Initial lag when starting to scroll with mouse

    Posted: 05 Apr 2022 04:43 PM PDT

I am on the latest Windows 10 version and Graphics Drivers from Nvidia. There is an initial lag/delay when I scroll if I haven't scrolled for ~5-10 seconds. After that, it's fine. But every time I scroll after being idle, it lags.

    Any help would be appreciated

Windows 10 Constant Black Screen & Auto Repair, Unable to Get to Login

    Posted: 05 Apr 2022 03:49 PM PDT

I hope I'm looking for help in the right place... Google-searching can be very unhelpful sometimes. I am also very unfamiliar with a lot of computer terminology, so I need a lot of explaining in simple terms. If I knew anything about computers I wouldn't be looking for help like I am now.

I use Windows 10 on an Asus computer. It was working "fine" several days ago, had a BSOD one night (restarting the computer helped), then a day or two later it began to load with a black screen. No mouse, no Task Manager. The Asus logo comes on as it loads but rather than show the login screen I get a black screen. That, or it will load in the automatic repair, which always suggests I restart the computer or choose an advanced option.

Another problem is that I can't use most of these options as it requires my password. I do not have / do not remember my local password. I switched to a PIN after I had the computer set up a long time ago. Apparently this type of account is not connected to the Microsoft email it uses? I tried to use my Microsoft account password for the login and was told that it was incorrect.

    Here is what I've tried:

Restarting > Repeated Black Screen or Automatic Repair

Using a USB Drive to Repair > Error / Failed (probably should have taken a photo of the message...)

Startup Repair > Needs a Local Password

Resetting the Computer > Needs a Local Password

Restore Previous Version > Needs a Local Password...

    Command Prompt > *Local Password.

This black screen issue has happened several months ago, but my brother was able to help me restore it to an older point (don't remember how as it requires the account's local password).

I say it worked "fine" in quotations as it would still have issues when booting after the first fix. Every time I went to turn it on the black screen issue would come up until I turned it off/on a second time and only then would it load normally. That was probably a red flag...

Is there a way I can bypass the account's "local password"? Or at least fix this booting issue?

If at all possible, I do NOT want to lose my personal files. If this means having to get a completely new computer, I will deal with that. I am mostly concerned over access to my files.

As far as I know, there were no viruses found on the system last time I scanned it. Did not download anything recently, either.

If it helps: I was told by my brother that my computer's graphics card isn't good (this was his old PC: he took the original graphics card out and must have given me a weird one). I'm afraid it might be part of the issue, besides that the computer itself is old (6 years). I might be able to get some more information from him if needed.

*I am also able to open command prompt through the USB, though the drive is "X:\" rather than the usual "C:\" drive.

Just in case, if I'm asking in the wrong sub, can someone direct me to the right place?

Edit1: Trying to boot into safemode results in a BSOD, then return to automatic repair.

Got a malware, deleted a lot of files, files are in ransom

    Posted: 05 Apr 2022 09:05 AM PDT

This happened in a span of approximately 6 hours.. I tried installing a cracked version of a video editor, turns out it had malware.. I panicked so much I ended up trying to combat it by deleting files it installed or affected.. Anyway, it didnt work.. ended up using Kaspersky and malwarebytes and as of now, it was effective in removing a lot of the viruses.. However, I also got ransomware.. Im not sure I can retrieve my files but my main concern would be completely eliminating the malware from my computer.. Can anyone help me with this?

Note: The viruses that were installed were 4A5E.exe, Find-it pro, Adware.neoreklami, Backdoor.farfli, and many jumbled up letters. These were based on my AV reports.

    Maybe hacked??

    Posted: 05 Apr 2022 12:15 PM PDT

So, I purchased the sleep cycle app for my iPhone last week. Works well. When I went to bed last night I put my phone on airplane mode. When I woke up this morning it recorded talking activity except it isn't me. Lots of background noise on two recordings but it sounds like a different language and another that's clear - a man, in English singing a little singsong. Then there's numerous recordings of soft snoring. They may be me but sound different than previous nights snoring. What's going on???

PC Boots Up to Black Screen

    Posted: 05 Apr 2022 12:44 AM PDT

So I was attempting to play an older game on my PC and while fiddling with the resolution settings it crashed to a black screen. Ctrl, Alt, Del didn't work nor did Alt+Tab so I restarted it manually. Now everytime I boot up my PC it goes to a black screen. No logos or anything. It will cut out to no signal once then right back to black. I've tried to boot in safe mode, but I can't even see the logo to press anything, and trying to turn it off via the power button 3 times at the logo also seems to be impossible as again there's no logo. I'm really worried something got fried here so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Audio Issue with Nvidia shield/hisense 65u7g/Sonos Arc surround setup

    Posted: 04 Apr 2022 06:38 PM PDT

Hi y'all, I really hope someone can identify/help me with my problem as I have searched but not seen anyone else with the same issue on reddit or elsewhere.

my setup is 2019 Nvidia shield pro connecting to my tv via HDMI and my tv connecting my Sonos Arc via EArc with Earc toggled on and in passthrough mode. when I first turn the system on, it works fine. When I play content in dolby surround (I am not sure if it happens with DTS as I don't have any content in DTS audio), whether it be my own files or a streaming app, the audio works fine.

However, when go back to the menu, the system sounds and anything in stereo pcm such as YouTube sound comes out extremely crackly and poppy to the point it might even damage the speakers. the strange thing is that when I go back to dolby surround content, everything sounds fine, but the only way to fix the system sounds and YouTube (and I assume anything not encoded in dolby audio), is to turn off Earc, or switch from passthrough to auto and then back to passthrough in the TV settings.

Some other interesting things, if I turn on dolby audio processing in the Nvidia shield, the problem stops, so I think it has something to do with the passing of unprocessed audio. I've tried using different HDMI ports for the shield and that doesn't help. I bought all new high-end HDMI cords capable of passing 48gb/s and the issue has persisted.

any help/insight/theories would be greatly appreciated as I am not even sure who's customer service to reach out to as I can't quite tell where the problem is.

    Dead Dell C565C Battery

    Posted: 04 Apr 2022 04:06 PM PDT

I have a "new" Dell C565C battery that's dead as a doornail. Anybody here know what contacts are pos and neg to try to jump-start it with say 5 volts? I don't know if it can be done outside the case but why not ask? It's an eBay "find" so I don't want to cut it open to spoil a return. Thx for any pointers.
