Any 4:3 options nowadays? <$600 Posted: 27 Sep 2018 01:42 AM PDT So I'm looking to get a laptop for the rare occasion when I really have to use one. Since I won't be watching movies or gaming on it (more like coding/working with text), I want a 4:3 screen. I remember there was some random name laptop a while ago, but can't recall the name. I don't need any tablet-like features, just looking for something with a 4:3 screen in that price range. [link] [comments] |

Laptop for CS student with matte screen, ~€400-500 budget Posted: 27 Sep 2018 04:06 AM PDT
400-500 euro would be great, buying in Poland
Best specifications and battery life
Not important really
No OS is fine, will probably use Linux
Something between 13' and 15' maybe?
I will probably run some IDEs, maybe virtual machines
N/A
Matte screen is a must, reliable build quality would be nice [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2018 04:05 AM PDT So I'll use it a bit for work, but mainly watching movies and gaming. What's the best brand to use? And what about models? [link] [comments] |
Looking for reliable 17 inch laptop Posted: 27 Sep 2018 12:18 AM PDT Hi, Im looking for a business/work laptop with a big screen so Im thinking 17.3" and a great battery. I dont need powerful hardware but I need reliabilty. I dont intend to use it for gaming or for intensive programs, mostly will be used for spreadsheets, web browsing. Decent speakers would be great but isnt a must. I dont care if its new or used, as long as it doesnt break down on me. Is it possible to get this with a budget of $600? TIA [link] [comments] |

2-in-1 laptop for watching movies on the go, £550 budget Posted: 27 Sep 2018 02:46 AM PDT
UK, £550
2-in-1 and a high resolution screen are important. I'm looking for something I can use to download movies and watch them on the go. I take long train commutes quite regularly, which is why I'd like something I can switch into tablet mode.
Not very important.
Windows
Around 14" would be ideal, but I'm flexible.
I only really play Football Manager and Crusader Kings 2
I only really play Football Manager and Crusader Kings 2.
Touchscreen for tablet mode. Bluetooth to connect to my speaker at home would be good too. [link] [comments] |

USA: Looking for a good thin 13"-14" laptop for school, max budget $1200 Posted: 26 Sep 2018 02:20 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: 1200 max preferably 600-900 though. I'm in the U.S Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply: Good battery life and best specs for the money. *How important is weight and thinness to you?: Important! I don't want bulky I want pretty thin. I'm going to use it for school I want to be carrying it around easily. *Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux: I don't mind. Although I never used Linux before. *Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.: Yes 13"-14" *Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.: No gaming. *Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?: Good keyboard, reliable build quality, fast, will last me more than a few years. Doesn't get too hot when using for light work. *Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.: I was looking at MacBooks but I hear they're overpriced so I wasn't really sure if I should get it or look at other laptops worth the price. Also I was looking at Asus and now I'm here. Also this laptop is for school. I usually don't use laptops mostly my phone. So this will be used to Google docs and maybe Google presentations and such Gmail. Some browsing here and there. Light YouTube videos. [link] [comments] |
Looking for decent 800 and below laptop Posted: 26 Sep 2018 07:21 PM PDT Hi all! I am looking for a relatiely thin laptop that can do light gaming. This will be used for school and computer science. I wanna stick under 800 dollars if possible, but willing to go 100 up if it is truly worth it. The only thing I don't like about this is weight, so I was hoping there are similar spec'd laptops with a lower weight. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Sep 2018 12:59 AM PDT About to pull the trigger on an 20kh002sus. I'm mainly looking for something rugged for work but I also like my technology. Will mainly be used for Excel / Word at work but minor programming / Netflix at home. I think this may a good match. Anyone got an experience with the mentioned laptop? Any other recommendations? Also I'm not sure when the 6th gen was released. Is there a 7 coming out soon that I should wait for? [link] [comments] |

