Posted: 29 Jun 2018 09:54 AM PDT I asked this question on the tech support reddit and I was looking for a little more insight Hi, I just wanted to know if anything happened as the fear of the unknown really bothers me. HP Support Assistance informed me of an update to my laptop's bios (listed "important" update) and gave me the option to "install". I completed the bios update with no issues. My computer went through the installation process, reset and everything was just as I left it. I rechecked the HP Support Assistance and it still listed the bios update however--due to overlooking it--it had gone to the "action log" (in other words the successfully completed list). It gave the option to install the bios update again--thinking it had not installed I did it again with no issue. My bios and HP Support Assistance currently list the correct updated bios version and there is no noticeable problem to my computer but I don't know if something internal has gone haywire (even though there is no indication). So my question is whether there is any chance my computer might have been damaged by reinstalling a bios update after the same update was already installed (essentially if my bios version was already 1, reinstalling the same bios version which is also 1) Thanks [link] [comments]
Many BSODs in the past 2 weeks - what could be the cause? Posted: 29 Jun 2018 06:18 AM PDT So for the past few weeks, PC started to get BSODs and freezes/crashes more often. Started with 1 every 2 days, to 3/day (on an old version of Windows 10 Pro from 2016 with blocked updates and a freshly installed Windows 10 Pro downloaded from official website and activated with an OEM key)
PC specs:
So far i've got these BSOD errors (sorted by most recent):
Also got a few freezes, where sound just repeats itself, either idle on desktop listening to music, freezing on Welcome screen when turning on the PC, during loading screen or randomly while playing games (Warframe, also crashed once during PUBG i think), and 1 or 2 times it straight up rebooted itself with no message, after a black screen.
Using WhoCrashed on the most recent .dmp files, it displays this:
On Fri 29-Jun-18 2:00:32 PM your computer crashed or a problem was reported crash dump file: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP This was probably caused by the following module: ntkrnlmp.exe (nt!KeRegisterNmiCallback+0x22A) Bugcheck code: 0x1E (0xFFFFFFFFC0000096, 0xFFFFF8027EFE1304, 0x0, 0x0) Error: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED Bug check description: This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch. This might be a case of memory corruption. This may be because of a hardware issue such as faulty RAM, overheating (thermal issue) or because of a buggy driver. The crash took place in the Windows kernel. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver that cannot be identified at this time.
Conclusion: 3 crash dumps have been found and analyzed. Only 2 are included in this report. No offending third party drivers have been found. Consider using WhoCrashed Professional which offers more detailed analysis using symbol resolution. Also configuring your system to produce a full memory dump may help you.
What i did:
Since the 2nd RAM DIMM lasted more, i assumed the 1st RAM DIMM was the culprit, but now im wondering... what causes the BSODs? CPU, motherboard or the SSD (or even the HDD)? Not sure if its a software issue, since i reinstalled the OS. [link] [comments]

HDD(possibly) cause 100% CPU load on laptop Posted: 29 Jun 2018 04:07 AM PDT Hi. Got a laptop Acer Aspire 5739G CPU:Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6600 @ 2.20GHz × 2. GPU: GeForce GT 240M. 8 gigs ram. Win7 professional 64bit I took HDD from my dead laptop( it died due to unrelated to HDD reasons). That laptop was newer than this Acer one. I completly wiped it and installed fresh windows on it(and few apps and games) while that laptop was still operable. Then laptop died, so I decided to take it from that laptop and install it on this one. The problem is that laptop cpu usage is uber high, I can open web browser and my CPU will rise to 100% even when I use 2-3 tabs. Using multiple programs at once impossible, CPU goes from 80-100 randomly. EVen though HDD is 95% empty. What should I do? Could it be conflicting drivers issue, since I took it from different laptop, even though I reinstalled suitable drivers(maybe not all)? Or what could be another issue, since original HDD from this laptop is way older, smaller, but faster. I could keep around 10 open tabs in browser, and multiple apps running without any issues. > This newer one, few open tabs > CPU 100% TL:DR; Took HDD from newer (dead) laptop (HDD is fine) installed into laptop, CPU usage is extremely high, even with just browser working (Literally any browser) how to solve? Reinstall windows? [link] [comments]
