I still don't get IPv6 - are there equivalents to class A/B/C address ranges and private IP address ranges?

I think the two questions in the title are what is confusing me so much right now. I've read a lot of guides/documentation/posts that contradict each other, I don't really know what is correct.

I simply want to expand my home network of 50ish devices to include IP6 so I can learn it, but I want to make sure I do it right. Or at least not very wrong.

Just got gigabit. Should I run hard lines to every room in the house?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:48 PM PST

We have a house full of gamers. We're looking at 2100 Sq ft with a brand new gigabit connection. Computers are only getting about 35 Mbps via wifi. So we thought that maybe we should just run hard wire the whole house.

    http://www.overtheairdigitaltv.com/hard-wiring-your-home-internet-streaming/

I found this guide and this is probably what we're going to use. I just want a second opinion on what reddit thinks is the best course of action. If the equipment they suggest is okay or not. Router and modem suggestions would be okay too. Unfortunately, the internet could only be installed in the master bedroom and the other 3 bedrooms are on the other side of the house. The wifi just isn't cutting it over there anyway.

Recommendations and suggested reading are appreciated.

Do I need to get a Ubiquiti router and gateway to use the UAP-Pro, or can it be the only Ubiquiti device on my network?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:50 PM PST

Edit: We have the UAP‑AC‑HD, not the UAP Pro

I have access to a Ubiquiti UAP‑AC‑HD and PoE injector. I was going to take it with me and install it as an AP on a network. I was told that there is no way to use the Ubiquiti AP without using an entire Unify network setup with a router and gateway.

    Is this correct?

Using VPN through router firmware. Local gateway and VPN router have same IP, access VPN router settings remotely?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:13 PM PST

Tried to cram it into the title.

I have an asus tmobile router at one location with pptp VPN enabled. The routers IP address is 192.168.1.1. I am at another location currently, and my router's IP is also 192.168.1.1. My goal is to access the VPN router settings from within the VPN. When I type 192.168.1.1 into my browser I am taken to my router here, not the one on the VPN. I am probably a dope, but what is the easiest way to access the VPN router remotely? Can I do it?

Something to place IN front of router for BW Monitoring?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:33 PM PST

I'm looking for something that could be put IN front of a router to monitor BW usage by day/ month/ etc. Any smart switches do this? Sort of like those "firewalls" on amazon like the bitdefender box etc, except for mostly just monitoring BW usage.

Just looking nice interface way to keep up with BW usage (would be nice to be able to use any router)

    Not looking to doubleNAT though.

Currently using an ASUS router which I LOVE the merlin firmware, but lately the router has been flaky, and to get something better is just a little over budget for what I need. I need a Router for a router not its fancy WiFi (I have AP's for that)

I've tried using SNMP in the past when I had my ER-X with PTRG but I did not like how it listed BW usage etc. And the other SNMP programs like Cacti I could never get them working correctly.

I've tried using pfsense, but I think its a waste on the power bill for me anyway, and the packages where not as simple looking as I wanted.

I've thought about going back to DD-WRT but years ago when I used it, it was not as stable as stock firmware on any router I tested it on.

Can’t connect to other wired devices on network, but in WiFi, I can, help!

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:33 PM PST

I just setup a Edgerouter X in my house. I'm Using comcast, and the reason i went from a AC1450 router to a Edgerouter is because i thought it was holding me up. I pay for 400 down and 10 up. Sadly, still can't get that. I max at 260mbps.

Anyways, not the issue, the issue is I can connect to either of my wireless access points and then remote desktop to my raspberry pi pihole. I can see the 192.168.1.200. But, when i'm on a wired network, i cannot see the pihole. I can see get to a seperate webpage hosted by a seperate raspberry pi. BUt, I can't remote desktop, and I can't remote in. I can ping both the piholes, but i can't RDP, or get to the 192.168.1.200/admin/index.php

Is there a firewall setting that's blocking my laptop from hitting those internal addresses? How can I check? What do you need to help me out? My config dump?

I made a little picture to show how my network is laid out. HERE

Oh, I should mention that my main switch (8 point standalone dummy) is connected to eth2. eth3 is 1 pi, and eth 4 is another pi. So do I have to somehow set it up so traffic goes between my ethernet ports? I thought my eth ports just acted like a switch because i didn't setup any vlans or anything. And if that is the case, why can I connect when i'm on the wifi, which is still on a seperate eth...

