Google should let us default to the upcoming tab in Google Feed Posted: 02 Mar 2019 01:32 PM PST The news feed has become almost useless, sometimes giving me 11-year-old articles and random stuff that I don't care about, only in the name of serving you content with ads in it to make money. I'd rather just use the Google News app. However, the Upcoming tab is super useful, and is far more warranted to be the default page from a usefulness standpoint. [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:14 PM PST There are many alternatives on Aliexpress and I'm sure there will be more and better ones once the phone is released. Charging $50+ for that screen protector is crazy. Currently there are many aliexpress sellers with a liquid tempered glass protector (cost around $3 to $16), but there are 2 main issues I have with them: 1) The screen protectors don't have the hole punch yet. 2) Many of the cheaper Aliexpress alternatives might be dangerous to apply since they don't seem to include protections for the holes on your phone. The liquid glue shouldn't spill into those, it might break your phone! To be entirely sure that those on Aliexpress will work and that they're also of good quality my advice would be to wait it out. Just wait until people get the phone and until some popular youtubers begin to try the chinese alternatives. Don't pay the $50. EDIT: Just to be clear, I'm not talking about the liquid that you can rub on to your phone and then it magically becomes a screen protector after a few minutes. I'm talking about the ones like this overpriced one or like this cheap one. You're glueing the glass screen protector on to your phone basically. But currently, I recommend neither of these. Just wait for a while until better and cheaper ones are released. [link] [comments]

Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:48 PM PST Sony Xperia Z5 was the first phone to feature a frosted rear casing in 2015, with OnePlus 6 and Google Pixel 3 following suit. Tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts the iPhone XI will also have a frosted glass back.
I personally dislike glass backs but I think frosted glass is the "lesser of 2 evils". My favorite material for casing is the matte plastic on Sony's Xperia XZ2 Compact with the matte aluminium of the iPhone 7 coming in a close 2nd. (Then again, I've never experienced wooden/leather/ceramic casings IRL) [link] [comments]
Posted: 02 Mar 2019 02:43 PM PST It's not the best, but it's better than being blinded by that dazzling white in the middle of the night. ;D You need to have tasker and be rooted. Create a profile with an app trigger, select gmail from the list. For the enter task, create a run shell with its command being settings put secure accessibility_display_inversion_enabled 1. For the exit task, just change the 1 to 0. [link] [comments]
GBoard should have the text completion prediction from Gmail Posted: 02 Mar 2019 07:11 PM PST The new predictions in Gmail which can suggest complete phrases are scarily accurate. It saves so much time. I'd love to have that everywhere via GBoard. I think Google will do this in time, I hope, as they start using their massive AI in more products. [link] [comments]
Caution: Keyboard gone after update! Posted: 02 Mar 2019 04:56 PM PST To all SwiftKey users who stumble accross this post: Do not update your SwiftKey app at the moment; or be at least cautious... Today I updated several apps on my Android 9 Huawei Mate 20 Pro (non-rooted), among them also the SwiftKey application. After this update my keyboard was gone, completely. Unfortunately I had the great idea that this could be solved by restarting my phone. But after the restart, when asked for the password (the entering of the pin worked fine; there was a numpad) there was and is no keyboard to enter anyting. i.e. the password. This issue renders my whole device useless. In addition I have no clue on how to solve this and even if I did, I wouldn't be able to access my phone in any way (I think? Because even a connection to a computer would be denied without allowing USB debugging...) - e.g. update SwiftKey again. SwiftKey is the stock keyboard of the Huawei Mate 20 Pro... I'm not asking for support, just informing the community. (Any help is greatly appreciated, though... :) ) [link] [comments]

(Idea) Cursor gesture for reaching corners Posted: 02 Mar 2019 05:14 PM PST Hold down back button to make a cursor appear in the middle of the screen. Now, controlling it from the bottom of the screen, you could easily reach the upper sections of the screen and then let go to click. [link] [comments]
Xperia 10 Plus camera samples and more impressions Posted: 02 Mar 2019 01:31 AM PST Camera megapixel ranges are: 4:3 (12MP) 16:9 (9MP) 1:1 (9MP) 21:9 (7MP) There's 2 copies of images that appear zoomed in, less detail and have a blue-ish tint to them, that is the 2x optical zoom. My cat is low light-ish sample. That zoomed in plant is Macro, not Bokeh. Im struggling to get a good bokeh right now due to it needing a lot of natural light and favourable lighting conditions so I will try to get one soonish. I like this camera setup more than my XZ1. There is better and more vivid colour reproduction, as you can see with the beach shots. Although the megapixel count is less than my XZ1, the processing seems to be better and does not look like a watercolour painting when zoomed in. That appeals more to me. I reckon the Xperia 1 camera will be ridiculously good. 21:9 is good for capturing a lot of the scenery, kind of like the LG G6 wide angle feature in a way. Taking pictures can be hard due to the hand accidentally pressing on the screen due to low bezel and closing the app, so it's best to hold the phone the other way round. Other notes: -For gamers, I've only tried PUBG and it sets to the low setting, but runs smoothly. -low bezel means keyboard is lower and I keep pressing the wrong keys so I have to get used to it -People say it's a tall but really nice phone -Screen is really good -Performance is too -Side sense is a tad annoying, it acts as a back button if you swipe on it -Battery life is bit less than XZ1, but still decent for phone of this size -It chargers quickly -Ask me about other things about this fone 10 points to whoever can guess where I took these pictures (UK) [link] [comments]
