ethernet on pc slower than supposed to be and slower than wifi on phone Posted: 07 Mar 2022 02:11 PM PST i built a pc a couple months ago (all latest hardware) and i have a new wifi router. Ive noticed that the internet coming from the ethernet to my pc is slower than it should be (80 vs almost 500mb/s) but my phone can get around 200 wirelessly, and the router app tells me the internet is 450Mb/s. what could the problem be? drivers? ethernet cable? the ethernet ports on the mobo/router? Posted: 07 Mar 2022 12:29 PM PST Two channels we had before aren't locked and the power levels are ass. (Our power levels indeed used to be higher. However, those two unlocked channels also dropped SNR to sub-36 frequently and had the most uncorrectables.) But we were previously getting intermittently flooded with uncorrectables, so it's CURRENTLY an improvement. The change makes me think there was a failing splitter somewhere on the block, and when they replaced it, they gave us a worse tap. These stats aren't with it run directly to the modem, but there's only one splitter in the house and that splitter has to stay, so no dice there. I'm mainly scared that even though everything looks fine right now, the second the temp changes from the daytime 70s into nighttime 30s, the connection will go to shit. Should I wait and see or call a tech asap? [link] [comments]
RJ45 Wall Jacks Have only 2 wires connected Posted: 07 Mar 2022 03:16 PM PST Forgive my complete ignorance, but web search has let me down. My house is wired for Ethernet, and the previous owners didn't label anything. I'm trying to sort it all out, but ive found a LOT of wall jacks with cat5e cables feeding them, but only two wires connected to the jacks, always blue/blue-white pair, always in I have no idea what these are for, and would like to just eliminate them if i can. Any advice is appreciated. [link] [comments]
Looking to replace my xfinity modem/router so I can stop paying rental fees Posted: 07 Mar 2022 10:50 AM PST Hi, I know similar questions have been asked but when I search all I see is people who want better speed or range. I want neither of those, I just don't want to pay $10 a month forever. I'm not too concerned about speed as I can hardwire my Xbox and that's the only really speed dependent thing. From there do I need docsis 3.1? I really just want to get the cheapest setup possible so that the $10 a month I save pays for itself quickly, but I'm willing to spend a little so that I don't just buy the crappiest lowest option. I guess my budget would be about $200. My speed is 100 mbp/s. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks. [link] [comments]
Billions of Correctables over a few hours Posted: 07 Mar 2022 02:33 PM PST I know correctables are common, but I have never seen this before. I have one channel with nearly 3 billion correctables in ~3hrs, with no uncorrectables. The modulation is other, rather than qam256 which I think is causing the issue However I am not seeing any issues with my gig cable internet. Is this something to worry about and to get a service call for? [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Mar 2022 11:50 AM PST Any request a VM makes, even if it's spoofing a MAC, would also show as a request from the host, correct? Example, VM asks form a 4GB file at 1:47am. Host should show same request for same amount at the same time. I am pretty sure this is correct. Is there anyway to obscure the connection between the VM and host? [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Mar 2022 02:00 PM PST I need to add a Cloud VM to the local LAN, so that to the other computers on the LAN, the cloud VM looks exactly like a local computer plugged into the LAN. Requirements:
Any ideas on how to do this? Background info for people curious about why I need this: I am trying to run a three-computer music playback system. MAC computer physically on my local LAN running "Roon" home audio music organization/playback software -> audio stream sent to Cloud VM running HQPlayer audio upsampling software -> Linux single-board-computer physically on my local LAN running "Network Audio Adapter" client that receives an audio stream from HQplayer. HQPlayer is very computationally intensive, so my options are to buy a very expensive computer -- think high end gaming computer -- to run it locally, or to run it on a powerful VM in the cloud. "HQPlayer" and "Network Audio Adapter" use a proprietary network protocol to discover each other over the LAN, different ports every time you run them, and a proprietary multicast protocol to communicate the data with each other over the LAN. So they need to be on the same LAN, or think that they are. Thank you! [link] [comments]
Edgemax router ERPoe-5 port for Plex is open but ports for XSX show as closed from port checker. Posted: 07 Mar 2022 01:57 PM PST Very strange as to why the port for Plex is open but all of the other ones are closed. I have them all forwarded the same way as Plex but when I check each individual XSX/ Call of Duty port it states those are closed. Any help is appreciated. TIA [link] [comments]