Any help would be great! Thanks!

internet is out for another week, got creative and fixed it!

    Posted: 28 Feb 2019 10:39 PM PST

So i moved in a new house, and my ISP still needs another week or so to connect me, I got creative with what I had on hand.

Android phone shares LTE via USB tethering to RPI which acts as a router which is connected to my old mikrotik hex gen2 which serves my network. I know I am doing double NAT but for 1 week I believe it's ok, as long as i don't want to connect to my server remote or my vpn...

The hex gen2 has a USB port which is undocumented/not populated, for a second I thought about soldering an USB connector but I didn't have the correct part on hand, and had to take the router to my work place since i don't have all the fancy tools at home; so this is why I'm using the RPI

    picture with the contraption

I know this is not really a question so I hope I'm not braking any rules :D

    /later

Since this might be useful to someone else here is the bash script that setups the RPI as a router https://github.com/arpitjindal97/raspbian-recipes I run a slightly modified wifi-to-eth-route.sh

    FlashRouter Privacy App Slow

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 07:01 PM PST

    • Netgear R8000
    • Kong DD-WRT v3.0-r37015M kongac (09/23/18)

Installed FlashRouter Privacy App per NordVPN and re-IP'd to 192.168.11.1. After a day or so of VPN connectivity, router crawls to a halt and connection is spotty at best. Load is ~0.8 across the board. Only way to snap out of it is to save new Startup commands as blank and reboot the router. Any tips on getting this awesome app to not eat my router alive?

Trouble achieving proper gigabit lan speeds over home network file transfer

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 03:09 PM PST

I have one pc out of 4 others that can't file transfer over my lan at gigabit speeds. All PC's are hardwired. All of the other pc's can move files over network shared folders at proper gigabit speeds. I cant move to or from this PC any faster than 35-40mb/s, where all the others do it at 100mb/s easy.

The PC in question has the following specs:

    I7 6700k

    16gb DDR4

    Asus Z170-A mobo

San Disk 480GB SSD and various other SSD's

Windows 10 Pro, (All other computers also on Windows 10 Pro)

    My Network Configuration is:

Netgear R6400 AC1750 router and also a Brash Networks 5 port 100/1000 Mbps switch

Other PC's connected the switch operate normally no issues file transferring at gigabit speeds.

Connecting this PC to the router makes no change with file transfer speeds limited the same way.

The files I'm trying to move are large several GB files stored on mechanical drives or SSD's both are the same transfer speed.

My network config works on all the other PC's just fine so I suspect its something on this PC but I've wasted countless hours and I cant figure it out.

    Things I've done so far:

Replaced the cable with brand new Cat6E cable (tried a couple) and tried various other working fine ones I had around the house no change.

Bought a PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet card, behaves the same way file transfers capped at 35-40mb/s.

I also bought a generic USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter and if it is plugged into the front USB 3.0 port on my case I can achieve near gigabit speeds 70-100mb/s. Both the mobo net port and the new PCI-E one are still capped at 35-40mb/s.

Updated drivers and rolled back to previous versions on all adapters in question, no change.

Tried disabling any energy saving options in the advanced section of the network adapters in windows.

Tried using Teracopy to move them no change still capped at the same speeds.

Reformatted Boot drive with a clean install of windows, no change with no other programs installed yet.

If there is any other info I can provide to help narrow the solution down I'm more than willing too.

    Do I need Docsis 3.1 if I have a 250 mbps connection?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:19 PM PST

    Hello,

I am switching to a new internet provider from AT&T, we are going to have a 250 Mbps connection, but I am going to be bringing my own modem. I have bought a Nighthawk AC1900 wifi cable modem router with Docsis 3.0 from Netgear and would like to know if it would be better to buy a Docsis 3.1 modem. I am completely new to this, any advice would be appreciated.

Multiple internet accounts, 1 home. Setup help

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:58 PM PST

I currently have two internet connections in my home. Each 100 mbps download and 10mbps upload, I have two separate wifi routers but only one cable modem. I've thought that I have been getting my proper speeds and it was as simple as that. But after running a speed test I've found that my modem is simply splitting 100 mbps download and 10 mbps upload between two wifi routers/accounts. I called technical support today and was told that I would need two mac addresses in order to have my two accounts running properly. I have two coaxial wall cable outlets in my home so I can have two modems if this is the only way to accomplish what I want/need. I cant seem to find such thing as a modem with "multiple mac addresses" like she recommended. Any help with how I can actually have my two separate internets like I'm paying for would be great.

