Advice on getting new laptop needed Posted: 05 Mar 2022 11:54 AM PST Hello! I'm looking to buy a new laptop and need some pointers as to which brands / models to look at. I haven't bought a laptop in a while. Back then, I only trusted Lenovo and Dell, and heard horrible things about HP (I currently have a Lenovo Y700). Now I see so many brands offering similar specs and I wonder which brand and model I should look into. I don't need a laptop for gaming or work, I'm just looking for something reliable and not too expensive to do everyday things (admin, movies, etc). Some specs I would like are: - Something like an i5 processor. - SSD is a must, 512GB would be enough. - 4K / UHD screen if possible. - 8GB of ram should be enough If anyone has any recent experiences to share or tips on where to buy from please comment! Thanks! [link] [comments]

Posted: 05 Mar 2022 02:45 PM PST In December I purchased a new Samsung Galaxy book with Windows 11. I have been using microsoft edge and have encountered a very frustrating problem with it. I am completely unable to delete my suggestions in my search bar history. I have googled this. Tried all the advice, tried changing settings and clearing search history every which way, yet if I begin typing in the edge search field, previous searches starting with the first letter will drop down. I paid 900 dollars only to have my god damn porn searches permanently hot-keyed in the search field on an everyday use/family friendly fucking machine. Very frustrated. Thanks all. Which of these laptops should I buy? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 02:14 PM PST I'm looking for help with buying a new laptop. I've narrowed my options down to 3 and am looking for some advice on which is the best value. To my none tech savvy brain, they all look similar. The laptop will be used daily for work and a small amount of gaming. Any advice would be appreciated! [link] [comments]

Non-proprietary laptop screen? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 11:30 AM PST Hey! I am trying to make a custom laptop using a Raspberry Pi. However, I need a screen for this. Where can I get a non-proprietary screen to do this? How much is the average price for one? [link] [comments]
Opera GX for laptop battery life? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 10:49 AM PST I have an HP Omen 15 that I've been using for school and the battery life is decent. I use Edge and depending on how many tabs I have open I can get anywhere from 4-7 hours. Some days when I need to have a lot of tabs open my laptop ends up dying really quickly so I was wondering if I should switch to Opera GX to get better battery life? [link] [comments]
Matebook D15 for 630 dollars, does it worth in 2022? Posted: 05 Mar 2022 10:33 AM PST I can find this laptop in my country for 630 dollars. Core I5 10th gen, 512gb, 8gb. Does it worth? The only thing that worries me is that you can't upgrade the ram. Will this mean that the laptop will be "useless" in a few years? [link] [comments]
Increasing a laptop battery capacity. Posted: 05 Mar 2022 10:20 AM PST I understand how laptop batteries works in general. Mine for example has 3 18650 cells in series accounting for 11.1v when the battery us empty (3.7v each) and when full 4.2v each. The battery's little board takes the positive and the negative terminal from the end and beginning of these 3 batteries in series. And have a wire connected between each 2 batteries of the 3 in series, which is used for stabilization when any battery have a different from any of the 2 other batteries. Such systems can be found on aliexpress and are called "BMS" And are defined by 3s 2s or 4s which expresses the number of batteries cells in series. My question is the following. If I want to connect instead of each one of these batteries in series 4 batteries in parallel. Like this : https://i.imgur.com/LG0IRA4.jpg https://imgur.com/pBBVATg My understanding is that this will theoretically be like increasing the capacity of each battery 4 times whike having the same connection. Is that correct? Will this put more load on the laptop motherboard to provide more current while changing and thus it gets burned somewhere or it won't? Is the current limited by the charging adapter (rated output 3Amps at 19v)? Am I missing anything else? Note : I am adding the additional battery through wires outside the laptop. I don't mind it taking longer to charge as long as it lasts longer. [link] [comments]
Switching windows installed SSD between laptops with OEM windows Posted: 05 Mar 2022 10:17 AM PST I want to switch the windows installed M2 SSD between 2 laptops (dell precision 3530). Inspiron 3501 fan/thermal management glitch. Posted: 05 Mar 2022 10:14 AM PST A while back, my laptop (purchased June 2021) started running it's fan on full blast at the most unfitting times - with the lid shut at midnight, or while I'm doing light tasks like watching YouTube. It's become a problem at school during quiet work times as well as keeping me up at night. I either have to shut it down or put it in the closet. I've opened up the bottom panel and cleaned it (it was clean to begin with). I've updated drivers from the dell website. Today I checked the temperature as I did different things. It hovered around 30 degrees C while I browsed the web - fan on full blast. Then I started up a game, temps shot up to 60 C - fan suddenly slowed down to a minimum and was quiet. Completely baffling. Any ideas? [link] [comments]
i7-11390H vs Ryzen 7 5800H for 4K HDR streaming Posted: 05 Mar 2022 09:48 AM PST Hi, I'm looking to buy an OLED Laptop so I can watch my UHD Blu-ray Remuxes on it. I know, OLED on Laptops with so many static elements? But it will only be used as a media consumption device so I don't worry about burn in at all. There's nothing else in this form factor with OLED besides Samsung's tablets but their calibration sucks. I'm really considering the Mi Notebook Pro 15 as it's the best bang for the buck and my use case, however I'm not sure if I should go with Intel or AMD. (One of) the Intel version(s) comes with an i7-11390H (4C/8T) together with a Nvidia MX450 and the integrated Iris Xe Graphics G7 96EU. The AMD version uses a Ryzen 7 5800H (8C/16T) and comes only with the integrated Radeon RX Vega 8 from 2018. Intel version is $200 more expensive. So what do I do, go for the better CPU or better GPU? I don't want to game on the laptop or do anything else besides watch (HDR) content on it, but I heard the i7-11390H has better hardware acceleration and AMD's HDR implementation can be broken at times. Which one would you pick? [link] [comments]
