Security: Something on my phone is "phoning home" each time I restart Posted: 02 Aug 2021 11:31 AM PDT I have a Samsung Note 8 (SM-N950U), Android version 9, Kernel version 4.4.153. Verizon. Every time I do a restart on my phone I get a call from a specific phone number. If I answer, it's just dead air and hangs up. I've blocked the number, yet every time I restart I receive a notification the the phone blocked an incoming call from that number. I've used several antivirus tools, no results. No Verizon scan alerts, none from Google either. I don't know if it's from an app reconnecting when I restart, but I receive the call regardless of if I've entered my pin after restart or not. Any ideas? Question about Google drive notification. Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:19 PM PDT I get a notification from Google drive that some Russian letters have resolved a comment. On the bottom of my screen it'll say file not found. Then when I expand the notification it's all Russian letters. I haven't clicked it though. Has this happened to anyone else? [link] [comments] |
USB C Powered FM Transmitter? Does it exist? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:11 PM PDT You know how all the old FM transmitters just plugged into your headphone jack? Do they make an FM transmitter that just plugs into your USB-C? Not the ones that plug into your cigarette lighter and have a USB-C port built in to charge your phone. I mean one that just plugs directly into your phone like a little dongle. It might look something like this but obviously this is not it. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 10:18 PM PDT When I plug in my charger there's a pop up thingy that says "Unplug Charger Alien object or liquid detected. Plug out the charger, make sure the charger and the USB port are dry and clean, and restart the phone." So I did as what it says. I unplugged my charger, turned it off and cleaned my charging port until I cant see any dirt or liquid inside. I tried to plug it in again and it still says the same thing, so I thought maybe its because of the charger. So I did try to clean my charger and tried to plug it in again and it still says the same thing again. Btw my charger is a USB-C. [link] [comments] |
Screen has been "glitching" for a couple months now, any ideas what is wrong? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 05:57 PM PDT Here is a small imgur album of a couple screenshots of what's going on. This happens at minimum once a day and persists through restarts. Occasionally, I do get an error that says "System UI has stopped responding" with the options to "Close", "Wait", or "Send report". The error is not consistent with the graphical glitches, though. This is also happening on a Pixel 2XL. The effect also gets worse if there is something moving on screen, i.e. videos, UI animations/effects, etc. [link] [comments] |
Is the Moto G Play a good phone? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 09:27 PM PDT I am looking to get a new phone. I currently have a 4 year old phone and want something with more than 16gb storage. My budget is $150 because I am poor. A phone I've been eyeballing is the Moto G Play. Is the Moto G Play a good phone that'll last 4 years? I do not want to pay for a new phone every one or two years, and require it to last a good long while. If you have any suggestions please comment them below. I am very certain that I do not want an iphone. I don't like iphones. [link] [comments] |
App to restrict data usage in video classes Posted: 02 Aug 2021 09:19 PM PDT Hi, is there any app or way that could restrict data speed of any app? Don't want to put data cap. But wanna restrict speed. Android 11 Usecase: brother have online classes, and he have low BW mobile plan (daily 1.5Gb) and the classes are loading up in 720p or higher. As its just a lecture class, w/o any use of blackboard or ppt (ppt given upfront) he wishes to save data and watch in 360p. [link] [comments] |