My 5ghz network drops at seemingly random times. Any ideas why or how to fix it?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 04:32 PM PST

I have a netgear nighthawk r6700 rev 1. I honestly can't figure it out. I'll notice that my internet doesn't work and then I'll see that the 2.4ghz network is fine but the 5ghz network is down and I have to reboot the router to fix it. What's up with that?

Using my router to split the 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz into two different connections who cannot communicate with each other.

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 03:09 PM PST

Hi, I have a problem and it would be awesome if you guys could help me fix it. I have a TP-link router/extender setup with an internet cable to our main router. The TP link provides the possibility to split the network in a 5 GHz connection and a 2.4 GHz connection. I live in a building with quite some people. Me and my neighbor across the hall both have a Chromecast.

Since I only use the 5 GHz I decided to give him the password for the 2.4 GHz one. Thinking it would not let him access my Chromecast. Well lo and behold I was wrong and now we can both access each others Chromecasts. I can easily change the password or ask him to not use the WiFi anymore and I know he would, but it would be great if he could use the 2.4 GHz without seeing my Chromecast popup and vice versa. Is this at all possible with the router I got?

I got the TP-Link Archer C50 btw and it is connected through cable from our 'main' router.

    Thanks in advance!

Need help explaining to landlord/ISP that my internet isn't working and why it isn't, so I can get them to fix it. Please #HomeNetworking, you're my only hope here.

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 02:29 AM PST

I'm at my wits end here, so any advice is greatly appreciated. I just need to know what I need to tell the maintenance guy/help desk is broken so they can fix it. I assume somewhere there's a switch with a wonky arp table that needs rebooting, but I have no damn clue. I'm tired of being told it's 'my equipment' when it can't possibly be. It's seriously driving me insane.

    Backstory

I moved into an apartment complex (Lafayette, Indiana, USA) in December of last year. Internet was set up on the 12th. The apartment has a cable tv/internet package they provide which looks to be leased (or whatever) from Centurylink. From what I understand, this isn't out of the ordinary for large apartment complexes, but I digress. This means my only other option for 'wired' internet would be old school DSL.

I basically have been having a hell of a time using the internet since it was installed. I constantly get all kinds of issues with programs, usage, and apps regardless of which device I use, or how I use it.

All errors I get are related to DNS, or one offs like 'server not found' or 'no connection to internet'.

If I am persistent and continually retry things (F5, retry connection, etc) then eventually it will come up. Usually.

So, I call the landlord/maintenance dept, they take my name down, and eventually send some poor bastard over with their own laptop to 'do a speed and signal test'. The Signal is always fine. The speed test works too, eventually, because, again, if you hit f5 enough times, eventually the DNS request will go through, the page will load, and so on and so forth. The maintenance person takes this info, forwards it on to their 'help desk', and the next day or so I get info back from the maint guy who says "They said their stuff is fine, it's your equipment"

However, I have nothing but problems with pretty much everything except for Netflix or Youtube. Well, Netflix has about an 80% chance of working correctly, and Youtube has about a 60% chance of working. I will still have to refresh/retry. Everything else is stupid wonky.

As a quick aside, I have Youtube Kids set up for my daughter, which seems to work even less than regular Youtube. You ever deal with a kid wanting to watch baby shark and the fucker just. wont. play.? I'm getting a damn ulcer over here.

The funny bit is, whenever I actually do get something to finally connect (that isn't an online game), it works as normal. Speedtests are fine, downloads work fine, i can stream 4K UHD off netflix, etc. It's getting it over that initial hump of handshaking and whatnot that is the issue... mostly.

    Symptoms

    • Work VPN (Cisco Anyconnect) would constantly have problems or disconnect me. work computer

    • Various eLearning websites time out, can't be displayed, server not found errors. kids' school laptops

    • Unable to connect to various video game servers with various DNS or 'unable to reach server' errors. personal computer, PS4, Switch, android phone

    • Every app/program (except Netflix and Youtube, regardless of platform) has issues connecting to servers, calling home, etc. every platform

    • Some games, if they let me connect, are horribly laggy. Like old school 14.4 laggy. (packet issues?) PS4, switch, MMOs on personal computer

    • This likely affects a lot more than just DNS queries, but if I can't even resolve DNS, I feel like that should be the first thing I get working.