Posted: 07 Mar 2022 01:53 PM PST Hello Everyone, I am a network engineer who can not get him home internet to work. I hope someone here may have some insight. I am using Comcast Xfinity I moved recently. I transferred service to the new address. I was unable to get my router to pull an IP from comcast. I pulled in my laptop and it gets a public IP from comcast via DHCP. The packet captures look completely normal. However when I plug anything else in (I have tried a second laptop, xbox, two wireless routers) nothing else pulls an IP. On the second laptop I can see the DHCP and arp request going out but nothing comes back. I am using an Arris Surfboard SB6183. I have tried doing a modem reset and a factory reset on the modem. Comcast support has no idea and is scheduling a tech playing a layer 1 issue, but I know it can't be that. Any recommendations? Edit: thanks everyone. The problem was/is Sticky Macs. I cloned the mac of the working Pc to the second Pc and it worked. So I cloned it over to the router and all service is restored. The strange thing is my laptop was the third thing I plugged in, yet it was what Comcast decided to latch onto it. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Mar 2022 10:01 AM PST Hello everyone, I'm in need of support as I can't figure out who is handing out IPv6 in my network. As I stated here, I upgraded my RPi (2 to 3) running DietPi, just by swapping the SD. It all went well except for this thing: presumably all devices in my network who support IPv6 are assigned one by someone. For sure my desktop and smartphone are. As a consequence, they don't use PiHole anymore. PiHole is supposedly working, IPv6 is disabled on that. My Vodafone Station is supposedly not handing out IPv6, as I don't think you can actually enable it, and also DHCP on that is giving out just one IPv4 (PiHole's), since you cannot disable it completely. Also I factory reset the Station, so it's probably not that. Supposedly, PiHole (192.168.1.100) is the DHCP server, but it is not the only DNS server: On Android, it's all the same except: The IPv6 address belongs to the Vodafone Station. But on Windows (and on Android) IPv6 is used preferentially, so the result is this: What can I check? Is there something I can do? Thanks in advance. [link] [comments]
Using Actiontec F2250 as wireless bridge to Starlink? Posted: 07 Mar 2022 10:11 AM PST I went from Frontier to Starlink recently, with the new flat dish. I have a couple of devices that need to be connected to the network via ethernet, and the flat dish has no port. Has anyone set up an F2250 as a wireless bridge? I think that would be the only option without buying the Starlink ethernet adapter. I can get the F2250 to transparent bridge mode no problem; talking to the Starlink router wirelessly is where I'm confounded. Actiontec apparently didn't make a manual for the F2250, and I haven't found anything online yet to guide me. [link] [comments]
I think my router has been spoofed Posted: 07 Mar 2022 10:06 AM PST There is this signal that has the same mac Address and ip, as mine as far. I know we only have one router here and it is a home router from the isp, everytime I analyse my WiFi theres this other signal that is possibly stealing our data and stealing the Internet speed, when we first signed up for fibr the speed was great there wasn't any problems, the data speed that the router was giving was always at 300-400 mpbs, and never bugged on me, but until then the data has been halved and now I'm getting 150 mpbs to 50 below, the Internet keeps fluctuating and dropping, very unstable alot now, even when I play games my ping gets to 300 even to 10,000 where as it used to be 40-60, I don't know where I can find help to get rid. Of this culprit, called the isp lots of times they don't know anything wrong with it, I really need someone who knows how to stop this or at least get rid of it, [link] [comments]
Port forwarding works sometimes Posted: 07 Mar 2022 03:54 PM PST My camera system is port forwarded but sometimes doesn't work. My internet drops from my TP-link network but my fiber connection from the ISP router is stable Posted: 07 Mar 2022 03:34 PM PST Helo everyone, I have a case that's driving me crazy. I have a house (700sqm2 ) where I have made a Wifi network with 5 access points and the internet is coming from a router from ISP (Via Fiber) The problem is that at some point during the day The internet connection drops for a few minutes and them comes back on everything that's connected to the LAN ports of the router (while the Lan ports the are down I can have internet by being connected on the wifi of the router, thats how I proved that the Internet is stable) at first I thought this has to be a fault on the router so I asked the ISP for a new one (same model as the first) but then again the internet keeps dropping. So I asked them for a different model of router to see if that might be solution. but it wasn't. So next I have changed the switch for a gigaswitch but no success. I have called TP-Link many times and they say that is nothing wrong on the internet set up that the problem is the ISP. and when I call the ISP they say that they cant see anything wrong in the internet connection. The topology is ISP Router > gigaswitch / TP-Link cloud controller > Access points. I may have to say that there's at least 15 Sonos connected on the sistem + 3 Philips hue bridges + some TV and a CCTV. I really hope someone can help me out with this one. [link] [comments]
