    High end PC won't start

    Posted: 03 Aug 2018 07:47 PM PDT

About 10 hrs ago I turned it off by pressing the power button, the same one I turn it on with. I have never done this before.

    Now it won't turn on.

As seen in the pics, most lights come on but the fan doesn't start spinning and the monitor doesn't recognize being plugged into anything.

I have tried replugging the fan as well as replugging and charging displayer ports for monitor. Just stays in this weird half-on state.

PC Loops on Startup and Resets Settings to Default

Hey guys, I've been having some PC issues, I was hoping one of you knowledgeable people would be able to share their 2c :)

When I turn my PC on, it often gets stuck in a loop of resetting it's self, loading back up, resetting itself, loading up, resetting etc before it even gets to the lobby/login screen. This does stop after a while, but it's always a different amount of resets, sometimes it doesn't do it at all and it's a smooth startup but sometimes it's so bad I need to turn it off and on again manually to actually get it to work.

My second problem, and I think that they are probably linked, is that my settings always get restored to default every time I turn my computer off and back on. For example on a fresh startup when I open Google Chrome, it always acts as if I'm opening it for the first time, and prompts me with "Welcome to Chrome, would you like to use chrome as your default browser?". Does that make sense?

bit of information about my PC; it's about 8 years old now, but the specs are:

    • 8gb ram ddr3
    • nvidia GTS250
    • Intel Core i8 CPU 860 @ 2.8ghz . 2.00ghz (not really sure how to make sense of this, I was under the impression my computer had 8 processors that were 2.8 each, maybe somewhere here knows more?!)
    • Widetech 665 platinum 650w PSU - model - ATX650W

ADDITIONAL INFO: I recently had my PSU "fixed" by a repair shop - could it still be the PSU? Also there seems to be a TON of dust, could this be a part cause to the problem?

tl;dr my PC gets stuck in a loop of resetting itself from anywhere between 0 - 6 restarts before it works, then my user settings all get restored to default.

    Cheers all!