    Observations/Tests

    • This issue is intermittent/flaky. Some days at 3am, suddenly I get an hour or two of perfect internet. Sometimes it happens other parts of the day. But inevitably, it dies again within an hour or so.

    • Changing DNS server (either on the router, or manually editing changes at the local device) does not help. I can use google's or cloudflare's or even my work's DNS, and the issue still occurs.

    • Using VPN does not help. Using either my work's Cisco or NordVPN gives me the same problems. No I don't understand how that is even possible, but my gut says "some piece of their equipment is having serious bullshit problems"

    • This occurs even when connected directly to modem (even after doing flushdns, rebooting both devices, etc)

    • This occurs regardless of Router used, whether wired or wireless (Netgear Nighthawk, Google Wifi pucks)AKA: router isn't at fault

    • This happens regardless of equipment used. Fancy work laptop. PS4. Nintendo switch. Ps Vita. Ancient laptop. Fancy nerd gaming powerhouse computer. Fire tablet. iPhone. Android phone. all have the same exact problems (even if their error codes are different) AKA: my devices aren't at fault

    • This occurs even when modems have been swapped out(Assigned modem, Personal Modem, their loaner 'test modem') AKA: my modem isn't at fault

    • This does NOT happen when using my devices on OTHER internet, such as tethering, hauling laptops/switches/phones/etc to free wifi places like Mcdonalds or the in-laws. AKA: my device settings aren't at fault

    • This occurs both in my home, and in their 'clubhouse' area with their free wifi. AKA: So it's their fault, right??

    • PING tests: I may have to retry the ping test a few times, but once it finds a server/IP, it will run solidly. We're talking less than 1% (ran one test for over 500k packets sent, only ~600 lost)

    • NSLOOKUP/etc all will work... eventually. Can't look up stuff if you can't get a dns query through.

    • Download/Upload tests all are within normal range (2up, 50down) regardless of testing method, even with PS4s built-in tester (once the page or app gets loaded)

    • DNSBench looks nasty. Reliabilty of all DNS servers (yes, even the assigned ones!) are all over the place. You ever have a program tell you that both google DNS IPs and both Cloudflare's DNS IPs are down/unreachable/not responding to DNS queries?

    • Quick dips into Wireshark (specifically for DNS) show "Reply Code: Server Failure (2)" when trying to track down where these DNS queries are going.

    • Those same DNS queries (viewed through wireshark) look like they take foreeeever to go through with resend after resend.

    • PS4 network test brings up things about packet fragmentation (?) which suggests an MTU change. This seems to occur even after I reduce the MTU (iirc, 1470 is what worked to remove that error)

    • Every single communication to the 'ISP' has to go through the maintenance department, who then relays to the helpdesk via troubleticket/email, who then relays back to them, back to me. What this means in practice is that if I call in monday at 8am with a problem, I will likely not know anything back from the helpdesk until wednesday or even later. Yes, that means even my troubleshooting has crazy lag.

    • I don't know anyone here, and the few people in my building just aren't friendly types. I have no idea if anyone else is having problems, but gut instinct says they are. If they aren't gamers like me and my family, or if they don't watch anything besides Cable and Netflix, they could basically be silently suffering and not even realizing that there is a problem. "Internet is always like this, you know?"

    Summary

There is something seriously wrong with the internet I have at home, and it looks like it's affecting the entire complex. I can't get 'other fast, wired internet' here due to the rental/leasing agreements and such, but to be honest, I haven't looked up 'wireless' solutions much. I really just want this to work, and for them to fix it to where it works.

I have been throwing myself into this grinder of "Please fix -> (day passes) -> speed/signal test -> (day passes) -> response on 3rd day that 'network is fine, it must be your personal equipment'" thing since the 12th of December. I can't always be here the whole damn day waiting for the maint guy to show up, and he can't always come out when I need him to (and the issue is at its worst, where even netflix isn't working). And since I cannot speak directly with these helpdesk folks, all I keep getting back are first-page troubleshooting script shit like 'did he turn the modem off for five minutes and then turn it back on?' like the last 3 months of issues didn't even happen.