Internet upload speed super low and only gets better after midnight Posted: 07 Mar 2022 09:36 AM PST Like I said in the title the upload is less than 0.5 mb and the download speed is over 12mb and ping 6 I called my internet provider and they sent someone to fix it my antenna and wires are all working fine I even changed the Ethernet cable and there was no improvement changed the router and still the same problem can someone help? Posted: 07 Mar 2022 02:58 AM PST So I want everything to be organized and with minimal showing cords once I go through with putting the router and modem in a small recessed shelf that has a few panels that direct to the rooms I plan on having a dedicated line in. For now, I just need to do one room. It's mine. I have 100ft of cat8. I know it's overkill. The thing is everything I've seen involves punching down wires into a keystone that then slips into an ethernet outlet panel that then has a standard ethernet cable to the router. Is there any way I can leverage the cat8? Would I need to cut it? Please tell me no I don't. [link] [comments]
Posted: 07 Mar 2022 03:22 PM PST I recently bought the DECA GigE adapter (link and I set it up and I only get speeds of about 110 mbps. My wireless goes up to 300 mbps and ethernet goes higher so idk why the speed is only at around 100 mbps wven the adapter can handle more and my router goes faster. Is there a way I can speed it up or am I missing something? [link] [comments]
Been out of IT for awhile now. Looking for advice on my home network. Posted: 07 Mar 2022 09:00 AM PST Hello All, I left IT 10 years and have not been in tune with networking other than basic router security. I'm looking to better secure my home and traffic. I've been lookin at VPN services but I'm really not interested in paying a vpn provider. I'm looking to build my own VPN server and mix it with a PI-Hole and maybe build a server for PFSense. Any advice here? do I need a vpn/firewall+pi hole or would I be ok just using the pi-hole/vpn ? [link] [comments]
Mesh Solution for Multi-Level Home Posted: 07 Mar 2022 02:55 PM PST Hi folks, looking for a replacement for my Netgear R7000 that has been dropping connection intermittently. Internet: AT&T Fiber 1Gbps Home: Two level, living room with kitchen next to two-car garage, bedrooms/bathrooms above garage, so a somewhat long and skinny layout. The most distant bedrooms are a good 50-75 feet from the living room with several walls in-between. Both of these rooms require excellent Wi-Fi for Zoom calls. Use: 4k streaming, potentially 4 people having Zoom meetings simultaneously upstairs and downstairs. Front door has a Ring camera/doorbell. I'd also like to AirLink my Quest 2 VR headset to my gaming PC (bedroom upstairs). If I can have a single router that can do AirLink and serve the whole house that would be ideal, but not sure if it would have the range necessary. I know mesh isn't ideal for wireless VR but I can always use a dedicated router for this as backup. I've already got ethernet running from where the Fiber enters the house (downstairs living room) to upstairs so I can do wired backhaul. However, I may be moving to another multistory house in the near future where wired backhaul may not be possible. Budget: $400 Candidates: Mesh: Asus XT8 - Good reviews, concerned about firmware issues I've read about Asus AX6100 Eero Pro 6 - Seems easy to set up, but don't love that it requires a login Asus XD6 - Seems like an updated XT8 but without USB Single Box: Asus AX88U Asus AX86U Asus AX68U Asus AX82U These all seem like broadly similar routers depending on if they are 2x2, 3x3, or 4x4. I'm open to buying one of these then adding another in an AiMesh setup if one doesn't have enough coverage. TP-Link AX50 I'm open to other brands but I'm a bit wary of Netgear as their past two products I had were underwhelming. Liking Asus for the customization features and AiMesh support. Wifi extender vs USB wifi adapter vs Router in bridging mode for better gaming experience Posted: 07 Mar 2022 02:47 PM PST TDLR : which is the best option to get a stable wifi connection from a router under me in the first floor? Please help me choose between the options that I mentioned on the title (WiFi extender vs USB WiFi adapter vs bridging) to connect my desktop in the second floor with a fiber router(5Ghz band) on the first floor. I'm using now a WiFi extender that gets a strong signal from the original router but unfortunately I got some rare ping spikes and disconnection time to time when playing online games. So I'm wondering what is the best option of me. N.B: Using ethernet or Powerline Ethernet aren't an option for me. [link] [comments] |
