This issue is making me go insane

I have a laptop that is capable of doing lite gaming. I think I've had this issue before on it and I was able to resolve it somehow once, but since then I reimaged it, blah, blah blah.

Specifically it's the ASUS K401LB. It's got an integrated Intel GPU and a GTX 940M. Specifically I'm looking at League of Legends. I have forced it to use the High-Performance GPU in Nvidia Control Panel, forced v-sync off globally in NCP, and have it turned off in game obviously. Additionally, I've got Game Bar off, and Game Mode off (Win10-1809) and running League with "Fullscreen optimizations" explicitly disabled.

I didn't really know about the Fullscreen Optimizations thing because I usually don't go out of my way to adjust every little setting for FPS, but I thought it might be the issue here. As far as I know, if Fullscreen Optimizations were truly disabled, I wouldn't be able to see the volume slider over League when in fullscreen. Despite being disabled, I see the volume bar, and when I spam the bar up/down, my FPS shoots up in League from a hard lock at 60 to 200. When I stop spamming volume, back to 60.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Problem with Bluetooth headphones freezing my computer's audio.

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 11:58 PM PDT

Windows 10. I tried updating the driver using Windows Update and it said it was up to date. So then I manually looked up the driver and installed the newest version. Still every once in a while when I connect my Bluetooth headphones they won't work at all. When I unpair them I also can't go back to my USB audio interface that my monitors are connected to, I have to restart the computer. Also sometimes the Bluetooth won't show up altogether, I have to restart my computer to even have that option to show up in the sound settings. I have no idea what might be causing this since it doesn't seem to be a driver issue. And it only happens occasionally, usually if I haven't restarted in a few days.

High ping on my pc only, everything else is fine

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 04:00 AM PDT

Tldr: I have high ping on my pc only, I've tried everything to lower it from my service provider to factory reset. Can it be hardware?

Right my pc is suffering from really high ping, around 300ms. This isn't a housewide issue as my ps4 and phone are fine. We've tried replacing the router and the telephone point that connects the router. I've reset my pc to factory settings so I know it's not a software issue. I've cleaned out any bit of dust from inside my pc so I'm sure that can't be the problem. My network card is a Qualcomm atheros ar5b125, could this be the source of my problem? Another source of issue is the ping gets worse when someone on the opposite end of the house connects to Wi-Fi.
If anyone can help with this I'd really appreciate it, I'm pulling my hair out over this.

    Horizontal lines flash across monitor

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 12:08 AM PDT

Bought a used monitor a while ago. Since I've owner it horizontal lines flash across the screen occasionally. When I press the HDMI cable back in to the monitor itself they stop for a while. I'm wondering if the only issue is connection and there a fix, or its something a little more

    [Update] g403 logitech mouse issues

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 03:37 AM PDT

    I posted this:

I have Logitech G404 that seems to have crapped itself.

    • Intensely laggy if i unplug it from the wire
    • Massive input lag when playing Overwatch
    • Seems like my sensitivity is MUCH slower
    • Generally slowly responsive.

I have updated the drivers (not sure if properly) and tried multiple USB ports.

Now - i have additional information which is - when i enter into my Logitech gaming software and adjust the polling rate from 1000hz to 125hz - it helps, sort of, by which the mouse sensitivity literally gets higher when i drop the polling rate.

    Is this a CPU issue??

Advice on recovering a failed HDD?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 02:58 AM PDT

Hi there, I want to seek out some advice on my failed Seagate 2TB HDD. It contains my files (photos, documents, everything) from the past 6 years and just failed today. here's what happened to it:

    1. I never had any issue with the HDD for the past 6 years
    2. The HDD dropped onto the ground once while I tried to clean the dusk in my desktop case last week
    3. It then worked perfectly fine for the past few days after the drop, during which I used it heavily to back up my other smaller SSDs while reinstalling my Windows, so a lot of clones/wipes happened (at least few TBs of data in total I'd say)
    4. Today when I was trying to wipe a partition again using Windows disk management, it took the disk management a few minutes to finish, which is the first time I've seen this issue, but it was done and I didn't give too much thought of it
    5. After the wipe was done, I then used WizTree to analyze another partition to see what data I have there. It took a few minutes too, then after it was done, I received a windows notification saying something like "IRST supported drive disconnected"..., and all the partitions of this HDD disappeared in Windows
    6. I tried to reboot , then I got into the startup loop, it just won't boot into Windows. The HDD is still showing up in the UEFI tho...

