Just as an FYI and a 'don't bother with Cooler Master sponsored giveaways'. I was one of the 'lucky' winners of the r/buildapc 5 million subscriber giveaway. I was to receive the ML360P cooler.

Firstly the mods of this sub have been amazingly supportive. Anyone who is on their back over this - cmon, lets not. It's completely out of their control.

Secondly - we have all been waiting for months now. It took a month and a half for Cooler Master to reach out for contact details, and after collecting my personal info have ghosted me.

Finally - I have been nothing but cordial and polite with everyone that I have had communication with, including Cooler Master directly, the Cooler Master representative and (especially) the mods of this sub. I've not been pushy or aggressive, I've just enquired and requested.

I want to implore the community to be wary of offers, deals, events, videos and giveaways which are sponsored by Cooler Master. Having poked around the internet I have discovered that this is not the first time this has happened and likely won't be the last.

I was lucky. I only lost out on a new CPU cooler (though I admit a big big upgrade). I am aware of people who 'won' other giveaways and then spent money on hardware to support their prize, only to not receive the prize.

Not cool, Cooler Master. Not cool at all (kinda like my CPU... ;-) ).

Is there a better deal than a 3080 at $699? Got one coming and keep wondering if I missed out on something better value wise

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 11:41 AM PDT

Mostly interested in 3080 10gb, 3080 12gb, and a 3080ti. Was going to get an open box ti for around $1k-$1.2k but saw the FE at bestbuy go live for $699 and jumped on it. Even the partner 3080s are close to a grand. Just having slight buyers remorse. I was completely removed from wanting one until a few days ago so I'm way more out of the loop than I used to be. Upgrading from a 1070

Using a single 32 GB DDR4 ram stick?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 03:00 PM PDT

So my Motherboard screwed up for some reason and now only one of my ram stick slots works the way it should be working so I ordered a 32-gb ram stick instead of using 2 or 4 ram sticks cus as I said that's not an option anymore. Will there be any problems? Also no I can't fix the problem it's the Motherboard's fault I've tried 4 different ram sticks, updating bios, all combinations of slots and rams, taking my PC apart and rebuilding it and nothing fixed the 3 faulty ram slots so imma go with the easier option aka getting a single ram stick with the amount of ram I need instead of getting a new Motherboard cus I'm lazy. Ok so overall will there be any problems? My build is a RTX 2060 6gb, Ryzen 5600x, Motherboard is a prime b450 plus and I have a 550w PSU

IO shield metal prong? Remove it or leave it there?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 02:41 PM PDT

My motherboard is MSI b550 a pro and the IO shield looks like is pushing into one of my USB ports. Do I pry it back?

New PC - Keeping my old 1070ti & R5 case.

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 01:52 PM PDT

    Hey!

Quickly wanted some thoughts on my coming upgrade, further down the line I plan to pick up a 3070 to top it off but for now I just feel like I need an upgrade badly. My CPU currently which is a 7600k is permanently at 100% load and I can barely browse Youtube/Twitch while playing a game like WoW/BDO.
What I have in plan is this:

Some quick thoughts would be appreciated, I always 2nd guess myself a lot when it comes to a new build!

New to building a PC, would appreciate feedback

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 01:47 PM PDT

My main game is LoL, but I also play other games like FF14 and Path of Exile. Since I have the budget I'd like to go a bit over what I need, and if the build is good enough to play another game during queues reasonably that would be great. I'm looking for high fps 1440p. I have a budget of about $2000, with a hard cap at $2500. This is the build I drafted https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MBZjW4 I'm only set on trying to get a 3080, everything else I'm willing to change.

Help me build a PC with a $4k budget!

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 02:58 PM PDT

I'm looking to build a new PC setup for around $4,000. I will be using it mainly for 1440p/4K gaming and heavy Photoshop use. I am currently using a Lian Li Lancool II case and 32GB 3600mhz RAM which I plan to keep, but other than that, I will be needing entirely new parts (new motherboard, fans, CPU cooler, SSD, GPU, and power supply). I also would like to buy a new monitor or two as I only have two 60hz 1080p monitors.

