    Moronic Monday!

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 05:00 PM PDT

It's Monday, you've not yet had coffee and the week ahead is gonna suck. Let's open the floor for a weekly Stupid Questions Thread, so we can all ask those questions we're too embarrassed to ask!

Post your question - stupid or otherwise - here to get an answer. Anyone can post a question and the community as a whole is invited and encouraged to provide an answer. Serious answers are not expected.

Note: This post is created at 01:00 UTC. It may not be Monday where you are in the world, no need to comment on it.

WPA2 Enterprise issues with Unifi AP?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 07:46 PM PDT

I recently tried the WPA2 enterprise security method on my unifi access point (U6 Lite).

I found out that if WPA2 PSK is chosen, clients A and B can't see each other, eg a Lan scan will hide them, which is normal. But if I switched the same SSID security settings to WPA2 enterprise, client A and B can see others on the same SSID, and they can use lan scan to see the MAC address, and IP address of the connected clients on the same SSID( with the same Vlans), client A and B are tagged to VLAN 15.

Btw, I have confirmed that client isolation is enabled, hence client A can't ping Client B but client A can see client B's MAC address and IP address when client A run a Lan Scan.

P.S I am using PFsense for routing and FreeRadius.

Does anyone know is this a bug or not?

    Any recommendations are appreciated :)

I have a small company with less than 30 employees, what is the best switch model to use?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 11:54 PM PDT

Could anyone recommond it? I asked some friends have suggested that generally only h3c or tplink can be chosen. They said that the switch requirements are not high, as long as it is a gigabit switch can be. Rather, the main route to choose a better, preferably with behavior management and flow control functions. But I'm worried that it will affect future development.

Ideal top-of-rack router for half-rack colocation?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 11:02 PM PDT

Are there any recommendations for some cheap TOR switch that would be suitable for a half-rack? I'm currently thinking about going with an EX4200 off of ebay, but it's not ideal due to it being EOL and Juniper doesn't release firmware updates without a license.

Any recommendations are appreciated, ideally within about $150-$200.

I'll provide any details or clarification as needed, as networking has never quite been my thing and I'm not sure what details will be needed.

EDIT: I said router, but I meant switch - again, networking is not my thing. It just needs to be a 48 port switch with BGP & vLAN capability.

Custom NTP server, ISP disabled it.

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 10:36 PM PDT

Hi there, my ISP has turned off NTP because they are getting DDos attacks. Now when ever I turn in my smart tv or camera or any device its time and date is 1979/11/11 . Its every annoying that I have to manually set my time and date. If I don't set it manually my internet on that device does not work. Is there any way I can setup custom NTP in my wifi device so all devices connected to my wifi gets time sync and I don't have to change date again and again. Thanks

NGINX Proxy Manager Configuration for Omada Controller

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 09:06 PM PDT

Hi. I am trying to set up the Omada Controller page with NGINX Proxy Manager so I don't have to type the whole ip address:port into my browser to access the page, but for some reason it just won't work. I've done the exact same thing for a bunch of other selfhosted services, but Omada for some reason is the only one that doesn't work.

I've seen some solution (involving scripts) here but I'm using the GUI version of NGINX Proxy Manager and have no idea where to insert those scripts.

    Thank you in advance!

VLAN in vSphere VDS dropping pings?

    Posted: 05 Jun 2022 05:37 PM PDT

Note: this is all in a dev environment.

I finally got my LAG going in my VDS and physical switches, but ran into some trouble when changing the VLAN tag for my Management portgroup. I have Management/VMnetwork in VLAN 1 and when I changed it to that, I started seeing recurring ping drops for all the vmkernels.

The native VLAN on our ciscos is VLAN 1. I saw this vmware article about how you shouldn't assign a portgroup to the same native vlan as your physical switches. https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1004074

I just wanted to verify that this Caution note is the same as the scenario I am in right now or am I experiencing something else.

    Thank you!
