Remove all the bloatware off a new $50 Amazon Fire 7 tablet using these commands Posted: 25 Dec 2017 02:44 PM PST My sister got a Amazon Fire 7 tablet for Christmas that she intends to use almost solely for watching TV (Netflix, Hulu, HBO Go, etc) and was complaining about all the bloat it came with that she didn't need. I created a bash file to remove all the bloat for her via ADB . If you copy the following lines into a text editor, save it as a .bat file, and then run on a computer with ADB, it removes all the Amazon bloat...
adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.parentalcontrols adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.calendar adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.photos adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.kindle adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.email adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.music adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.goodreads.kindle adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.personal_video adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.geo.client.maps adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.cloud9.systembrowserprovider adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.cloud9 adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.csapp adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.weather adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.ags.app adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.h2settingsfortablet adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.android.contacts adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 amazon.alexa.tablet adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.kindle.kso adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.audible.application.kindle adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.mp3 adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.tahoe adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.photos.importer adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.zico adb shell pm uninstall --user 0 com.amazon.dee.app
EDIT: Wow I feel dumb. I meant batch, not bash. I guess I still have my brain thinking in Linux-mode after my operating systems class final exam last week. Sorry for any confusion! These are just a bunch of adb commands and are platform agnostic. Execute them however you please [link] [comments]
Wish your Google Assistant a Merry Christmas for a few Easter eggs. Posted: 25 Dec 2017 10:18 AM PST I really enjoy the "Holiday Memories" it shares. I haven't gotten the Santa Tracker working yet. [link] [comments]
TIL Inbox by Gmail recognised "day of delivery" as a snooze day Posted: 25 Dec 2017 03:11 AM PST Image Edit to clarify: I received an email from Amazon for shipping confirmation of a few items. As I tend to archive most of my emails, I wanted to "snooze" this one for a later date. To my surprise, Inbox had already scanned my email and presented me with the additional option to snooze the email for the "day of delivery" which is this Wednesday. First time seeing such an option, so thought I'd share it. [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Dec 2017 03:18 AM PST Google should update assistant to ask the night before if you intend to get up at your regular wake up time when it's a common holiday during a weekday. Plus, Google can easily detect when you're traveling, which could be factored in as well [link] [comments]

What can you do with Google Home thay you cant do with your android phones Google Assistant? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 12:10 PM PST I'm conflicted in buying a Google home. But it seems waste because it seems like you can do the same thing on your phone. I'm interested in it not for the actual speaker/audio, but because of the cool commands, news, etc. But can't you do the same thing on Android Google assistant? [link] [comments]

Posted: 25 Dec 2017 04:54 AM PST Have had the U11+ for 3 days now, some thoughts as follows (previous phone was a OnePlus 2); Display Bright, vibrant and sharp. I am using it in sRBG mode, as I personally find P3 a little too saturated. P3 might become more viable as app developers start to implement Android's new colour management functions. The 18:9 aspect ratio is excellent for reading in portrait and video content in landscape. I prefer LCD over OLED, so find this display very pleasing. Battery life The 3930 mAh battery has been strong so far achieving between 7 - 7.5 hours screen on time, although this is mostly on WiFi. Standby time is also good - I didn't charge the phone overnight on one occasion, and had battery saver on, and the phone was at the same battery percentage the next morning. Speakers Impressive sound quality from the dual speaker setup, which gets very loud but is still clear. Cameras
Edge Sense Works as advertised. Activating Google Assistant as on the Pixel 2 is the same, but the additional customisable options seem useful, such as squeezing to zoom in maps and photos. Have not used Edge Sense extensively at this point though to really say if it's a killer feature or not yet. Design Minimalistic with good ergonomics - it's not as thick or heavy as I anticipated it might be. Obligatory 2017 thin bezels. The glass back can be slippery and becomes a smudgy mess very quickly. I am currently using a grippy sandstone like thin hard shell case by Anccer. [link] [comments]

Using Zenfone 4 Max 5.2". AMA! Posted: 25 Dec 2017 09:48 AM PST Alright, hear me out. I know that it's not a very new device nor the most anticipated smartphone that everyone wanted. This is just a simple AMA for people who wanted to know how Asus phones have become in 2017 (especially since the Zenfone 2 eras). Also, I don't live in USA but this thing costs around ~$160 there. Here I bought it for $158, converted. I'm going to make this quick and will just say that this is my favorite budget phone and definitely think that this phone is underrated. Especially the battery life. SOT with couple hours of YouTube and crazy hours of redditing + browsing With 61% battery left. Quick notes:
Used to own the Zenfone 2 Laser and have ever used the Zenfone 3 5.2", Zenfone 3 Max 5.5" and Zenfone 3 Laser for a bit. Ask me anything about the phone! And happy holidays to all of you! Update#1: Phone pics. Pic #2 Sorry for the tempered glass. Couldn't find a decent one. Update#2: Photo samples below. [link] [comments]
It's high time all the major app developers implement app shortcuts for their apps Posted: 25 Dec 2017 07:04 PM PST I think most of the apps don't effectively use or don't use the app shortcuts introduced in Android 7.1 Nougat. I use shortcuts for many apps like Youtube, Flamingo, Outlook, Spotify, Photos, Camera, Calls (Phone app). Here are some of the shortcuts I think should be implemented:
It's already Oreo and it's high time all the major app developers start implementing the app shortcuts. [link] [comments]
Do you use Google app to search? Posted: 25 Dec 2017 03:54 AM PST Hi, As you certainly noted since few years, native apps and web apps begins to clash in Google's head, as Google was originally fully behind webapps at the PC era (except for few exceptions). Now, when you are browsing many Google ressources from your smartphone, it brings you a popup to prefer to use the native apps associated. Even for Google Search, which leads to... websites anyway, and this conducts me to neglect native apps for Google Search. But I give it a try, as Google promotes me to do it. So I give up Google Search from Chrome and begins to use the native Google Search experience through the Google apps... and I don't grasp the concept. My browsing through a query to Google Search usually go to: 1) type some keywords and hit Search; 2) open many links in separated tabs ; 3) read them when I think I have a good amount of them to find my answer. With the native experience, each links is opened in a single WebView, so you can't open as tabs and navigation is like "Hit a link / Back or Close / Hit another link / Back or close... So even if I have a particular way to use Google Search, what are other benefits of the native app for Search? Maybe it's tied to a better integration with Google Assistant that I don't saw? Thanks for sharing your thought. [link] [comments]
