Posted: 26 Sep 2018 05:31 PM PDT I was watching a Twitch stream when I lost control, when I did it opened a new tab, typed giberish, went to my chrome downloads page, tried to download what looked like cosplay porn, then I panicked and manually turned it off right as it began to download, and unplugged my webcam. I'm back on it again, it's only been about 15 minutes. WHAT SHOULD I DO? Here is a screenshot of what was attempted to download that I interrupted. I just started running Windows Defender to scan for threats, it found 1 and I pressed Take Action, then pressed Scan again, it returned with 0 threats identified. Now I'm posting this. Update: this is what the scan came back with, should everything be safe now? What are my courses of action? Any quick responses are greatly appreciated, this has made me very anxious. Update 2: I clicked remove under the quarantined threat. And also remembered something that I hadn't even thought of while writing my original post. I had had my iPhone plugged into my PC to let it charge when all this happened, I hadn't chosen whether not to "Trust this PC?" yet either, after it did happen, I unplugged my phone completely and selected don't trust this PC. Update 3: Full scan finished, came back with 0 threats found. I took screenshots of the two downloads that people were concerned about: https://imgur.com/a/LkuTc0X [link] [comments] |
How to hide my mobile hotspot? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 02:50 AM PDT So I am currently in college and I want to hide my mobile hotspot on android and I don't want my network to be hacked. [link] [comments] |
Using two USB bluetooth adapters to connect two speakers Posted: 27 Sep 2018 04:00 AM PDT I'm using windows 7 and voicemeeter. Is it possible to connect two bluetooth speakers (not multipoint) to two separate usb bluetooth adapters, and have them both play at the same time? [link] [comments] |
I want to transfer my current hard drive onto a new computer Posted: 27 Sep 2018 01:42 AM PDT So I'm receiving a new computer this tomorrow and I want to transfer my Solid State Drive over, can I go ahead and unhook it from my current one, or should I wipe it first? Or do I need an entirely new copy of Windows? [link] [comments] |
Website to create a wiki that can be private, and is very anonymous/safe? Posted: 26 Sep 2018 05:59 AM PDT I live in a corrupt Muslim country, and I want to help a few others compile and organize some information on the corruption and crimes. This is very serious business, as in killing a journalist isn't a big thing here so i need something that can be safe and anonymous. Once more people compile and organize the data on one wiki, then it can be released to the public more anonymously/safely. Unfortunately, clearweb, because the people contributing arent that tech savy. Any ideas? Edit: I appreciate all the help and support, I am going to go through each response/reply over the next day or two, just busy with a few real world things. [link] [comments] |
My laptops download speed is incredibly slow but its possibly not a network issue. Posted: 27 Sep 2018 02:59 AM PDT So a few days ago I noticed that it was taking 30 minutes to download game updates that were around 1 gig. It usually takes about a few minutes. my plan is 100 Mbps download and while that is true on my other devices, my laptop is nowhere near that. according to speed test my download speed is at about less that 5mbps both through ethernet and wifi. however when I check using my phone i'm at 100 + mbps. same connection so I know its not my network, unless it is. heres the ethernet test https://imgur.com/a/vV7GfQI the wifi test https://imgur.com/a/flsWtJo the test I did on my phone https://imgur.com/a/Om8cRxG I did all the Benchmarks and scans that let me know if its a hardware issue but each test comes back negative. the really weird thins is that when I watch videos on youtube. I can watch them in 1440p and there is no hiccups. when watching Netflix its absolutely flawless. back when I was at my 35mbps plan my netlfix would take forever to load and it was a pixelated mess. I don't get that even when the test says its slow. Downloading games or programs is what taking me forever. I wanna know if there is a possible solution before talking with dell tech support. also I have a 10 year old mac that's in the opposite side of the house that's constantly hitting 80+ mbps. nvidia display driver stops working, doesn't restore Posted: 27 Sep 2018 02:55 AM PDT Hi, I had an older cpu, mobo, ram, psu, and wanted to upgrade. I got myself an AMD ryzen 5 2600x gigabyte x470 aorus ultra gaming twin corsair ddr4 8GB vengeance lpx seasonic focus gold 550watt fx I have 3 ssd's and 3 hdd's and I am still using my old video card, an asus geforce GTX 970 4GB I have windows 10 fresh installed, updated all the drivers, and after an hour of installing all the stuff, my screen went blank and didn't come back, pc was still on. I do a hard reboot, and windows says the display driver stopped working and didn't restore. This happens over and over. I tried the latest drivers, old preinstalled drivers, uninstalling drivers, driver cleaner tool, and combinations of the above. Still the same, blank screen and hard reboot needed. No errors in device manager. I looked online and downloaded some benchmarking tools. The first one, FurMark, the second it starts, BAM blank screen. Tried this 3 times, everytime the same result, the second it starts, blank. Is my video card dying, is my psu to low power, do I have another problem? Can anybody help? [link] [comments] |
