    Xiaomi RNP7, Mi 8/9, or Poco F1?

    RNP7, Mi 8/9, or Poco F1?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:29 PM PST

    Hey all,

I'm looking at a new phone and can't decide between these 4. Currently using a LG G6 that is busted up.

    Requirements:

    • good battery life

    • good to great camera

    • stable, I don't mind flashing a ROM but I don't want to be on XDA every day

    • good enough performance for multitasking, I don't game though

Basically I use my phone to organize my life, as well as watch videos, Reddit, etc. I travel a lot so battery life and the camera are important. But, I don't need a 5000mAh if a smaller one is optimized and lasts all day.

What I can't decide is which of those to buy. The IR blaster is almost a selling point for me to adjust hostel AC, but maybe more gimmicky than anything? I don't use NFC ever.

Currently in Asia, travelling thru India later, but live in Europe and work occasionally in North America.

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 06:18 PM PST

Hi, I was wondering overall which ROM is better whether Lineage or Nitrogen, have to say that what I'm looking for is performance, smoothness, battery life and functionality.

Any tips for replacing the inner tube on the M365?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 08:57 AM PST

I saw an old post asking the same question but the OP resorted to just buying a solid tyre with no solution to this problem.

I managed to get the valve out by cutting the inner tube to bits but when it comes to putting a new one in its near impossible to fit cause the valve is so much longer than the space on the rim.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

What is the most stable Gcam port on whyred (Redmi Note 5 Pro)?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 08:09 AM PST

The phone is 2 years old almost, and it baffles me that no port comes even close to the mido variants, even though it is a stronger phone than mido.

Am I just looking in the wrong places?

Icon Issue on the MI A2 Lite

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 08:58 PM PST

So, I was messing around with my icon settings on my Xiaomi MI A2 Lite, and I chose the squircle shape (I guess that's how you spell it?). I recently updated my phone to the February security patch, and now the option to change the icon shape is gone entirely. Now when one of my apps update, it reverts back to the stock shape, a circle. Now my home screen has mixed icons, some are squircles and some are circles. It's really inconsistent and annoying more than anything. I've tried rebooting and that hasn't fixed the issue. I'm not sure if anyone else has encountered this problem or if there's a way to fix it. Any help would be appreciated.

Can we improve video and audio bitrate on the mi9 (media_profiles.xml)

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:51 AM PST

Question in the title. Is it possible to influence the video and audio bitrate and hevc recording by manipulating the media_profiles.xml file?

I know root is needed, but in my opinion higher bitrates would be viable especially for 4k60 and the sound recording.

I dropped my sony xperia xa1 ultra a week ago and usb c port was damaged, it feels like it will only charge when it wants to.

Are xiaomi phones compatible with T-mobile? There were some other phones that had features that may or may not function. Can you guys make me some recommendations?

Mi mix 3 or mi 9

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 12:41 PM PST

I wanted the mi 9, But my birthday is coming up and i need to get a new phone. Currently i have a busted up ip 5s, Budget is 500 bucks. I want a mi 9 but don't want to wait till April, also it is 600dollars.(i live in America)Before i was gonna get the mi 9, I was gonna get the mi 8 pro but now that i know the mi 9 is a thing i want the mi 9 instead. The things i want in the phone are wireless charging, face id and a good camera. Thats why i was gonna get the mi mix 3. How is it, does the sliding become a problem, does it wear down over time? I like the feature but i want it to last at least a year.

    Mi A2 Havoc OS

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 06:36 PM PST

How does it run, any huge bugs and did u run into any problems installing it? Also, if I were to install it, i wouldn't have to flash it again if there was an update would I?

    Also how's the battery life?

Considering flashing but idk if it's worth the risk since I'm a noob at this stuff. If i do decide to I'll ask for some help on Android discord and hope somebody is willing to walk me through it.

    RAM decrease

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 06:35 PM PST

I've been using my Mi8 for two months now, and (according to the app tab), I barely have 2gb of RAM left everyday. On the first weeks of usage I usually had like 4gb of free RAM.

I've only used 34 of my 64gbs of Internal Storage... Is this supposed to be like this?

Does the mi band 3 support alipay?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 12:44 PM PST

I'm in the UK but moving to China soon, and I've been told it's worth getting an alipay account. I've seen mixed things online but nothing recent, so does anyone know whether the miband 3 supports alipay? I'd rather have something on my wrist than get my phone out all the time!

    Thanks!

Xiaomi robot vacumn Gen 1, main brush not spinning?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 12:32 PM PST

I noticed a few days ago that that spinning part of the main brush snapped. (I'm guessing it jammed and snapped the main brush trying to free itself)

I swapped out the brush with a brand new brush, but the main brush still doesn't spin.

