This thread is for simple questions that don't warrant their own thread (although we strongly suggest checking the sidebar and the wiki before posting!). Please don't post involved questions that are better suited to a [Build Help], [Build Ready] or [Build Complete] post. Examples of questions suitable for here:

    • Is this RAM compatible with my motherboard?
    • I'm thinking of getting a ≤$300 graphics card. Which one should I get?
    • I'm on a very tight budget and I'm looking for a case ≤$50

Remember that Discord is great places to ask quick questions as well: http://www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/wiki/livechat

Undervolting saved the day - and my sanity - after getting a 3080 FE.

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 09:41 AM PST

I was able to miraculously snag a 3080 FE during a Best Buy drop and waited with intense anticipation as my pickup date drew nearer. I bought a new case and new fans to get better airflow and do my first big update to my build in a while.

I got the entire case put together, and the day finally came. I popped in the new card, and HOLY COIL WHINE. I knew it could happen, but it was so much louder than my 3060ti. I was freaking out a bit. I really didn't want to return the card after all the struggles.

I scoured this sub and others for a solution. I've never really messed with MSI Afterburner, but I needed to do something.

After a lot of tinkering, I undervolted my new card to 1875 MHz at 850 mV. My temps dropped 3.5 degrees C, my score on Heaven Benchmark went up ever so slightly, I'm drawing around 240 W compared to 300 at stock, and the noise was cut down by more than half.

Thank you to all that helped me learn. Everyone else - do yourself a favor... Educate yourself on undervolting. It was a fun learning experience and I'm super happy with the results.

Edit: New power draw is 240 W. Typo first time!

I have a pc with above above average specs and still getting low fps. Please help

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 11:08 PM PST

    Here's my build: Intel 11900kf z590 asroc mb 32gb (4x8gb) 3200mhz Msi GeForce 3090 800w gold psu 1tb ssd 2TB hdd

I've done all the YouTube fps settings even uninstalled and reinstalled drivers on my gpu and somehow I'm still only getting 160fps on Warzone. With my setup I'm told that I should be getting 220fps plus. I've put all my settings on low and optimized everything based on YouTube videos but still nothing better than 160fps, sometimes 170fps. Before I spend $350 for someone to optimize my pc, can anyone please help me. I spent all this time and effort on this pc and I'm pretty damn discouraged at this point

When top mounting aio radiator, does it matter which way the tubes face?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 11:03 PM PST

I've seen many builds with the aio tubes going towards the ram, however does it matter if you have the tubes facing the other way?

Edit: this is how I currently have it https://imgur.com/a/WnYGYS3

I need help deciding on a new PC

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 09:58 PM PST

My current PC was given to me by my cousin about a year ago, but I've noticed that it's been slowing down a lot and my hard drive got messed up recently so I think it's time for an upgrade. I'm looking for a PC that's able to handle video editing (Premiere Pro) and maybe streaming but I'm mostly gonna be playing games and editing on it. The problem is that my budget is kinda low, I want something around $1,300. I've settled on two options but I don't know much about PCs so any help would be much appreciated!

    Option 1:

    Processor : Intel Core i7-10700F 2.90 GHz

    Ram: 16GB DDR4 3000MHz

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 12GB

Power Supply: 600W 80 Plus Gold

    512 GB SSD

    Motherboard: Intel B560 PRICE: $1,359

    Option 2:

    Processor : Intel Core i5-11400F

    Ram: 16GB DDR4 3000MHz

    GPU: GeForce RTX 3060 12GB

Power Supply: 600W 80 Plus Gold

    512GB M.2 NVMe SSD

    Motherboard: Intel B560 PRICE: $1,249

1440p compatibility with an RX 6600 XT and a 12600k

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 01:59 AM PST

I've recently purchased a 1440p monitor for my upcoming build but am coming to realise that the components (RX 6600 XT and 12600k) may not be able to power it due to the 6600 being marketed as a high end 1080p card. Will it work? If not surely I can just display 1080p games on the 1440p monitor.. right?

First PC build so don't judge my ineptitude.

Currently have 3 outtake fans, thinking to add an additional 2 intake fans to mainly cool GPU. Is this necessary and if so, what would be the best placement for these 2 additional fans? Thank you [Pictures included]

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 01:44 AM PST

    Hello r/buildapc,

Just seeking some advice on whether or not its even beneficial to purchase an additional 2 fans to mainly cool my GPU as the only 3 fans I have in my case are all outtake fans

Here's a picture of my current build with direction of current fans: https://imgur.com/a/pG3hRpa

Based on my current build, would it be beneficial to purchase an additional 2 fans to cool of mainly my GPU as well as having some cold air running through my case?