PC won't boot from disk or usb after crash - faulty memory? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 02:46 AM PDT Hey there, I'm in a bit of a pickle, as my pc randomly crashed a few days ago while playing WOW and has since failed to boot. When i start the machine, it will show a blue screen while attempting to start Windows 10, indicating a page fault in nonpaged area. The same thing happens when I try to boot from a recovery medium for windows. Naturally, i suspected ram failure, and sure enough memtest86 discovered more than 200.000 failures in test 6. I tried both of my 8gb sticks separately and together, in different ram slots, and it's always the same: all test have no failures, just test 6 has so many failures that it aborts the test. Is it likely that both ram stick have become defect at the same time? Or might this indicate a possible problem with the cpu's L2 cache, the graphics card memory or even the mainboard? Are there any further tests I can run for this? I have no replacement hardware and have to order the suspected components, so I'd love to get further knowledge before ordering a bunch of spareparts only to discover they weren't even the problem. As for specs - the system was built 2 years ago and always ran flawlessly up until this crash. CPU: i5-6600 Mainboard: Asus b150 plus Ram: 16GB G.Skill Value 4 DDR4-2133 DIMM CL15 Graphics: msi radeon r9 390 SSD: 525GB Crucial MX300 M.2 PSU: be quiet! Can’t turn WiFi on on my iPhone 7 Posted: 27 Sep 2018 02:06 AM PDT Since today I can't turn my iPhone WiFi on. It remains grey and does nothing. I got iOS 12. I tried to reset the network settings two times and turned the phone off. Does anyone know if I could do some other things so it may work again? Bluetooth works fine I just tested it. In the Morning the wifi was totally fine. [link] [comments] |
Using search delimiters with Google custom search on a website Posted: 26 Sep 2018 10:06 PM PDT Can delimiters be used as part of a query in a "Google custom search" box on any random website? For example, how could I specify docs containing the word "Mojave" that were created in the last week and that are in English only? [link] [comments] |

Internet not working after router factory reset. Posted: 26 Sep 2018 10:09 PM PDT Hey guys! I have a AN5506 02 FG. I wanted to do some port forwarding but forgot my username and password so I decided to factory reset. After I did it I logged in, changed the password but the internet is not working. Neither it worked on my PC neither wireless on my phone (I can still connect to the wi fi but I have no internet). Any ideas of what I should do? [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2018 04:00 AM PDT I have 10Mbs wired network connection that is very steady with fast ping. That is what I have been using so far. I made phone deal for unlimited data and speed I am getting is 30-50Mbs but 3-4 times worse latency. 10Mbs is enough for almost all of my use so I have not wanted to pay extra for more speed. Pretty much only time it is slow is when I download new Steam game. Now I got phone connection that is much faster and I am wondering how to use that to my advantage when I want to download something big? Simple way is to cut the wired connection, connect phone to computer and start download. Problem is that it will use full bandwidth of the phone and if I want to use computer for something else same time then connection will be slow.

Need to confirm if battery is incompatible or did I break the matrix? Posted: 26 Sep 2018 08:24 PM PDT So I rebuilt an hp ProBook laptop for a friend who lost theirs in a fire. The old battery was dead/non-existent when in the laptop with the power plugged in. So I ordered a Chinese knock off replacement from Amazon. I received the battery and it's half charged (worked, was able to turn on the laptop) but when I plug in the ac-adapter it doesn't recognize anything is plugged in. I take the battery out and the ac adapter works. I put the battery in, with the laptop on and windows recognizes the battery, but then the icon changes in Windows to just running off battery power. Take the battery out and then the ac adapter is recognized again. Battery discharges still when plugged in. So it's not just in limbo (plugged in not charging). My guess would be an incompatible battery. I also tried two different ac adapters. (Both are dell, but work with the laptops) [link] [comments] |

Serious problem with left/right clicking and typing responses Posted: 27 Sep 2018 03:37 AM PDT This just started today on my old Lenovo Thinkpad E420. It's been a trooper for seven years, but I don't know how to fix this one. After booting (it takes my password w/o issue), clicking the left mouse button brings up the right mouse context menu. Typing with the keyboard also brings up the context menu whenever I type a letter. This happens both in Win7 and Ubuntu (dual boot). Also happens with both the mousepad and external mouse. When I open a program, the Windows Explorer taskbar freezes and I can't click on any other icons. Right now, the left mouse clicker is only working to close tabs in Chrome, but I can't open programs from the taskbar or open the start menu. I can minimize Chrome but I can't select the icon to reopen it. I did a system restore, but the problem persists. (But once again, it's also happening in Ubuntu.) I'm mystified as to whether this is a hardware or software problem, or whether my laptop is just old. Any help is much, much appreciated! [link] [comments] |