Looking for a gaming laptop, US Posted: 26 Sep 2018 09:22 PM PDT
**How important is weight and thinness to you? Weight is pretty important, since I will be using it for college, and as long as it isn't T H I C C I'll be fine **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. I would prefer windows **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Yes, 13-15 in
**If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? 60 fps or more at high graphic settings in tf2 would be fine **requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Reliable build quality is a must, and others would be a nice plus, but not necessary

Posted: 26 Sep 2018 09:05 PM PDT First off just want to say what a fantastic reddit group this is, went through a few post and people go above and beyond to help others purchase the most suitable laptop, great community! * **Total budget and country of purchase:*\* £1500/ 64,000 THB UK/ Thailand I'm based in the UK but travel to Thailand once a year. In the UK I could potentially claim laptop as expense against corporation tax saving me 19% but I assume Thailand prices would be better value and won't have extortionate 20% VAT in the first place. * **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.*\* This is a hard one, ideally all 3! 2 in 1 factor - I've used tablets and laptop separately but never a laptop with touch screen functions. Would it speed up work or improve quality of life, if it makes a significant difference then it would be nice to have. Good battery life - I understand that gaming laptops aren't known for long battery life, I think 4/5 hours would be nice Best spec - This is a priority since I want a long lasting laptop that last me many years to come. * **How important is weight and thinness to you?** - Very important, I plan to travel with and use this mostly in coffee shops, It needs to fit in my backpack, ideally a 15" with thin bezels. It doesn't need to be chromebook light but needs to be light to be carried around. * **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.*\* Windows 10 * **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.*\* 15" * **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.*\* 4k editing, photoshop, gaming (but very occasionally), adobe premiere pro/ adobe photoshop * **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?*\* 60fps min, gaming not a priority * **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?*\* good keyboard - mid/low priority, doesn't need to be the perfect keyboard, something decent and not too clunky, good functionality for shortcuts, numbers on right side would be nice if they can fit them. reliable build quality - high priority, I want a long lasting laptop which won't wear our from travel touch screen - again need opinion on this, if people believe it is super beneficial then great to include, if it is very gimmicky then low/mid priority finger print reader - low priority, nice to have but not necessary optical drive - low priority good input devices - ideally a good amount of usbs and ports, sd card would be nice. at least 3 usbs ports (mouse, external hardrive, charge phone) Internal hard drive space - minimum 256, ideally more but depends on how it affects budget. I will be using external harddrive also but you can never have too much space! * **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.*\* I've been out of the tech circle since 7 years ago when I bought my desktop which has lasted me till now and still going strong, am looking to find a laptop which will give me the same longevity. Looking for a laptop for video editing on the go and photo shopping. Looking forward to all your suggestions. Thanks [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Sep 2018 12:10 PM PDT Hi! I'm planning to get Acer Nitro 5 for college works and gaming on the go. I was wondering if I should just get it for $695 or wait for deals in November. Also, how well does this laptop perform on gaming? I mostly play dota2, PUBG, WoW and FFXIV. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

I would love some input on these 3 laptops Acer Swift 3, 8th Gen Intel Core i5-8250U - 675.64 https://www.amazon.com/Acer-i5-8250U-NVIDIA-GeForce-SF314-52G-55WQ/dp/B0746P25QX ASUS VivoBook S Ultra Thin and Portable Laptop, Intel Core i5-8250U processor - 654.99 https://www.amazon.com/VivoBook-Portable-i5-8250U-Processor-S510UA-DS51/dp/B078YMY5VZ Lenovo Laptop IdeaPad 330 81D2005CUS AMD Ryzen 5 2500U - 500 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834850877 I'm leaning towards the swift 3 for battery-life alone, but the ideapad's price is enticing. Does anyone have experiences with any of these laptops? [link] [comments] |
Looking for a 2 in 1 ($500 budget) Posted: 26 Sep 2018 02:27 PM PDT As title says, I want a 2 in 1 and was wondering if there are any good deals around for my needs. I will not be gaming, but an 8th Gen Intel is a must. An i3 or i5 is fine, but I want 8th Gen. Also a good screen is important. I'd like an ssd but I know it will limit my options, so at least something that I can easily change or add an ssd to. Thanks. [link] [comments] |
