Looking for a laptop for gaming that doesn't look like a gaming laptop Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:59 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: About 1500 Euro in the Netherlands. Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Specs for money. I'll be using it mostly at home, so battery life really isn't a huge concern, and the 2 in 1 form factor doesn't really do a lot for me either. How important is weight and thinness to you? Not hugely. It's nice, but not a primary concern. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Laptops I've been looking at have all been about 15 inches in size. Larger is nice, but nothing smaller, please. Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Mostly gaming. I don't do any serious photo-editing or video-editing at all, really. I do watch movies, and listen to music via my laptop a lot, so decent speakers and a respectable display would be nice. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Very big on Skyrim and Fallout, also Total War games. Not a huge amount of FPS-games. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? The one thing that's left me a little frustrated, is that pretty much all the laptops I've looked at that are in my price range, and have the kind of specs I want, have the whole black-and-red gaming look, which I'm really not into. I'm fine with a generic black slab, or would love a clean metal finish, but it's almost all red detailing, big logos, weird casing. I did look at an Acer Aspire 7 that seemed promising, but I can't find a lot of reviews, so I have no real idea of the build quality, speakers, etc. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. Also, I'm hoping for something that will last me a longer time. So if you have an idea of upgrades that are worth the money, even if they don't necessarily fit my budget, I'd love to hear your ideas on that. submitted by /u/HenkieVV [link] [comments] |
Lightweight laptop with ram expandable to 16GB for editing 4k Posted: 27 Apr 2018 04:08 AM PDT I'm looking for a laptop under 1.7kg with an intel i7/i5 processor, not state-of-the-art but good enough for video editing. intel uhd graphics is enough as GPU. But I need the RAM to be 16GB. I want to edit 4k video on the road. I don't care if it'll be a little slow but from my experience Adobe Premiere just can't cope with less than 16GB RAM. Do you know a good little laptop that it's ram is expandable to 16GB without going overboard in the other specs? My budget is 1000$. - Total budget and country of purchase: 1000$, EU

Laptop Recommendation Posted: 27 Apr 2018 03:22 AM PDT Hi I am looking for a cheap(ish) laptop to use with this Capture Card. The minimum requirements are: Notebook: Intel Core i7-3537U 2.0 GHz + NVIDIA GT735. The only requirement outside of this is that it must have Windows 10 Professional as it will be domain joined & must have multiple USB3 ports. The laptop will be used for recording/streaming presentations combining multiple inputs in OBS including 2x cameras, microphone and captured desktop/applications from a presenting device (HDMI). My budget is around £500. I am asking here as I am having trouble finding anything around my price range, the results seem to be CAD & Gaming machines. submitted by /u/Bevlar [link] [comments] |
Ultrabook or Chromebook Posted: 26 Apr 2018 05:21 PM PDT I'm looking for a laptop that is thin, light, very portable, great build quality, amazing battery life, quiet, won't slow down after long use, for general usage - nothing heavy duty, under £1000 - the cheaper the better. So Ultrabook or Chromebook or something else? No Macs or tablets. submitted by /u/YJX94 [link] [comments] |
Finally have the disposable income to get a powerful laptop but have been out of the loop for 5 years now. What should I look out for? Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:58 AM PDT Hey guys, I've got a great internship and my first paycheck is coming up! Coincidentally, I need to replace my 5 year old Acer v5 572g... (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DKFFFXO/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8) ...which I recently fried. I loved that damn thing but it was ancient by now and I have the money to get a new one anyways. As much as I'd like to get a desktop I'm still in college and don't want the baggage that comes with a stationary rig and GPU prices are still pretty horrendous right now from what I can gather. I hear laptop GPUs are now leaps and bounds better than the geforce 720m I've been living off for the last 5 years so I feel comfortable splurging on true a gaming laptop for once (Looking to play Dirt 4, Total War: Warhammer and the like). Budget is ~ $800 but I'm willing to shell out more if the jump is worth it. Problem is I literally have no idea where to start. Which brands should I be searching for? What kind of display should I steer away from? Who has decent track pads these days (I loved my acer track pad for instance). Which cards are worth the bang for their buck? Should I shell out for a less powerful i7 or stick with a cheaper i5 with a higher clock speed? What should be the minimum amount of ram I'm willing to buy with it? Can anybody point me towards some powerful 15.6" laptops (preferably 1" thick or less) and help me navigate the above criteria? Edit: I managed to replace the HDD in my old Acer with an SSD so I'm more than comfortable upgrading that later if need be. Also I'm I'm the US submitted by /u/STiLL_bOoZiN [link] [comments] |
MSI GS73VR (1060) vs MSI GT72VR (1070) Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:30 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: Around 1800€ (Spain) How important is weight and thinness to you? More portability would be nice, but is not essential Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10 Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 17 inch Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Gaming, some text editing If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? (Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Monster Hunter Online) Specific requirements? I want my laptop to be sturdy enough to travel around the world with me and survive a bumb or two on the way. Other. I'm hesitating between two rigs: GS73VR with 120Hz screen and GT72VR GT72VR is usually cheaper even though it has a more powerful graphics card. Is GS73VR more expensive because of the screen and portability factor? (it's two times lighter than GT72). Is the screen difference worth picking a weaker graphics card? Is there that much of a difference between 1060 and 1070 in the case of portable gaming? I also read somewhere that the stealth models of msi laptops tend to produce a slightly annoying high-pitch sound under strain. Is that true? How annoying is it? Does the more bulky build of GT72 make it better at cooling and work under strain (i.e. gaming)? Which of those would you choose and why? PS. I apologise if those questions are silly, but I don't know much about laptops. submitted by /u/Lord_Blazey [link] [comments] |
Looking for a laptop used purely for school, with focus on portability and display Posted: 27 Apr 2018 01:08 AM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: Around 1000, USD Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. 2 in 1 preferred, good battery life How important is weight and thinness to you? Extremely important Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Preferably Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. Around 13 inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Light programming, some IDEs If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Would like if it had decent pen support Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I have a great 15 inch laptop that I use when I travel that handles all my gaming, modeling, etc. I'd like a laptop specifically for school that I will only use while I am on campus, where I don't usually do those things. On campus, I find that I only use my laptop for taking notes and some mild programming. I'm a fairly petite person (~90 pounds) and my back usually ends up hurting on the long treks across campus :( I have a degenerative eye condition as well, so display is pretty important. It's become really hard for me to see TN panels at all and the colors blend together on even a low quality IPS screen. Anything that has a good RGB and is generally vibrant is easiest for me to see. Hope these requests aren't too specific. I've been looking around a lot but haven't found a laptop that I really like. EDIT: would like to clarify that display is the most important thing to me due to my vision. Didn't think my post really said that woops submitted by /u/ComprehensiveRecover [link] [comments] |