Enable gboard glide typing for space bar? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:32 PM PDT Can you enable space bar for gboard so you don't ever have to lift finger when making sentences? Microsofts swift keyboard is very inaccurate with space [link] [comments] |
Having a peculiar issue with my phone and its relationship to external gamepads Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:11 PM PDT I've been using an external controller to play games on my phone for years, but just recently I've run into a brick wall. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy A12 and either a cheap $12 bluetooth controller from AliExpress, or my PS4 controller when I'm at home. Both gamepads have this weird effect where they'll work fine on my home screen when I'm navigating between apps, but the moment I open up one of my emulators to play a game, the thumbstick and d-pad inputs are no longer recognized. The face and shoulder buttons are still picked up though. This effect is the same on my SNES, MAME and PSP emulating apps, but is surprisingly absent from the PlayStation one. I have deleted and reinstalled these apps, I've changed multiple settings, I've reset the controllers, I've even bought the premium version in some cases just to see if it was some kind of cruel holdout on the part of the developers. But the same frustrating thing keeps happening. Has anyone had a similar experience? Would love to fix this and get back to playing NFL Street 2 [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:11 PM PDT Hey im new to android so there are some things that are still unclear to me, sorry if this is not the place to ask. Im planning on getting the pro version of either klwp or kwgt, but i dont quite understand which one i should get. So i want a music widget that lets me play/pause a song, see the song progression, etc. Where is the right place to look for those kinds of widgets? Also im not interested in making or getting live wallpapers (which i think would be klwp...) As you can see im very confused lol, please help! [link] [comments] |
I have a Verizon Samsung phone, can I use Odin or something to change it to global version? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 07:07 PM PDT Is it worth it and is possible? I mostly want to do it to get easier updates when moving away from the states [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:49 PM PDT Is there a way to add a photo, or a shortcut to a photo, to my Pixel 2's homescreen? I have tried navigating to the picture in Files, and long pressing, but, when I press the 3 dots, I do not see an option to add to homescreen, only: -Select All -Open With -Rename -Add to Favorites -Move to Save Folder -Back up to Google Drive -File Info I have tried selecting the photo, but the three dots menu only has -Use as -Open with -Move to safe folder I do not want the photo as my wallpaper; I just want it to be pinned to the homescreen. There's a problem with uploading photos on any photo editing app. Posted: 02 Aug 2021 06:42 PM PDT My phone is a redmi note 9 with the new android 11 system that makes it harder to access certain files on the phone, my current problem is that everytimei try to upload a photo on an editing app, it just brings me back to the original screen where i chose the option to upload a photo, so what Ãt does is that it opens up google files so that you can choose your photo, but when you do choose a photo to edit, it Just doesnt upload it to the app and it just brings you back to the original screen that you came from, i mainly use pixellab and PicsArt for editing photos and both of them dont work, Ive tried the same with other photo editing apps but the same problem kept happening, i tried searching for an answer on google and Youlube buti didnt find anything useful, i would appreciate any help with fixing this problem because it has been bothering me for a long time. Thermal printing PDF from Android Posted: 02 Aug 2021 05:33 PM PDT Hey Reddit! Quick question. I need to be able to print a correctly sized PDF file generated by a website to a battery-powered wireless thermal receipt printer via an Android mobile device. The PDF file is 80mm wide so it shouldn't be an issue. However, most of the printers found on Amazon have *terrible* reviews when it comes to Android compatibility or the ability to print a PDF file. The workflow should be as follow: 1.User enter info on a web form via a browser on Android.
Anyone ever done something like this? Any parts to suggest? This is for a non-profit so the 800$+ NCR printers unfortunately won't work budget-wise. Thanks! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 04:47 PM PDT I'm at home on my home wifi. And it still shows that I'm using data as well. It has the wifi symbol and the 4glte symbol right next to eachother. I have that setting that automatically switches on data if there's weak wifi turned off, so I'm genuinely confused lol [link] [comments] |
How do I get Google's weather app instead of Samsung's? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 04:12 PM PDT I'd really love to be able to do this. I know that in order to get the app, you open the Google app and search in weather and then click add to home screen. I've done that already, but what I would like to do is have this be the widget on my phone, but I'm not sure how to do this or if it's even possible. Thank you so much in advance! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 02 Aug 2021 12:01 PM PDT Bought a $60 pair a couple years ago. Never had an issue. I lost one of the earbuds at a park and that model of earbuds are no longer available. I've tried 3 different similarly priced pairs of earbuds and the audio keeps cutting in and out. when I try the solo remaining earbud from my first set, it's still fine. Surely it can't be the earbuds if every pair is having the same issue. I have a Huawei Honor 9. Any ideas? [link] [comments] |

Connect to NTFS SSD, do you need a special USB-OTG cable? Posted: 02 Aug 2021 02:48 PM PDT I have a NTFS 120GB Sata SSD in a USB 3.0 Enclosure. I try to find out why my device didnt even detect it, when connected via my normal data transfer/charging cable. I would use "exFAT /NTFS by Paragon", but if its not detected that doesnt work. Does it need a specific cable telling the device its a slave and not a master or something? [link] [comments] |

switching phones, have a question Posted: 02 Aug 2021 02:19 PM PDT My current android is giving me enough problems to justify an upgrade. I plan on just buying one outright online. Can I just move my SIM card from the old phone to the new phone if the new phone is unlocked and supports my carrier? Or does the carrier NEED to be involved somewhere in the process?
