Need the best laptop for gaming and video editing

Need the best laptop for gaming and video editing

    Posted: 27 May 2022 07:12 AM PDT

I posted earlier as the guy who needs the "best gaming laptop regardless of cost" and I did get a lot of great suggestions from you guys but I just had a hard time deciding on the suggestions so I just thought to post again in hopes someone else might have the perfect laptop I'm looking for.

Like before I'm looking for the best gaming laptop in terms of performance and battery. But unlike Last time I recently got classes for advanced video editing and need something that can handle very strong editing softwares and can render them properly. I'm looking at laptops with core i9 12 gen and rtx 3080 ti. But now I'm also looking for a screen with atleast 1440p and good Color accuracy with good contrast and hdr. I'm also looking for a device with average battery life(just enough to get through classes). For the longest time I've been looking at the msi ge76 raider but then I found out it doesn't have a good screen for editing video or photo as it has low Color accuracy and low hdr and contrast. So now I'm looking at the razed blade 17 as it has a beautiful 4k panel and exceptional power but I've seen it gets very uncomfortably hot. I'm willing to sacrifice a little performance in gaming for a good screen for video editing

In conclusion, I'm looking for the best gaming and video editing laptop regardless of price.

P.s atleast 1tb of ssd, 32gb ddr5 ram. Size preference is 14 to 17 inches.

Pp.s if the razor is good for video editing then I can get over the cooling problems.

    PC latptop recs?

    Posted: 27 May 2022 01:59 PM PDT

Hi! Sorry I'm so clueless with this stuff so I'm not gonna know all the terminology.

For the past five years I've been using a corrupted 2015 macbook pro that only runs windows 10 I installed with bootcamp to play video games LOL and needless to say it's been on its last legs for a while now.

i really like windows so I want to get a PC laptop for school and general use, which includes browsing/using the internet (obv), using zoom, microsoft office, running certain software like GIS and basic code editors like VS code, and playing games (nothing too big, maybe 60 gbs max).

I'm willing to invest in something that's durable and will last long, but nothing over $1500 (which is already pretty high for me).

Thanks so much, I appreciate any input.

also sry i just noticed the title typo lol

Looking for Slim, Slick Laptop Capable of Moderate Gaming

    Posted: 27 May 2022 01:15 PM PDT

Not very tech oriented, so a lot of words about processors and so on go over my head. I'm looking for something easily portable with a touchscreen capable of doing some moderate gaming well. I'm mostly interested in making sure it can play CKIII and Gloomhaven comfortably. Used to have a Dell XPS and I loved how it could fold and be used as a tablet, but it died from running Hades, which was awful.

Low budget TUF Or Other suggestions

    Posted: 27 May 2022 03:53 PM PDT

Hi, I hope that this text finds you well. I've come here to ask about your opinions on a laptop I'm looking to buy. I was considering a TUF A15, but after doing some research, it turns out it has a lot of overheating problems. And poor color Gamut. I want to be oriented toward a good choice. I'm looking for something that can last a couple of years in the future with a good battery, powerful enough to play AAA Games (Elden ring, COD) also an excellent screen to edit pictures and do design. Any recommendations would be appreciated

Laptop around £1000-£1600 for games programmers

    Posted: 27 May 2022 11:41 AM PDT

Hello everyone, Im going into my final year of university after summer as a games programming student. For most of my time I have been using a HP Omen 15 and would like to make an upgrade at some point as I can see problems beginning with my current laptop. Im looking for a laptop that would be good for games programming so something thats got good battery, can run ue5 & unity well and overall just a good laptop that wont burn my hands when I try to pick it up.

I have had a look around and theres lots of people suggesting Macbooks but im not sure if I should make that switch. I've also seen people suggest Razer, Alienware but I have also spent sometime looking and the Windows Surface range and I'm really just trying to find something that would be best for me!

    Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

need a non-gaming laptop for both gaming and a few other stuff

    Posted: 27 May 2022 03:24 PM PDT

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: 2000 Brazilian reals, don't think this one matters as long as i save money.

