support stabilization in 4k.

Question About Dual Sim - Second Space

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 09:40 AM PDT

At this moment i do have a Redmi 5 Plus for personal Use and i want to upgrade for a Xiaomi Redmi Note 7

On my work they want to assign me a personal number so my first thought was just use the 5 Plus for Work and Note 7 for Personal Use.

Someone told me that i can just use dual sim in the main phone and i thought it could be a perfect idea.

My real question is, Can i just use the Xiaomi Second Space and use each one for each SIM card?

Edit: Englist not native lenguage so sorry about that.

Mi A2 Bricked today after March Security update

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 09:38 AM PDT

HELP! My much enjoyed Mi A2 is stuck at the Android one screen after what I thought was a successful update last night.

Tried hard reset many times but it just goes back to the white screen. I tried FonePaw but that is only for Samsung. What tools are out there to help recover, otherwise I have a 5 month old phone that is dead. Is this a warranty thing? I'm in the UK and purchased a genuine new phone from ebay seller....