I'm pretty smart about networking and internet and such, but this thing has me so damn furious and angry I can't even think straight. I can't do work stuff, I can't do personal stuff. I can't even reliably entertain myself with this damn internet. I can't play Warframe, my kids can't do their fortnite crap or my little pony videos. Older kid can't do his eHomework. Shit, there are days I can't even Reddit. And I know this sounds dumb, but it seems like every time I complain, someone jiggles something, and when they come by, suddenly their speedtest.net thing loads on first try, when I spent the morning taking screenshots of errors where the page wouldn't load.

I experienced something similar to this what feels like decades ago, where it turned out a switch was having problems with an overloaded arp table, and just needed to be rebooted. The ISP (through the maint guy... he's even shown me printouts of the trouble ticket dialogues) continually bats it back with seriously lame low-level troubleshooting nonsense like "have him run a ping for 24 hrs" or "it's an issue with that router" when I didn't even have a router plugged in, let alone connected.

I have tons of screenshots of failed browser sessions, Nintendo Switch error codes, PSN error codes, wireshark bits, and dozens and dozens of DNSBench screencaps. I thought I was intelligent, but this issue has me stumped... but if you need me to try stuff to help you help me, I promise to pay attention.

So I guess this is what I need to know:

    • What can I test, check, run, etc on my end to 100% undeniably prove the ISP is having an issue?

    • What information can I give you to better help narrow down what the problem is?

    • What is, so to speak, the dang problem with this thing here???

    • Should I engage the corporate office (the one that owns/manages the local complex)?

    • Should I get a dang lawyer involved?

    • Should I just throw in the towel, lick my wounds, and find some sort of wireless thing or something to use for internet (for 5 folks who stream a whole hell of a lot of media)?

    Thanks in advance.

PS. if you need screenshots of stuff or whatever, let me know. I'll also try to edit this main post to help rule out stuff or point out stuff or whatever we find in here. Again, thanks tons.

    Router or Access Point?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 08:03 AM PST

My dad is currently using a router/modem combo from his ISP. He has a lot of smart plugs, smart speakers, smart TVs, Echos, and obviously the usual phones, laptops and tablets. When streaming video, there is often buffering (he only has a 20 Mbit line, but that should be enough for a 720p or 1080p stream right?) and the smart plugs and smart speakers are often not accessible as well.
Since he lives in an Apartment complex and his ISP provided Router doesn't have 5Ghz functionality, I thought maybe getting him a new one that can do 5Ghz would do the trick.
I'm now planning to use the old modemrouter as well, modem and (maybe) wired router.
My question is: would it be better to get an Access Point (like the Ubiquiti Ac Lite) or a router (dunno, what's a good enough one for under 100 bucks?)?

l2tp/ipsec vpn through windows build-in not working on one network.

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 06:20 AM PST

So I created my own l2tp/ipsec VPN server with Softether on my windows server 2012 r2 VPS. It works perfectly fine through windows build-in on my laptop on home internet. However when I am at school and trying to connect to the vpn it says: the l2tp connection attempt failed because the security layer encountered a processing error during initial negotiations with the remote computer

I can however connect to my vpn from my phone on the school internet. A friend of mine also has a l2tp/ipsec vpn and his one works though windows build in on the school internet. But he didnt configure it himself so he can't help me out either.

Does someone have an idea how to fix this problem?

Did the WIN7 February monthly rollup include KB4487345?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 05:57 AM PST

I was one of the users affected by the dreaded KB4480970 problems, with disappearing network shares, and my plan was simply to wait for the next rollup, thinking MS would include the fix in that.

I haven't heard anything about it, though, and there is no details about it on the respective KB sites.

    Anyone in the know?

How do I hide MAC addresses connected to a range extender?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:18 PM PST

I have a router provided by the ISP which I'm forced to use because of certain ISP-related proprietary features I cannot have with any other software or custom firmware, but I would like some extent of privacy, so I would like to use my OpenWRT router as a range extender and connect my wireless devices to it (LAN is not an option because ISP router have no LAN ports, it's a wireless router only). Is there a way to use my OpenWRT router as a range extender, connect my devices to it and let it manage part of the LAN with it's own secondary DHCP without the ISP router seeing MAC addresses of devices connected to it? (i.e. the ISP router must see all the traffic coming and going to the OpenWRT router as coming from one device, not many)

My router seems to be capping my new speed

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 01:08 PM PST

Recently upgraded 200 mbps with Spectrum, however all network speed tests with my PC and my mobile devices keeps reading it under 100mbps.