Now there are few things I can try:

    1. Unplugged the HDD from the motherboard (the system is on another SSD), boot Windows, then plug it back in once Windows start
    2. I also have a 2-bay Hard Drive docking station, which can clone one drive to another (something like this: http://www.idsonix.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=58)... the product itself says it can be used to recover data, but I've never done it before) I can buy another 2 TB drive and try to clone to it? Or... I can try to plug the bad drive in and connect this to PC via USB and try to read it?
    3. Send the HDD straight to a data recovery service (based on some google, it's at least $800 out of pocket??)

I haven't try option 1 or 2, as I don't know if it may cause further damage to the drive, or even fry it?

Should I try 1 and 2 first, and send it to a recovery service if they don't work, or should I just go straight to a recovery service?

    Thank you in advance!

I think my pc might have a power problem, please help.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 12:36 AM PDT

Hey guys, I have been losing my mind over my newly built pc atm.

    Specs first:

    • Intel i7 9700k
    • MSI RTX 2080
    • Asus ROG STRIX Z390F Mobo
    • 16gb G-Skill Trident Z Ram
    • Corsair RM750x PSU
    • BeQuiet! DarkRock Pro 4 Cpu cooling
    • Coolermaster C700m Case (I know its dumb but I wanted it :P)

    Running Windows 10 Pro

Drivers, Bios, etc. all up to date.

When I finished building it, it would keep restarting itself with no error messages when under stress, so logically I assumed the PSU was faulty, but when I exchanged it, it wouldnt even start. The PC would be stuck at the white VGA light on the motherboard, right before the boot. Sometimes, after some waiting, as soon as the fans went a bit slower, it would boot, but be suuuuuper slow, freeze up a few times and then freeze entirely.

The weird thing is; I disconnected all the Case RGB lighting and the case fans, disconnected any unnecessary peripherals and TADAAA, it started and was running smoothly. Then I started reconnecting all the peripherals and watched my FPS steadily go to shit. When I reconnected the RBG lighting on my Case it started once, but froze almost immediately (same as mentioned above).

Also, worth mentioning is that when I borrowed the exact same PSU, just in 850W from a friend, it worked without a hitch, which, IMO rules out the possibility of the GPU being shot.

Currently, I have my GPU disconnected, everything else is in and working fabulously. A less power-hungry gtx770 also works fine on both PSUs.

I have heard about a case where the amperage of the psu wasnt enough, however I struggle to believe 62,5 amps can not be enough for a system.

    THINGS I HAVE DONE:

    • Reinstalled Windows
    • Reinstalled ALL drivers
    • Change the GPU: less power consumption -> profit
    • Disconnected and reconnected all peripherals one by one -> Case RGB and Fans kill it.
    • Stresstest the system without Case RGB, Fans and peripherals (besides mouse and keyboard -> Runs flawlessly.
    • Rebuilt the entire system, changed around the connectors in the Mobo -> No avail.

This entire thing is immensely frustrating, not just because a 750w psu SHOULD easily be enough for my system. I heard about a similar problem from a friend with the exact same symptoms, which turned out that his PSU didnt supply enough juice, but I am still sceptical. I am going to check if a nearby store has a stronger PSU so I can try swapping and give updates.

Terrible black colors/color banding on Acer predator xb271HUAbmiprz. Is this normal?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 02:04 AM PDT

I have an Acer predator xb271HUAbmiprz. The monitor has been pretty good, except when I play darker content, especially in Youtube videos (but also ingame cinematics or even gameplay), dark areas look absolutely terrible.

For reference, I took two pictures of my screen while playing this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uD4izuDMUQA&t=397s .

There's lots of space in the video, so lot's of blacks. Here's what it looks like:

    https://i.imgur.com/SjqezTY.jpg

    https://i.imgur.com/jag7b44.jpg

And this kind of thing is happening all throughout the video. Not that bad all the time, but a lot the time it is. Also noticable when I check out a Star Wars trailer for example. I checked the same video on my 4K tv and it has none of these problems. While I understand a 4k TV will probably have a better image quality, is it normal that the difference is so large?

Is this something unavoidable? Or is the monitor faulty? It's not unplayable, but it does bother me a lot. After all, what's the use of a nice GPU when your image still doesn't look great?

    Fiber optic?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 02:00 AM PDT

I just moved into a new apartment building and they have the whole place wired for fiber optic internet. I'm trying to set up my internet, but my router's cable won't connect to the wall outlet. I was told I don't need a modem for fiber optic. Do I need a whole different router, or just a converter for the cable? I tried googling it and got nothing helpful. Any advice? My router is a TP-LINK AC 1750. Thanks!!

I've been trying to figure out why it might be the case for hours now, any help is much appreciated.

