Can't Boot Windows 10 Installer via USB Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:36 PM PST Just built a new PC, all is going well, except I can't install Windows 10 via USB. The PC boots to the USB just fine and I see about 10-15 seconds of the Windows 10 logo with a loading animation underneath, but then it just fades to a black screen and nothing ever happens. I've tried leaving it sit for about 10-20 minutes and still nothing. Things I've tried:

Windows 7 activations dropping from random machines? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:10 AM PST For some reason random Windows 7 machines activated (years ago) with MAK key and suddenly they are dropping to unactivated state and they cannot be activated without slmgr /rearm, boot, slmgr /ipk xxxxxxxxxxxx & slmgr.vbs /ato. I heard there were some issues with KMS activations but these machines are activated by MAK key. Anyone else experiencing this? In our case the MAK used to activate these machines years ago is not anymore valid because it's from our old license agreement. We have new key today from new license agreement and this old key is banned by MS. But afaik existing MAK activations should never drop no matter what happens to license agreement. How long will a product key stay valid if it isn't used? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 09:21 AM PST My university allows students to receive one free Windows 10 product key, so I was going to grab that key before I graduate. However, I have no need for it at the moment, I was just getting it for when I'll eventually need it in the future. Will the product key expire if it goes unused for a certain period of time? Missing pdh.dll which doesn't allow me to install Spotify or other programs, also no Groove Music. Posted: 01 Mar 2019 11:00 AM PST Tried a lot of things including /sfc scannow, unable to restore pdh.dll and all other solutions I've seen are a bit vague or shady, some options recommend me to update my windows but for some reason, Windows Update hasn't been working recently, basically within the same time span as pdh.dll deleted itself, it fails with no clear discernable reasons, can anybody tell me how to best solve this? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:14 PM PST So I had a HDD with the OS on that. I took it out and replaced it with two SSD. Before I did this I created a USB restore. When I put the USB into the computer it works I click troublshoot and then I clock clean restart, then remove files, then I get an error that says can't restore files. I have no idea what to do now... I have no OS and the stupid Recovery USB is not working... [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:23 PM PST So my friend gave me a computer he made and I got it set up. However, when I tried to run the computer, it showed an error message claiming that it cannot install windows (my friend had wiped it completely before hand) I did manage to get past that by going into the command prompt, going into the registry editor, and changing the setting value from 1 to 3. While I may have gotten past that, it is now in a reboot loop. it starts up, says "Preparing", then a screen says "Installing Windows.. %64", and then it reboots. Is there anyway I can fix this? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 03:51 PM PST Hi all, I'm trying to change my current windows install from a dual boot (win 10 home on a partition plus a Ubuntu partition) into one single partition running win10. I can't use the create/manage partitions disk mgmt tool or diskpart as the partitions are not next to each other. Trying to kill the partition that separates the two I wanna merge gives me a "cannot delete virtual disk" error. Running the windows reinstall (media creation tool)never gives an option to merge or edit the disk option at all so it just reinstalls on the same partition. Anyone had luck doing this? I've read about some partition tools (ie easeus) but people claim those kinds of tools can't merge non-sequential partitions either. I'm pretty lost at this point. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Can't install Windows 10 on my new SSD Posted: 01 Mar 2019 03:47 PM PST I'm trying to Install Windows 10 on a 500GB SSD I just bought. I'm using a USB media install drive and I was selecting the drive I wanted to install it to and it said to convert it to MBR. So I clean it then convert it to MBR in the command prompt. I exit the command prompt and press the little "New" button to create a new volume. It creates the volume and under the "type" of the drive it now says primary. I hit next and it says "we couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one." How do I solve this? Edit: SOLVED, I changed my bios settings to UEFI only then it said in the windows installation that it wouldn't work with MBR so I converted it to GPT and it's working fine now. How to manually "nudge" mouse/pen cursor a few pixels? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 11:38 AM PST Is there any way, program, software, anything, that will let me nudge my cursor a few pixels to fix this tiny pen offset my wacom cintiq has? Calibrating it doesn't work at all, it's either bad or it over adjusts... I'd appreciate any help. [link] [comments]
Posted: 01 Mar 2019 03:15 PM PST I used winaero to create a login message but evidently I never set up an account, meaning I can't login because I don't know, or have, a username and password. I tried restoring to an older point but that, too, requires a password. As did a windows restart, opening in safe mode etc... Is there a solution? Or will I have to do the USB boot fix?my view [link] [comments]

What is waking up my computer every day? Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:06 AM PST
Wake History Count - 1 Wake History [0] Wake Source Count - 1 Wake Source [0] Hello, been trying to figure out what's waking up my computer from sleep every day. Rempl shell should be some part of windows update if my research is correct but i cannot figure out how to disable this. I've tried updating my computer as one of the search results suggests but nothing changed. I tried scanning my system with Windows Defender and it also finds nothing. Any suggestions? Am using Windows 10. Thanks [link] [comments]

My pc is protecting against writing every usb drive Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:31 PM PST Any usb drive I stick into any usb socket gets protected against writing. I have already tried going to diskpart and cleaning readonly attribute, but the problem remains. I can use the same usb drives normally over other pcs. [link] [comments] |