Are you open to refurbs/used? Not open to refurbs, open to used if there aren't any scratches/heavy signs of use or hardware problems

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Clamshell, don't know about build quality but I don't want a laptop that feels like plastic, performance needs to atleast run steam games without too much stuttering even on lowest settings, I want a decent/good battery life

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not sure about this one, as long as it's durable then I'm fine with any weight

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. -fill here, remove dashes-

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Roblox, a few steam games, paint.net, Sony Vegas.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

As long as it runs good and has no stuttering or major fps drops, then yes.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

good keyboard, build quality and durability.

Not-so-necessary requirements: comes originally with windows 7/8.1 has a blue variation/color

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I want a non-gaming laptop because I don't really like the design of most gaming laptops and I want the battery life to be good too

Looking for somewhat of a gaming laptop

    Posted: 27 May 2022 03:10 PM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:
      <$800 (USD, United States) preferably.
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?
Not to refurbs but open to used ones kept in good condition.
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
Somewhat of a sleek design, decent build quality, nice gaming performance. Basically anything that isn't this humongous melting machine. I prefer a laptop as I'm going off to university soon and I want to keep things as compact as possible.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
Not a big deal but I definitely would prefer something under 6 pounds.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
      N/A
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
      Just light gaming
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
For me personally, I just would like to be able to run the Sims series (2,3,4), maybe occasionally Apex or Valorant, Nothing wild or out of this world.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
      Not really
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
Honestly I'm not looking to splurge out of this world on this laptop. I already have a MacBook for school but I do not trust it for gaming at all, not even light gaming as it gets pretty hot. Much of my more serious gaming is also done on my Playstation, so I've just been looking into some laptops to do some good gaming whenever I want to play with my PC friends. At the very minimum I would like it to be able to handle the Sims on high settings, but I also like the comfort of it being able to handle almost anything I throw at it if the need is ever there. I've been looking at three laptops so far but I've seen pretty mixed reviews on all of them:
      • Acer Nitro 5: Intel Core i5-10300H 2.50GHz, 8GB RAM, 512GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650Ti 4GB
      • ASUS Tuf Gaming F15: Intel Core i5-10300H Processor, GeForce GTX 1650, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 512GB PCIe SSD
      • HP Pavilion 15 Gaming: Intel Core i5-9300H Processor, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4 GB), 8 GB SDRAM, 256 GB SSD
      • I've also heard that the Lenovo Ideapad i3 Gaming is also good, I honestly haven't done much research about it because I'm kind of skeptical about Lenovo. I'm not super into the PC world anymore, but when I was I never knew Lenovo to have a strong gaming line so I guess the times have changed.

I would be willing to save money to invest in something that's better if need be, but I honestly didn't think the need was there as I'm not serious with PC gaming at all. Any recommendations are appreciated.

Looking for a good laptop to be able to use for Job and personal usage

    Posted: 27 May 2022 02:54 PM PDT

This is both for work/job and for my personal eduction.

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Around ~£500 though I can be convinced to spend some extra funds if the laptop fits the wants listed below.

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Yes to refurbs. Open to used but must be relatively cheap.

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I would prioritise my laptop with the following (most to least important):

    • Long build life
    • Runs on Windows so I can set up a dual boot with Linux (Windows for work/job & Linux for personal use (you can decide what Linux Distro is best though I'm leaning towards Linux Mint Cinnamon. You can also decide how much Space the laptop should have as I am editing 100's of pictures for my portfolio. For my job, it will consist exclusively of using Excel, Word, and day to day office environment tasks (as in my job in an office, not Microsoft Office)))
    • Average battery time (for reasons in point 2)
    • Good screen size (14" ideally but willing to compromise if above points are met)

    No 2 in 1, please.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I would like it relatively thin. Surface Laptops are a good size.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    14"

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Photo editing in Windows and Linux.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

      N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Not in importance as these are some must haves:

    • Easy to use keyboard, i.e. keys are sturdy

    • Has USB Type A and USB Type C ports

    • SSD storage

Would also love a fingerprint reader, but this is not a must like the above list.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Thank you so much. I appreciate the help.

