are there any 7" tablets running nougat or better that are not junk (USA)? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 08:37 PM PST I'm not looking to spend $500+ on a tablet, but I'm certainly fine with spending more than $100 for a small android tablet running nougat or oreo. all tablets I see in the 7" category are either low-end devices like the SmarTab or older devices running kitkat or marshmallow. it's hard for me to understand how I can buy an unlocked octacore android phone running nougat with 3GB of RAM and a 1080p screen for $150, but there are no 7" tablets in the same ballpark. Way to move library from Apple Music to Google Play without going completely insane? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 12:27 PM PST I just bought Google Music today and I'm going to go completely mental if I have to manually search up all of my 1,000s of songs and download them one at a time lol. I've found an app (Soundiiiz) that'll let me transfer my playlists from Apple music to Google but the problem is I don't have all my music in any playlists. I thought no problem I'll just add all my music to one playlist in Apple music and transfer it but Apple Music shat itself and crashed after I added about 10% of my songs to a playlist and didn't save the playlist... Does anyone know of an easier way to transfer my whole library to Google Music or just any advice in general before I devote the rest of Christmas day to clicking download 700,000 times? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 07:19 PM PST Dearest Reddit, halp! My father has an old Samsung Galaxy Rugby (Xcover) that he's used for years and lovers. For Christmas I got him the Xcover4, and I have set everything up, moved contacts, etc. However; there's one issue I'm having and that's moving sms messages. You see, the old phone is on gingerbread and the new one is on nougat. I can't seem to find an app that's old enough to work on Gingerbread. I'd like to be able to export to xml in an older version of an app and import using a newer version of the same app. What does everyone suggest? [link] [comments] |
Best Phone Under $400 (CAD)? Any Help Would be Appreciated Posted: 25 Dec 2017 06:59 PM PST I used to have a Sony Experia XA Ultra and I was content with the phone, but recently it got absolutely demolished so I need a new one. Now I'm not very knowledgeable about new phones and all that so I thought I'd come here for your opinions. I only have about $400 CAD to spend on a new phone and I would really appreciate your opinions on what phone I should go with, most Google searches have pointed me in the direction of a moto g5 plus. Thank You! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Dec 2017 07:38 PM PST Today my kids were given Chinese tablets (Tagital T7K bought from Amazon if it's relevant) for Christmas by their grandparents. My daughter's works fine, except for shoddy battery life, but my son's will not boot. While I was setting up the tablet - installing apps, removing pre-installed apps, and disabling stock apps they won't use - the tablet froze after an uninstall. I did a power cycle (long-pressed power button), and when I was expecting a boot logo, I was greeted with a blank screen. No boot logo, just a black, back-lit screen. I have tried to access the Android recovery menu to no avail. I even looked into installing ADB and forcing a recovery boot that way, but since this issue happened within the first half hour of use, I did not enable USB debugging, so ADB would be a moot point. There is no exterior damage to the screen, so I'm thinking it's a software issue. Does anyone have any insight as to what I can do to try and get the tablet to boot, or should I just count it as a loss and buy him another higher quality tablet? [link] [comments] |

New to android, can I block data from apps? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 03:24 PM PST On iOS you could block apps from accesing data even while un the foreground. Can you do that on Android, preferably without rooting? [link] [comments] |
Is it possible to change the Bixby button to an alternate function on an S8? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 06:55 AM PST I don't have any interest in this program, can I change the button to do something else when i press it? My phone is unrooted [link] [comments] |

dropped my phone yesterday and there's purple liquid-like substance spreading across the screen Posted: 25 Dec 2017 09:55 PM PST Galaxy S6 (SM-G920W8), no sim card yet. Dropped it from my lap onto the floor of the car, which is only maybe a foot and a half in height, and it hit the harder plastic part closer to the door rather than the floormats. I had a cracked screen already, but there have been no issues with touchscreen responsiveness. Spiderwebbing crack, mostly small, tightly-packed cracks on the bottom right corner of the screen, with two or three long curved cracks from the bottom right to the left side of the screen, all ending below the volume buttons. Research into "purple ooze" on Samsung screens brings up lots of people saying the the liquid crystal screen and/or AMOLED screen is damaged, and leaking. Is there any way to replace this, or is the solution just a new phone? I don't mind having to go through the effort of replacing stuff myself, if it's doable. I have to see if there's other places where I live that can do repairs without it being stupidly expensive. The one place I stopped by at shortly after I cracked my screen told me it was going to be at least 300 to replace the screen. (I live in Calgary, if anyone has any recommendations for repair places) Please and thank you for help! [link] [comments] |
Decompiling encrypted obb file Posted: 25 Dec 2017 03:46 PM PST So I want to make some little modifications on the obb file of the game F1 2016. Sadly it isn't just a zip archive. I have opened the obb file in a hex editor and found the header "kpx", which I can't find any information about. Any help on how I could extract/decompile the obb file would be much appreciated. Xperia XZ1/Compact Users - How's the recent lens distortion fix working for you guys? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 10:12 AM PST Hi there! Long time Apple user looking to get my hands on an Android device. I'm very close to buy the XZ1 Compact because it fits all 3 of my criteria: small screen (5 inch or less), headphone jack, and a recent flagship processor (Snapdragon 835). However, the only thing preventing me from buying it is the fact that the camera seems to have lens distortion. I heard that Sony launched a software fix for the lens distortion, which is a toggleable option in the camera settings. How is the lens distortion fix working for you guys? Other reccommendations are also welcome! I was also attracted to the Google Pixel 2 too, but sadly it's not available in my country. [link] [comments] |