PC stuck in endless reboot cycle, unable to boot from any device Posted: 27 Sep 2018 03:36 AM PDT I turned on my PC this morning and it brought up "preparing automatic repair" when booting Windows 10. After a few seconds the PC turned off. I then restarted and the same thing happened again, and again. I then tried putting a Windows 10 disc in to try and repair Windows, but the same thing happens when booting from CD/DVD drive - after a few seconds it just restarts the PC. If I open up the BIOS settings, the PC doesn't restart and lets me make changes for as long as I want. It seems to be just whenever I boot from a device, it restarts after a few seconds. I have tried:
All the places I've looked for help just suggest me repairing Windows, but obviously I can't even boot a disc to do that. After leaving my PC running in this cycle for a while I realise that it's not always booting at the exact same time, sometimes it doesn't even get to the "Preparing automatic repair" screen. Any help? Specs:

My PC stopped working, and I can't even reach BIOS (Windows 7) Posted: 26 Sep 2018 11:50 PM PDT Hello dear Tech Support, Yesterday my PC crashed while playing Skyrim, the screen went completely brown (?) and after about one minute it turned black. After shutting down and booting my PC, I tried to get into BIOS, but couldn't even get that far, since my display went to saving mode because it didn't get any feedback (not sure if that's the right term, but I hope you understand what I mean :) ) Now the weird thing is, after a few times I tried to boot, the LEDs from my keyboard stayed on even when the PC was shut down. (I've read that this is a thing when wanting to charge per USB while computer is shut down) But this never happened before, and I've never changed any settings regarding that. I hope these are enough information to work with. Do you guys have any idea what broke down, or any means of troubleshooting I could go through? My display definitely works (I checked it with my laptop), I changed the USB ports of keyboard and mouse multiple times (LEDs of keyboard turned on in all cases) and the power is sufficient for a PC to work at all times. In advance, thanks for your help :) Since I'm not the most tech-savy, please be kind if there is an obvious/dumb mistake in my line of thinking here :D And please excuse any grammar mistakes, I usually don't deal with tech problems in English. Have a nice day! [link] [comments] |
Windows 10 Laptop disk running at 100% Posted: 27 Sep 2018 03:35 AM PDT Hey everyone, Apparently this is an issue for Windows 10, and I want to blame it on it being an older (4-5 years old) laptop, but I'm hoping there's something I've overlooked as I'm supposed to be DJing a big party tomorrow and don't want it to crash on me. I have an Asus Republic of Gamers laptop ca 2014 running Windows 10. As soon as it starts up things lag like crazy (taking sometimes up to 15 minutes for the icons on my task bar to show up). Task Manager shows my disk runs at 100% all the time. Things I've tried:
With the last one, I saw it was hanging on 16% for a few hours, so I let it run overnight. When I woke up I saw it was booting into a diagnostic mode, but let it restart into it's normal thing, so I'm ni sure if it completed the disk check or not. I'm pretty sure replacing the hard drive would fix everything, but I don't really have time between now and tomorrow. Is there anything I've overlooked that could help? Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Can i be sure that my graphics card was the culprit? Posted: 27 Sep 2018 03:21 AM PDT A while ago my graphics card, well, not quite died yet but my computer crashed and i got these weird cyan bars on my screen during boot, and then couldn't boot into windows. I switched the slot and managed to get into windows, but the graphical artifacts are still there. I gave the card today to my friend, and he got the same thing. One small detail that puzzled me, was that during the initial crash and when diagnosing it, my reset button would not work sometimes, even on the motherboard, which was strange. Since then, i've been using the integrated graphics, and everything seems to be fine. Should i just go ahead and order a new card, or is there anything else i should check to be sure that only the card was faulty? I was thinking about getting a rx 580 and using this chance to also get a freesync monitor. Windows 7 i5 3570k radeon hd 7950 3gb 8gb ram xfx pro 550W main system on a SSD [link] [comments] |
Restarted in the middle of cuda setup, drivers arent working cant be re-installed Posted: 26 Sep 2018 11:34 PM PDT The cuda 9.0176 windows 7 setup black screened my computer for 20 minutes so I restarted my computer. Afterwards msi afterburner is saying a .dll is missing and my resolution is fixed to 768p instead of 1440p. Seems like my nvidia drivers are corrupted, trying uninstalling the drivers and the cuda stuff but geforce experience and the drivers dont want to be installed. My video output is still working through my gtx 980 though. Any help is appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Random loss of service on Apple iPhone 6 Posted: 26 Sep 2018 11:29 PM PDT So this just started happening about a few weeks ago, never had this problem before. For some background info that might help, I just got a warranty provided replacement iPhone and new SIM card a few months ago since I broke my old one. Idk if that affects anything. Anyway, what I'm experiencing is a random loss of service at unexpected times. Doesn't matter if I'm connected to WiFi or using data, my bars and the little 'Verizon' thing in the top left corner of my screen will disappear and I won't be able to send/receive texts or calls. Every once in a while, when this happens, but not every time, I'll get a message popping up saying "no SIM card installed". Could this be a problem with my SIM card? Is there some sort of malware I got hit with? Could Verizon be throttling somehow? Any help is appreciated! [link] [comments] |