    I need a business laptop

    Posted: 27 May 2022 01:58 PM PDT

Hi guys, I hope you are well. I'm currently using a tab s7+ for work, as I mostly meet people at coffee shops and am always on the go. I can't stand mobile excel and there are some features only desktop version has available. That's why I'm looking to buy a laptop for work. If you don't mind I will list things I find important: Ultra portable: i have a workstation on my office, so first priority is weight and form factor Power: i5/8Gb ram minimum USB c charging preferred The less bezel it has, the better OLED screen would be a treat

Looking for a laptop for school and work(programming), Europe 1000-2000EUR

    Posted: 27 May 2022 10:05 AM PDT

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?I want to buy only new
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
    • No factor is too important for me, I would like a good balance of being not too heavy and being able to perform the tasks I demand of it. It would be preferable for the battery to last at least 8 hours.
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?
    • I will be carrying around in my backpack all day so it shouldn't be thick and heavy.
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.
    • 14-15"
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
    • I have a very specific use case for it and it will be the most demanding one. I will run WSL2(Windows Subsystem for Linux) on the machine as I want a Linux environment when coding. I will also be concurrently running VS Code, a Javascript bundler and a PHP server along with a dozen Chrome tabs. For reference, my 32GB Ryzen 5 3600X handles it perfectly.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?
    • I want a good trackpad and keyboard as I would prefer to use it in any position I want without added perifferals. It should be QUIET because I will be using it in a lecture hall and/or library.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
    • This will be used for university and working my web development job on the go. I will mostly have access to outlets but don't want to charge it every couple of hours. It is prefferable that it is light and thin in order to not strain my back.
    • I also want to add the dilema if I should buy an 11th gen Intel/Ryzen 5000 series or spend a bit more money for 12th gen? What is the difference in battery life or performance?

Need Laptop for Gaming and Art Programs

    Posted: 27 May 2022 01:23 PM PDT

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    800-1000 USD

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I'm not sure what build quality is, performance matters since I want to use it for gaming and art programs I may need for work and school. Good battery would be nice, though I intend to mostly keep my laptop at home.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not too heavy or thin about 3 pounds.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

13 inches, doesn't have to be a big screen.

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Hollow Knight: Silksong, Photoshop, steam games, and Minecraft.

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Doesn't have to be amazingly smooth but I just want to make sure there's no lag or frames dropping when I play games, or any crashes.

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Don't want the keys of the keyboard to fall out, don't want a touch screen or fingerprint reader at all, nothing like a tablet and more like a desktop computer. I'll need an optical drive. I also want to be able to connect a Ps4 controller to the laptop while gaming.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I don't want it to be like a mac book material, I don't like the aluminum metal those are made of. And I need something where I can add a night mode/warm tint to the screen. Something I can also put a case on, long durability for years to come. I have a 13inch MacBook Air from Early 2014 that functions like a laptop I'd be looking for except that it's outdated and is made of aluminum. I also want to stick with Windows instead of IOS. Need a webcam for zoom meetings, and bluetooth. It'd be nice if it also wasn't short on storage.

    Need a new laptop

    Posted: 27 May 2022 01:12 PM PDT

My laptop is getting worse as time goes on, and I think I need to get a new one soon. Saw there was a subreddit on here for laptop suggestions and wanted to ask what is a not too expensive option for what I am going to be using it for. Aside from using firefox or chrome and leaving way too many tabs open when I have online college classes, I will tend to have a good amount of long word documents open at most times that i am working on. I will also occasionally be making stuff on photoshop and have recently gotten into 3d printing as a hobby, so I will likely regularly be using something like blender to create or modify models and cura to slice the files. Lastly, for fun I am occasionally going to be playing windows edition Minecraft on the laptop, and also like to play some of the older star wars gsmes from the early 2000's, like KOTOR, bf2, and the jedi knight games.