I have a Belkin AC1200FE Dual-Band Wireless Router. My PC has a wired connection to the router and all speed tests run it at under 100 mbps for downloads. Wireless gets me the same speed. I did the speed test without the router going straight to the modem and it'll get to 200 so obviously the problem is the router but I don't see where in the router I can remove this cap.

    Any help would be appreciated

is there a difference in quality of ethernet cable?

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:49 PM PST

    Hello,

I have a detached mini efficiency at my brothers house which i rent. I am trying to get internet to it since the wifi doesnt reach. i tried the power ethernet adapters but the speed is terrible (main house has 150mbps and through it i got 20mbps). I am thinking of running a really long ethernet cord through the outside and put a wifi router on my efficiency.

Few questions i have because on amazon a 200 ft shielded ethernet cable can cost from $45 to $150. is there a difference in quality?

also, there are cat6 cat6a cat7 that also vary the pricing. i am guessing i would be okay with a cat6 since the speed would only be 150mbps and the distance is arouns 100-200ft (not sure i will measure how much i will need tonight).

any helpful input is appreciated and here are the links i found for reference.

YouTube (only) is unusably slow on all devices across whole network, can't figure out why.

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:42 PM PST

I'm trying to help my parents troubleshoot an internet issue they're having.

They live in a rural and have CenturyLink internet with consistent speeds of about 6 to 6.5 mbps. They can stream netflix go online just fine. I can even play an XB1 online without issue. However, using YouTube on all their devices (Roku, iPhone app, computer browser) is insanely slow. Search results pull up just fine, but once you click the videos, settings default to 144p or 240p, and then the video loads about fifteen seconds before just spinning in a non-responsive state.

This issue is somewhat intermittent, which is even more troubling. I'd say it happens more often than not, and there's nothing I've found that indicates a pattern. Right now, for instance, the Roku and iPhone app are unusably slow, but this computer browser is loading things fine (all using the same wireless network).

Whether or not the issue is present, speed tests indicate steady, consistent speeds. I just don't understand.

Is there some sort of firewall issue going on? Or a traffic management thing happening behind the scenes in the router?

My ISP does not allow layer 2 traffic between clients on the same shelf/VLAN

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:31 PM PST

    Hello,

Disclaimer: I run a lot of services from my home. Nginx reverse proxy, SSL certificates, Plex, Radarr, Sonarr, Lidarr, WebDAV, gameservers, Mumble server, etc. I have zero problems on my end with this configuration.

My ISP does not allow layer 2 traffic between clients on the same "Shelf/VLAN". I discovered this because someone in our friend group could not access my Mumble server. Upon closer inspection, he could not access anything on my network. After doing a bit of research I presumed that our ISP was to blame so I asked if they could allow this traffic. Here is the response I got from my ISP.

    "Hello, Nick.

I shared your trouble ticket with our network engineers. We analyzed your service and don't believe we can offer a solution in the current configuration. In order to support this, we would have to modify the L2 security settings for all residential users on your shelf/VLAN. As a residential customer, this is not the best course of action. In order to assist you with server-related connectivity, you would need to purchase a business-class account. This would be the correct account setup for individuals running servers and services for other individuals on our network.

I would be happy to get this process started with our Customer Service department, if you would like."

Do any of you fine folks know what I can do to circumvent this? VPN is not out of the question, but is also not ideal. When I researched this before, at least one person felt that Layer 3 traffic should not be affected, but my understanding of networking is much more r/homelab level and much less enterprise level.

Also, I would not be opposed to a business connection, but I currently pay $65/month for 900/50 and would not like to pay $200+ for 100/10. I would sooner pay for my friend's VPN service than lose this bandwidth.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

Trying to get into MoCA networking

    Posted: 01 Mar 2019 12:15 PM PST

So I think I understand the overall concept and setup but am wondering if it requires me to have cable (ex: DirecTV or Comcast).

All I have is the coaxial outlets. One downstairs connected to my modem, and another in my room (which for some reason does not work when i tried to move/connect my router upstairs to where my PC was).
