Is it true that you should let the battery of a device fully drain before charging it? Posted: 02 Jan 2019 08:54 AM PST Just recently got a new IPhone 6s Plus which apparently has a great battery. I've heard you should leave the battery to fully drain before charging, as if not it can harm the battery so far as longevity and holding charge. Is this true? Many thanks. [link] [comments] |
4k 60Hz not working on Gigabyte BRIX S Posted: 02 Jan 2019 11:47 PM PST I have just bought a Gigabyte BRIX S, the GB-BLCE-4105, to use with a large screen. According to the specifications, it should support 4k at 60Hz using HDMI 2.0. However I am only able to get 4k at 30Hz working, higher refresh rates are unavailable. 1080p does work at 60Hz. I have tested the screen (ProLite TE6568MIS-B1AG) and HDMI cable (that came with the screen) on a different PC, and then 4k 60Hz works fine, so it does seem to be the BRIX that is the problem. The BRIX is running Windows 10. I have installed the latest Intel drivers for the UHD 600 (version 25.20.100.6471). Adding a custom resolution in the Intel Graphics tool does not work either, as it will give an error message about not having enough bandwidth. I have checked the BIOS for anything related to HDMI, in case there was a setting to switch between HDMI 2.0 and 1.4, but haven't found anything. Has anyone got any idea of what to try next? Tried to boot from usb, now computer won’t turn on Posted: 02 Jan 2019 10:20 PM PST I made a bootable usb to install windows on an ssd. I unplugged my old hdd and plugged in my new ssd. I turn on computer it works fine. I hit f2, then boot order, then switch boot order to sandisk (usb, my ssd is pny) ok I hit apply. Goes to black screen. Blinking orange led says 2 blinks, then 3. Manual says motherboard issue if this is relevant. What do I do. Also, when I try to boot, gpu fan goes crazy high and loud, I find this odd. Thanks for help! :) SOLVED: I found this solution online so this wasn't my brain child. All you have to do is get to the BIOS/CMOS chip, remove it, hit the power button, put back in, power back on (make sure your psu is unplugged to be safe I suppose). That's how I fixed the specific problem, if you are here because you had the exact same problem as me, I hit f2 and tried to change the boot order, but just hitting continue got me to be able to go to the bootable usb and start win 10. Also, another problem I had that I fixed was instead of doing the normal installation on a brand new SSD, do custom. For some reason this worked. Cheers! [link] [comments] |
Hard Drive Disappeared from Windows Posted: 03 Jan 2019 01:22 AM PST I came home from winter break and my computer wasn't restarting so I held down the power button and upon restarting my I:\ drive is missing. This is what Disk Management looks like: https://i.imgur.com/zvZfx0c.png I have Hiren's Boot CD available and above average knowledge of computers but I'm unsure what to do here. This is Windows 10. Posted: 03 Jan 2019 02:32 AM PST Basically just want to confirm that I'm not doing the wrong thing by using a q tip to dab off the excess thermal paste that spilled over the sides. I'm 99% sure there won't be any issue, but I want to confirm before working on someone else's equipment. Also based on the pics, how much should I apply this time around? I'm thinking a small rice sized amount for the CPU, and not even half a pea for the GPU. https://imgur.com/a/74IaYqp One pic is before is after I removed some of the paste from the CPU. Contrast/Colors vastly different in screenshots from different PCs? Posted: 02 Jan 2019 10:15 PM PST My friend and I were comparing armor colors etc in a game (MHW), and when sending screenshots back and forth I noticed that the contrast and colors in our games look vastly different. Looking in other games (DS1/3, for example) also shows this, so it's not just this game (and there's no color settings anyway). We both have NVIDIA cards (1080 for me, 2080 for him, but also occurred on his old 1070) and otherwise our PCs are the same. Already looked in NVIDIA control panel, and all the color/brightness/contrast settings look the same. I couldn't find anything relevant in Windows' settings either. It's not our monitors, as screenshots look different too. Here's an example (same location, pretty much same time): To me anyway, it looks like his screenshot is darker, and a lot less "washed out". What could be causing this? Is there a way to change these things? [link] [comments] |
Help me figure out which power cord (charger) I need Posted: 02 Jan 2019 11:48 PM PST I have the HP 15-da0086od Laptop and need to get a replacement charger cord asap. I've researched online but reading the numbers makes my head spin - Can someone help me out with my specific case? What voltage/amperage/wattage is okay for me to use and what is not? PC won't turn on flashing orange light on motherboard Posted: 02 Jan 2019 11:28 PM PST I turned off my PC and later when turning it back on from the switch at the back I get an orange flashing light on my motherboard, this happened before and I fiddled with all the plugs to make sure they're plugged in properly and it fixed the issue. The fact it happened again is what worries me, am I doing something wrong? This is a list of all my parts: [link] [comments] |
CPU Max Frequency won't go above 13% Posted: 03 Jan 2019 01:37 AM PST Laptop: Asus UX430UQ Zenbook Operating System: Windows 10 CPU: i7-7500U Laptop Age: 1.5 years old Problem: Computer is running extremely slowly and I see in Resource Monitor that the CPU Max Frequency is stuck at 12-13% Story: I left my laptop for a couple weeks on low battery unplugged over the holidays. When I got home the battery took ages to charge and the computer was running slower than ever has. Doing basic tasks such as using windows explorer and typing was very laggy. The battery was stuck at 37% for the whole first night. It wasn't until I got home from work the next day that it was at 100%. But what remains is that my CPU is extremely slow. I noticed that when I got home and woke up my laptop was that for about 5 seconds resource monitor showed the CPU at 112% but then like 5 seconds later it was back to its 12-13% max frequency. I don't know what is causing it, the CPU temperature is like 30 degrees Celsius which isn't even far off room temperature. What I have done: I have done a full computer reset, ran the hardware troubleshooter, checked the settings regarding power management. It is on best performance. No idea what is going on and struggling to find answers online. Would really appreciate some help! Edits:

Using an eGPU Setup on an acer aspire e15 575 (through mini pcie slot) Posted: 03 Jan 2019 01:31 AM PST I was wondering if this would work, as the gpu in my laptop recently died. Would an rx 580 egpu setup worm with this? And is the required post inside the laptop? Also, where can I find the components necessary for this? Thanks! All files of a whole office got corrupted!!! Posted: 02 Jan 2019 09:17 PM PST On January 1st 2019, at around 1.30PM all data of our all office computer(15 computers), became 0 byte. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 03 Jan 2019 12:34 AM PST My friend's laptop (a Lenovo yoga I believe) sort of "died" recently. Allegedly it died while being updated or something to the extent. She can still power up the laptop, but once logged in, it is so slow that no applications (Chrome, Word, Excel, etc.) will run. She has lots of documents on it that she wants to try and get off of it before having to do a full factory reset. Is there a way that I could hook up maybe a USB-C to USB-C cord or another cord between my laptop and hers to transfer data off the dead laptop from mine? If not this way, how else might I be able to transfer data off of her laptop? Any other suggestions on ways to get data off, or ways around the hard reset? Thank you in advance! I can ask her for more specifics on what her laptop can/cannot do, or what programs will/will not run currently if it would help. (I hope I selected the correct flair for this problem) [link] [comments] |

Posted: 03 Jan 2019 12:15 AM PST My partners laptop is the same as mine, a Lenovo and its far slower than my on. She does a lot of movie torrenting and I'm assuming has slowed it down with malware but unsure if that's even the problem. How can I go about finding the problem and fixing it without paying for a good antivirus? Thank you tech supporters [link] [comments] |

Complete Lock-up very strange freezes Posted: 03 Jan 2019 03:30 AM PST Copy pasting from r/pcmasterrace and r/pcgamingtechsupport. To get to the point freezing looks like this: (Seizure warning) https://imgur.com/a/gPMkrRQ Specs like so:
Alright now to the body of the issue, it started after I installed a new SSD, Samsung 860 EVO 1TB. With the GPU in I don't get these weird artifacts, I only freeze up on the current image and my headphones play weird loud static noises. I took the GPU out to rule it out hardware wise and well got this freeze instead which I am honestly just clueless on how to proceed. I have no clue what could be at fault at this point. Sound goes through computer briefly before switching to headphones. Posted: 02 Jan 2019 07:53 PM PST As the title says, for some reason whenever I play a video the sound will go through my computer speakers for a second before switching to the headphones. This is less than ideal for a certain category of video. How can I fix this? Thank you very much. [link] [comments] |