I also keep getting "Error 5, clean the main brush" even though there's no blockage.

Anyone have any ideas on what I can do?

Cant figure out how to flash back to stock after many attempts

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 11:51 PM PST

I'm on lineage os and xiaomi mi mix 2 but I installed it incorrectly. I'm trying to flash back to stock so I can redo this but I can't find a functional methods to get everything back to stock miui.

I've tried using the mi flash tool which keeps asking for drivers that are already installed, and the mi mix won't even appear on the list to begin with. Any ideas how to get everything back to stock?

Edit: After some research I discovered that anti-roll back has been enabled so there's that. Trying to find the correct fastboot rom now in order to find rollback index of images as per xda forum

    Mi Mix 3 notification issues

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 06:20 AM PST

I've just yesterday gotten a Mi Mix 3 and set it up accordingly, and I'm finding MIUI okay as a whole except for some issues with notifications I'm having. Basically:

    1. Some apps that send push notifications will only send them to the notification shade. No notification icon, no pop-up alert, no lock screen notification (more on that later), no sound, no vibration, no notification light. This is all completely independent of the notification settings of the app. I can turn everything on and it still won't show. Some apps show fine, such as discord and messages, but they still won't show on the lockscreen:

    2. No notifications showing on the lockscreen at all. For apps that do send notifications, only the sound and notification light will display when I receive one, but checking both the lockscreen and notification shade whilst the phone is locked will show me nothing until I unlock it. This is while "Lock screen notifications" is enabled in the app notification channel.

    3. No per-app notification sounds. This is most likely less of a bug and more of a missing implementation, but since this is a base Android feature now is there alternate way to enable these?

    Settings specific to these issues:

In "Lockscreen & Password / Advanced Settings / On Lock Screen" the phone is set to "Show all notifications and their contents".

In "Lockscreen & Password / Notifications" it's set to "Show Animation".

In "Notifications & Status bar" "Show notification icons" and "Show on lock screen" is on.

MIUI version is fully updated at 10.2.1.

    Anyone got any idea?

    Many thanks

EDIT: Strangely, by going into the app notification settings and changing the settings off and on again it seems to have fixed the first two problems? At least for a couple apps I've tested (twitter and discord). I've tried with another app called Push Notifcation Tester and this has the same 1. and 2. issues. I'm not sure why but as long as the important stuff is working I'm not too worried

However, the third question still stands: Is there a way to get app-specific notification sounds in MIUI 10?

Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite notch problems

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 11:06 AM PST

So, i recently bought an Mi 8 Lite and i'm amazed so far, but i have one small problem. When i started using it, everything was fine, but after 3 days i did an update on it and started having a problem with the notch, more specifically on WhatsApp. The notch overlaps the images and even the names of people in their statuses. I tried tweaking with it a little bit but nothing seems to solve this, and it wasn't like this before the update. Can anyone help me? I'll link the images so you guys can see what i'm talking about.

Camera not working in redmi note 5 pro(whyred) after flashing AEX

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:16 AM PST

I flashed my device with AOSPExtended and installed GApps v9.0. I also enabled camera2api(verified using manual camera compability) by changing in build.prop.

So far, everything has worked great except for the google camera. The camera for in-built apps or third party seems to work fine. I tried installing pixel 3 camera and MGC_5.2.0(suggested at many sources), but no luck with either of them.

Update: I installed the stock mi camera and it works perfect. I downloaded a modded version(Gcam_5.1_Pixel2Mod) which opens up, but I can only record videos while the camera part is blacked out. I'm assuming this might have something to do with camera using camera2api only?

Is there and solution to this or maybe similar alternative camera apps?

Redmi Note 5A Oreo Update (ugglite)

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 06:22 AM PST

I want to talk about the Oreo update for ugglite (if anyone has it)

This discussion hasn't progressed in some time and I'm really uninformed.

Right now I am on MIUI 10 9.2.28 and it claims that it has no updates.

My sister has a Redmi 5A and it already has Oreo installed. Many Xiaomi phones have gotten the update and the ugglite is marked as eligible (as much as I know 4th generation won't be getting it).

My MIUI version is stuck there and nothing new comes out.

I'd gladly appreciate if you have any info about beta packages Maybe message me a link (if you want to). MIUI Forums and XDA are not really helpful.

If I find anything interesting I'll post it in the comments.

If I didn't provide enough info for you, ask in the comments.

Is installing a custom ROM really necessary or optional for newly bought phones?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2019 10:00 AM PST

Does it also void your phone's warranty? I recently bought a RN5 Pro for my brother couple of months ago and didn't bother installing a custom rom. And now I'm just waiting for the global version of RN7 Pro so I can get one for myself.