    Things I have:

    - I can ping the school server (server01.xyz.edu) with all attempts being successful

    - I'm in the school network

    - I actually can SSH to the network using Putty when I'm on Ethernet, but on WiFi, it doesn't work.

    - Both SSH and Telnet fails (only on WiFi), both using Putty and CMD.

I'm receiving a "connection timed out" error. Any ideas?

    PS4 lag

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 12:33 AM PDT

I have serious micro stutters when I play Fortnite on PS4. I've rebuilt the database numerous times. I have a laptop cooling fan. I'm hardwired. My ping is fine. I've initialized the PS4. I've deleted all other games. Could it be because of a faulty HDD? It can be smooth on some occasions. Most of the time it's unbearable. Someone please help. Should I purchase an SSD?

Windows 10 gets stuck on Logo with spinning dots

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 04:04 AM PDT

I upgraded my PC from Windows 8 to 10 almost a month ago and it worked just find until a couple of days ago my PC started to get stuck on the Windows 10 logo and the spinning dots also freezed. Other problems like restarting after login screen and during playing games also occured, so I reinstalled Windows 10 and this time I formatted the main Windows partition. I installed latest and older version of GTX 750ti drivers thinking that maybe they were causing the problem but after a couple of boots the problem is occuring again.

I've already tried using the "Fix Startup" option and a bunch of other stiff stuff but nothing has worked for me. Any help would be appreciated.

A loud sound coming from my pc when I start it up.

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 12:15 AM PDT

As the title suggests, 80% of the time when I turn on my pc, I get this loud spinning sound, I think, and it just keeps going until I turn my pc off or it stops when I get to the log-in screen on the win10, or it never gets that loud in the first place. I think it might have to do something with my psu, but I'm not sure this might just be something because of aging, but I don't really think that could be applied to this hardware that I have for almost 3 years now. And yes, I do frequently clean my pc which is twice a month. This only started to happen a few weeks ago.

    Full hardware:

    PSU: 550W

    CPU: i5-4460

    GPU: GTX 950

    RAM: 2x8gb

    HDD 1 tb

    SSD 120 gb

P.s I'm very new to reddit, so I might have broken a few rules while posting this.

    Graphics card not being recognized!

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 03:55 AM PDT

So basically I got my computer about a few hours ago,After not having it since December. I was using it normally and it was working fine, until i decided to play this game called Ashes Cricket. While opening that game my PC randomly shut down and within 10 seconds started to boot up again. This happened a few more times, and in the middle of a game in FIFA 19,it shut off. On googling it said something about overheating, but my GPU wasn't overheating at all,and it was around 60C.

I then opened it and and cleaned a few fans and cleaned the meshes and put it back together. on trying to start it up again,my monitor was giving me 'NO SIGNAL'. I opened up my PC again removed and inserted the GPU and the connector. Now the thing is i know its not dead, the fans are spinning and the little white light is there. On checking device manager i couldn't find my GPU. These are picture of my PC and a close up of my graphics card and my device manager. Please help me in solving this issue.

    Thanks,

    Warm regards

    SSD on sata 2?

    Posted: 30 Mar 2019 03:48 AM PDT

Hello everyone, I need your help.

I need a clear answer to my fuzzy question.

So, my PC now has a 1 TB hard drive TOSHIBA HDWD110 ATA device (1 TB, 7200 rpm, SATA-III)).

    Motherboard -Gigabyte GA-G31M-ES2L v2 (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 2 DDR2 DIMM, audio, video, Gigabit LAN).

I want to put an SSD and install Windows 10 on it.

However, I heard that this may not work properly, because I have an Intel (R) 82801GB / GR / GH IDE controller (ICH7 family), a Serial ATA Storage controller - 27C0, and for SSD better have the AHCI (Advanced Host Controller Interface) .
So , if I install the system, install Windows 10 on it (all through IDE) and use it with the existing hard drive that will be used to store files, will it work or f'd up?
Please help me if you know that, I'm really lamer on hw things.

What is the best option for archiving a windows 10 machine of a family member who passed away for posterity?

    Posted: 29 Mar 2019 08:12 PM PDT

I have an all in one computer which belonged to a family member who recently passed away. The computer is about to be given to someone else to use but I have been tasked with "archiving" it's contents so that those who want to look at it's contents in future for nostalgic purposes can do so.

Ideally the option would allow booting from the archive/image on another machine in order to browse it.

I am a software developer so I'm reasonably tech savvy but I've used macs exclusively for the last decade so my windows knowledge post xp is basically nil. Open to anything including VMs etc.

    Does anyone have any ideas?