Looking for a laptop for college. Nothing fancy, just some thing that has good battery life, is lightweight, and will get the job done. Preferably around $300! Whatcha got??

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    • Are you open to refurbs/used?

Not really, I wanted something new.

    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I wanted to perform really good, long battery life, lightweight, and two in one wouldn't be terrible thought I don't prefer it.

    • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Very important, can be similar to a Chromebook though.

    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    N/A

    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Nope. Just the basic Microsoft programs, and occasional Netflix/Disney+

    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    N/A

    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

    I want a touch pad.

    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

I am not very computer minded, and I was actually going to get a MacBook. But all of my college professors tend to use Microsoft programs, so I was told a MacBook wouldn't be great. All suggestions are welcome and I will appreciate the advice!

Need Windows Laptop For Programming/Minecraft/OBS (long battery, 14”+ screen)

    Posted: 27 May 2022 11:45 AM PDT

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

    $800-$1400 USD

    Are you open to refurbs/used?

    No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Battery life is very important. Id like to get 8-10 hours while I have chrome and a programming software open. Then 5+ hours if I have minecraft open aswell.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

    N/A

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    Prefer 15"+. Minimum is 14".

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Minecraft, OBS, Eclipse, Visual Studio. I don't care if I have to plug it in for better performance like if I were to be multitasking. Such as having Minecraft, Chrome, Eclipse, and OBS recording my screen for a video.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Multiple Minecraft Tabs. Medium graphics, between 30-60 fps is good for when 1 Minecraft Tab is open with OBS. Again I don't care if I have to plug it in to get better performance.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Backlit or light up keyboard if possible. Webcam would be nice but not essential.

    Other stuff

    5g wifi if possible.

Laptop Recommendation (Light gaming + Watching Videos)

    Posted: 27 May 2022 11:32 AM PDT

Hello, I'm not sure if this is too much to ask for but I want a laptop for when I'm away from my PC. I will be mainly using it for watching videos/sport events and light gaming. My budget is anywhere below $1000 CAD. I am in Canada and already have a great PC but I know nothing about laptops and could use some recommendation/input.

    Requirements

High Priority: -fairly portable (not too large but enough to have a good display) -decent internal storage (ideally 500gb range) -good display (ideally 1440p ips) -able to run not too demanding games and optimized games

Bonus: -good audio from built in speakers -high refresh rate screen -I WOULD LOVE THOSE FOLDING LAPTOPS THAT CAN TURN INTO ONE BIG SCREEN/TABLET (ie. HP Envy x360 13)

my main priority is not to game on these laptops but I would love to have the ability to run some games on it. My main concern is it having a good display.

Would love to hear your thoughts/recommendations and thanks in advance.

Looking for a laptop for uni! For engineering <£1000 and UK based

    Posted: 27 May 2022 10:12 AM PDT

Hi, I'm currently in final year of sixth form and looking for laptops to use in uni. Also, is it better to wait to get a student email for discounts to get better deals? Thank you!

    LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

    • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:About £600-£1000
    • Are you open to refurbs/used?No thank you
    • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?Build quality - reliable and should be long-lasting > Performance > Battery life
    • How important is weight and thinness to you?It should be light enough to carry around uni and not too stocky
    • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.N/A
    • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Will use CAD software (solidworks and fusion 360) and probably play some games.
    • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?Valorant, RimWorld, Factorio and Stardew Valley. I'd like to stably run 60fps on low-medium settings.
    • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?Would like it to last for atleast 4 hours for low-demand tasks such as microsoft word. 16gb RAM and an SSD of atleast 512gb. Again, the build quality should be reliable - durable hinges and healthy battery life.
    • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.Windows OS please!

Family member that's in a different country asked last minute for a laptop, they want touchscreen and have a budget of $650. They will mostly use it for whatever old people do on computers, streaming and web browsing. Between these 3 laptops which one seems to be the most durable and worth the money.

    Thanks