I would love to have something dependable that hopefully lasts at least 6 years like my sony. something that is future-proof and has the latest USBs and wifi cards would be ideal thank you so much!! - Total budget and country of purchase:

~15" <$700 US for programming (web dev) Posted: 26 Apr 2018 11:07 PM PDT I'm currently considering the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM and getting an SSD. Please help with a recommendation Posted: 26 Apr 2018 06:16 PM PDT Hey guys I'm thinking of buying a new laptop since mine is about 5 years old. I'm going to be using this computer for university and work. Total budget and country of purchase: My budget is $500-$1000 and I will be ordering to a US adress Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. Preferably not a 2 in 1 form and will need a pretty decent battery. Maybe around 4-5 hrs. I do want to include an SSD and secondary HDD. VGA cable input or HDMI How important is weight and thinness to you? Would prefer a light computer but prefer specifications over lightness. Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Need windows. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Am gonna be working with MSProject and just for last year of uni will use inventor and AutoCAD but won't be the main use so these programs don't have to run that fast. If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? This will be my work laptop so no gaming Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Looking for a new laptop Posted: 26 Apr 2018 08:39 PM PDT As the title would suggest I'm looking to pick up a new computer, but first a bit of back-story: I'm currently working in a rather remote part of the world with heavy IT restrictions concerning internet traffic and bandwidth. I recently purchased an ASUS ROG machine with the 7th gen i7, GTX 1050-ti, etc; long story short, two months after receiving the device (and four months after actually buying it) it was left broken at no fault of its own. After browsing online I've looked at the big manufacturers (Asus, Acer, MSI, Etc.) in addition to the custom laptop market with Clevo barebones units (Origin, Sager, Xotic, D-Storm), and I would like to ask for the communities opinion of what would be worthwhile or not. So heres the deal, I'm looking for something with the following: * Total budget and country of purchase: -$1000-2200 USD / USA Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. -Best bang for the buck without sacrificing build quality; Battery life isn't too important as long as I can get by with 1-2 hours of minimal use such web-browsing How important is weight and thinness to you? -Not too important, but I would also like to be able to travel fairly easy Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. -Windows Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. -Anything 15-17ish inches Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. -I do a lot of photo editing, and gaming If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? -I play the Elder Scrolls series of games, Thief, GTA V, WoW, EvE Online, Battlefield, Bioshock series, Hitman, Etc. Ideally I would like to play most recent titles in high-ultra with decent FPS (60+ frames) - Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? -Build quality is my biggest concern, i'm in a location that is pretty unforgiving. A decent keyboard would also be appreciated, in addition a good trackpad would be wonderful (The one of my last Asus was complete garbage)

I'm interested in this MSI laptop https://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/computing/laptops/laptops/msi-ge62vr-15-6-intel-core-i7-gtx-1060-gaming-laptop-1-tb-hdd-128-gb-ssd-10158038-pdt.html But not sure how good it is, or if its worth the money. also I'd be tempted by a laptop which just had an SSD drive as i don't have a lot of data and could always buy an external hard drive for storage but this doesn't seem to be an option? Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate you taking the time to lend someone as cluelless as me a hand. submitted by /u/The-First-Enemy [link] [comments] |

Looking for a good laptop to take when I study abroad Posted: 26 Apr 2018 06:19 PM PDT Total budget and country of purchase: United States, max budget is ~$800 but I don't need to hit the budget if there's something better for cheaper Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply. I want the best specs possible, but also a good battery life. 2 in 1 factor is nice but not necessary. How important is weight and thinness to you? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux. Windows 10. Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A as long as it's 1080p Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? At what settings and FPS do you want? I don't really want a gamer laptop, but it'd be real nice if I could run things like PUBG and Overwatch. Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I would like the build quality to not feel cheap. Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
