Should I give up on Android development? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 03:47 PM PDT I've been looking for a junior Android developer job for over a year now and I'm no closer to landing a job then I was when I first started looking. Hell, I can't even get an interview! I've been learning all of the hot topics in Android development, such as RxJava, Kotlin, Retrofit, Dagger, and Android Architecture Components and I feel like I have a pretty good understanding of these technologies. I have built several apps that use these technologies and I have an app in the Google Play Store. I've made profiles on most of the job boards and because of this I get contacted at least once a day from a recruiter about an Android position. The thing is, is every position that they contact me about is a senior position and then when I send them my resume, I never actually get an interview because I don't have x years experience. Are there only senior Android developer roles? Also, I should mention that I have a degree in Software Engineering from a reputable University with a high GPA. It feels like I've tried everything and that I should give up on Android and look for a different job. I love Android development, but it feels like no matter how hard I try, I can't even get an interview. Does anyone have any advice about how I should move forward from here? [link] [comments]

Instant Apps: How is it possible to run an app without installing it? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 01:59 PM PDT This makes no sense to me. Code is being downloaded to your device and executed, right? [link] [comments]
Successful devs, Whats your revenue numbers if you have more than a million downloads on your app? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 11:28 AM PDT I reckon it might be 40k-50k USD per million downloads. Am i right in my estimates? [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Oct 2018 11:11 AM PDT I only really want to show a recyclerview with a list of items so is there even any point of using a view instead of a fragment? I can do this using fragments but wondered if it would be better to use a custom view instead... Any feedback would be great [link] [comments]
Android app development theme? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 04:30 PM PDT I'm trying to make an app. I don't know any kind of coding necessary to make a mobile app. I only know C(and have written it out in C) and have used a visual app program(I drag and drop buttons and text boxes and make events for those buttons). I'm probably going to have to go to a software developer. Is there a website I can go to that has app themes that I could choose from that the software developers I go to could use that way I can reduce the amount of time, and thus money, I'd need to pay them. I'm essentially trying to set up everything they would need so I can make the time necessary to build the app as little as possible. [link] [comments]
Posted: 03 Oct 2018 12:09 PM PDT I recently put my first Android application in the Play Store. After a month, I'm wondering; what are the best ways to get some income from your app? Advertisements, premium features or something else? [link] [comments]

Posted: 03 Oct 2018 09:55 AM PDT When we type findviewbyID(R.id.), all of the IDs defined in the XML begins to pop up and, at compile time, gets replaced with an auto-assigned integer. Say we were making a level editor, and we wanted to store a list of item ids. Could we define these id's in an XML, and get this same behavior out of Android Studio? Or this this an R.id exclusive thing? I guess we could assign the IDs in a global variable somewhere, but that's a bit too...programmatic. [link] [comments]
What are the advantages to switching existing codebase to kotlin? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 09:52 AM PDT I have been working on an android app, with about 5000+ lines of java code. Does it make sense to switch to kotlin (fully/partially), if the developers are already familiar with Java? What are it's pros and cons and will it get more important in the near future [link] [comments]

Google is removing apps without warning for not having a privacy policy Posted: 03 Oct 2018 01:28 AM PDT I woke up today to find all my apps bar one have been removed from Google play. It's because I haven't written a privacy policy for them. I previously thought this was only needed if you were handling now user data than just the advertising id. Does anyone know if there's a template privacy policy for Firebase integrations? I'm not a lawyer and have no idea what needs to go into a privacy policy. [link] [comments]
Smart Display ROM Dump or Related Posted: 03 Oct 2018 01:58 PM PDT Hey, guys - I'd love to be able to load up the Smart Display ROM on an old tablet if possible or at least check out the inner workings. Does anyone have access to a system image dump or know the Android Things loading? Cheers! [link] [comments]

Resumé question. I'm the only Android dev in my team. How can I indicate that in my resumé ? Posted: 03 Oct 2018 05:24 AM PDT So I worked at a small start-up and in the majority of the time I write every single line of Android in our project. Some times my intern can help a bit but not often. How should I show that in my resumé or should I show that? May he HR think I lack of team work experiences? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