Amazon Notifications on Tablet Posted: 25 Dec 2017 08:54 PM PST I'm using a Nexus 7 and trying to set notifications for the Amazon Dash button in the Amazon shopping app. I can turn them on but it won't stay. If I go back a screen then it turns off again. Any ideas why? I did a full system wipe and it didn't fix the issue. All permissions are granted. I can turn them on in the app settings on my iPhone and on a Galaxy S8+ but for the life of me I can't get it on the tablet. I am running the most up to date OS available too. [link] [comments] |
gifted a pretty strange chinese android, any help on identifying it? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 02:44 PM PST https://i.imgur.com/z7QVkNe.png https://i.imgur.com/m57zp1v.png The timezone was in Shanghai automatically, and the packaging pretty much confirmed it was from an online seller. It probably cost less than $70 but hey it's the thought that counts. It's pretty much a bootleg stock android, I want to root it and flash a custom os on there but it'd help a lot if you could find out what exactly it is. The further I investigated the more abstract it seemed to get. Thanks! (Advice on rooting it is also appreciated). [link] [comments] |
Pixel 2 from Google instead of Verizon Posted: 25 Dec 2017 02:43 PM PST I am debating between the s8 and the pixel 2 to upgrade from the note 5. If I buy the pixel from Google it comes unlocked I believe, but what else is required to activate it? Is it as simple as contacting Verizon? Also, what are the key differences between the two phones? Majority of the specs seem pretty similar, but if one is notably better then I might just stick with that. [link] [comments] |
Want to get a OnePlus 5t, how to switch carriers? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 02:28 PM PST This may be a simple answer that I could find elsewhere, but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for when I searched. Here's the scenario: I currently own an iPhone 6S on verizon. I want to switch to android and get a OnePlus 5t. (I know I could get other android phones and stay on verizon, just please ignore that answer). In order to switch to a 5t, I would need to switch to a gsm carrier rather than the CDMA, meaning I would most likely go to at&t. How do I switch carriers from verizon to at&t all while keeping my number, but switching phones? I think this is simple enough when you already have a phone activated with your phone number, but is the process complicated by me trying to switch carriers with a blank phone that is not associated with my phone number? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Dec 2017 08:18 PM PST Looking at S8+ because of size. Comes with Nougat. Odd. Personal assistant that doesn't work, but will 'eventually.' Odd. Bloat. Not odd. Obscene price. This does not look well thought out. Looking for something larger and faster than LG G4. No bells or whistles. No Google. Might hold onto mine longer then... [link] [comments] |
Why does my facebook account re-activate on it's own? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 02:15 PM PST I deactivated my account some time ago and I learned that it was activated on it's own. I tried some other times only to find out several days later it would again reactivate. How can I stop that, am I missing some facebook option that does this ? I tried today to unlink any app and website I have been logged in with my facebook to see if that is the case. [link] [comments] |
Restore adopted storage (SD card) from Backup Posted: 25 Dec 2017 12:15 PM PST I'm running Android 7.1.2 (LineageOS) and used my SD card as adopted storage. Some time ago the SD card died, I couldn't write to it anymore (2nd SanDisk card, the same happened to my cameras one). Since I was still able to read it, I backed it up from my Linux box using dd and copied the key from /data/misc/vold to my PC. Afterwards I removed the external storage so I could use my phone without it. Now for Christmas I got a new card: Same size, different manufacturer (Samsung, I hope they are better). I restored the image using dd and copied the key back to /data/misc/vold using TWRP. Android is detecting it as adopted storage and doesn't complain, but it's neither really using it as such or is able to browse it. TWRP on the other hand is able to browse it without any problem. Is there a way to make android use it again? Favorable without dd-ing it again, this took some time and I guess write cycles. Thanks ahead, happy holidays! [link] [comments] |
Posted: 25 Dec 2017 08:42 AM PST My G5 took an unexpected tumble through my washing machine early this Christmas morning and now I'm out of a phone. I've been sick the past few days so I bundled my sheets together to wash them without realizing my phone was in with them and yeah... the rest is history. Now I'm looking at new phones. My G5 was having all of the typical G5 problems, screen burn, GPS drop off, charging issues, the whole lot. I'm curious which phones y'all would recommend? I'm looking for something that has expandable storage, doesn't have screen burn issues, and has a decent GPS chip. My provider is Verizon. I've been through 2 or 3 G5's prior and I'm done with that model. Any suggestions would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
Can you hide the "Swipe screen to open" text on the lock screen but keep the function? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 11:02 AM PST I'm on a Note 8 and wondering if there's any way to get rid of the text on the lock screen that says "swipe screen to open" without getting rid of the ability to actually swipe to open. I want to get rid of the text but keep the function. Is this possible? [link] [comments] |
When did OTA updates come to Android? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 10:02 AM PST I think I remember iPhones had to be updated through iTunes up until 2012 or something like that. When did OTA updates come to Android and what method(s) was used to update Android phones before OTA updates? [link] [comments] |
Desktop to Phone Music Organizer Program? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 05:29 PM PST I've been trying to search for a good one for months now. I switched to Android from Apple when the Pixel came out. I absolutely love iTunes for its customization options. I mainly want to put custom album art, type in composer names/artist names, and the published year. I'd like some thoughtful advice from users and not websites that try to promote their own third party programs. Thanks and have a merry Christmas. [link] [comments] |
How do I change the dates in the calender app to full color? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 01:42 PM PST When I set a specific time for a date in the calender app, the date loses the full color background and instead gets a nearly invisible stripe on the edge. This was different in a past version. [link] [comments] |