Side note... I'm looking to get an RTX 3080ti card, but I'm unsure if I should get an Intel or AMD CPU. I've looked into it but it seems many people have wide-ranging opinions, so I'm trying to decide if Intel or AMD is going to be better for 4K gaming and Photoshop.

Any help is greatly appreciated, and if you'd like to suggest a complete build, that is greatly appreciated too!

    Pc intermittently won’t post

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 02:48 PM PDT

Sorry if this isn't the right place to post this. I upgraded to an rtx 3070Ti a while back and upgraded the psu to accommodate. Pc wouldn't post (cpu error light on mobo), got a replacement which worked for about a month and then had the same problem. Changed psu again to a different brand, that's worked for about 3 months but recently the pc hasn't always posted, sometimes requiring a few attempts to post. Today it's stopped posting all together, same cpu error light. I'm using an msi b450 tomahawk and a ryzen 3600, all of the power supplies have been reputable and plenty of wattage. Is it safe to assume it's probably a motherboard problem or is there something else it could be?

Edit: Crisis averted but I'll leave this up for anyone having a similar problem. I flashed the bios as a last ditch attempt to fix the problem and it seems to have worked, will have to see how stable it is though.

Put together this list for my second build, but now unsure about the AMD cpu ($1923)

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 02:46 PM PDT

    Build Help/Ready:

Have you read the sidebar and rules? (Please do)

    Yes, thank you.

What is your intended use for this build? The more details the better.

Blender, Unity, Substance Painter, Krita, gaming, streaming, and VR (HTC Vive)

If gaming, what kind of performance are you looking for? (Screen resolution, framerate, game settings)

I got gifted a LG 32GK650F-B monitor so I have that on hand, perhaps something that compliments that? (Or vice versa) I want to be able to play on the highest settings without any problems and not have to upgrade this PC for a long loooong time.

What is your budget (ballpark is okay)?

$2,000 but can stretch up to $2,300 if I get more bang for my buck.

In what country are you purchasing your parts?

    USA

Post a draft of your potential build here (specific parts please). Don't ask to be spoonfed a build (read the rules!).

    PC Part Picker List

Provide any additional details you wish below.

I have the Noctua NH-U12S 55 CFM CPU Cooler from my old build. I put together this PC Part Picker list by myself and this will be my second build, the first one being from 2014. I'm very iffy about the CPU I have in this list now though and looking for another recommendation. Is AMD not good anymore?

Can you put a PCIE cable backwards?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 12:32 PM PDT

So I have a Galax 3060 Ti OC and it's my first time that I have installed (or even handle) a gpu. I saw that the pcie cable has a lock thingy and the gpu also has a place for that lock. I can't insert the pcie cable into the correct position (the lock thing of the pcie cable into the lock notch of the gpu) so what I did is I inserted the cable backwards (the lock of the pcie cable is in the bottom side and the lock notch of the gpu is on the upper) and it worked fine. Should I take the cable out? I'm afraid that it will cause me trouble in the future.

ps: sry for my bad english

this is what it looks like (the latch of the cable isn't inserted at its place)

do i need to buy a usb-a gen 1 to gen 2 adapter?

    Posted: 17 Jun 2022 02:38 PM PDT

while building my pc i got these notes

    • aNote: A USB 2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter is required.
    • bNote: A USB 3.2 Gen 1 to USB 3.2 Gen 2 header adapter is required.

    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NKJRFg

I dont mind losing the usb-c, but would i still be able to use the usb-a without the adapter? i dont mind losing speed or whatever as long as it works and is responsive since ill just be plugging in like a controller there. Note B is the usb-a one that im worried about

please dont reply with advice for better parts, i already own most of the parts here, just upgrading