My CPU temperature always averages around ~40-45C and GPU is always around ~60C when pc is essentially idle (obviously will slightly fluctuate/increase for pc intensive tasks)

If the answer to my question above is yes, should I add 2 additional fans at the base of my pc or attach it to the side of the pc (pretty much on my radiator)?

    Option one: https://imgur.com/a/lrSRVqK

    Option two: https://imgur.com/a/5qzd0Ij

Any help/advice is greatly appreciated. I just feel like my GPU is always super hot and deserves some cooling but let me know if my opinion is even necessary or if everything is just fine the way it is

    Thanks in advance!!!

Old PSU dying. How is the Corsair CX550M (2021)? I haven't found any reviews for it whatsoever.

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 01:35 AM PST

    Hello!

I am asking about the 2021 model of CX550M. I live somewhere in Europe, and for the components in my PC I'm not willing to dish out a lot of money for a new PSU.

I was considering the CX550M 2021 model, as I have found it at a decent price well within my budget, but I did not manage to find any reviews for it, and it costs roughly the same as a CV650. Reading a few reddit posts, people pointed out that the CX series is better than the CV one.

Despite this, I have found it mentioned in a PSU tier list: https://cultists.network/140/psu-tier-list/, where it is ranked in the C-tier, below the 2017 model of the same PSU, and below CV650, both of which are marked on the website as the best units in their respective category.

Does anybody know more about this power supply? Thank you!

Query/ Help regarding Deepcool FH-10 fan hub

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 10:53 PM PST

I have been using Deepcool FH-10 fan hub for long time now , but recently i connected a 1800rpm fan at the right side's first slot for detection and i want those fans to run at maxed speeds so i adjusted the speed to around 1700rpm but the other 2 fan attached to the same fan hub at different slots are 1400rpm fans now they are also running at full speeds i think but i'm unable to check rpm as it's showing up , so will this speed adjustment of 1700rpm for 1400rpm (max) fans cause any issues ?

    Need cpu upgrade advice

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 12:13 AM PST

Im currently running intel core i5-9400f 2.90ghz Which was great when i first bought my PC but i have started playing a lot of VR games and working with unity aswell as blender and i can see it struggling a lot

Lightbaking takes an hour And runing multiple applications to improve my vr experience make it suffer too Same with high cpu usage games like Fortnite

Since im currently working on getting full body tracking and gonna work more in blender i need a better cpu. Or fix this one. Does anyone know how to do that?

Idk if it matter but im running a RX-580 Series GPU (Maybe the issue us there?)

Top mounted or front mounted AIO... What's your opinion folks to help those wondering!

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 11:48 PM PST

Also, double the fans up so the aio radiator is sandwiched by the front case fans or not...

    Needing a webcam and mic

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 08:57 PM PST

I know nothing about webcams and mics for PCs. I'm getting a computer for an older friend and they need a webcam and microphone for mostly zoom meetings. They aren't doing anything crazy with it so something just basic. Preferably something that could clip on the top of their monitor. Could someone suggest a decent lower priced one please? I'm in the USA.

    Beginner PC build

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 10:32 PM PST

Hi all, I've got a question for you. I'm all ears to anything you have to say. I am trying to put together a pc build for my wife and I (2 separate computers), and for simplicity's sake, the builds would be identical. The use the computers are going to see is general purpose (everyday things), with an emphasis on gaming. I've only really decided on using the Ryzen 5 5600X and the B-550 motherboard (not sure about with or without wifi for the motherboard yet). The rest of the parts are still a toss-up. I'm early on in my career, and have a couple other big purchases on the horizon.

My big question is, what are the parts you think I should use? I'm undecided on the GPU (most costly item, I know), I do want to use both SSD and HDD, I was thinking of doing a water-cooling system (but don't know if I should only water cpu), and I have no idea about RAM.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks!

    RTX 3090 AiO worth it?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 02:02 AM PST

Currently running the Palit Gamerock OC 3090 anf 8t is extemely loud as well as hot. Thinking of using the Alphacool Eisewolf 2 to combat both those issues.

Any experienced whether this is worth it? My 5900X CPU has an AiO already and according to 3D mark I am well in the overclocked territory without issues.

B660 - MSI Tomahawk or ROG Strix?

    Posted: 24 Feb 2022 01:54 AM PST

Is one of these a better option than the other? They seem a similar spec and are exactly the same price.

Planning to pair with a B660, only other thing that I can think might influence the decision is that I already have an Asus argb 240mm AIO and gpu so I guess the Asus board would make syncing up the rib easier?

First time builder so apologies if the questions are a little stupid!

    NF-A14 vs Silent wings 3?

    Posted: 23 Feb 2022 10:07 PM PST

I have an NZXT h440 case, want 3 140mm fans, two intake and 1 rear outtake.

I casually game but not much, so its mostly just random browsing/office work.

I care about noise more than anything else. And since I don't game much, I'm guessing i'll be setting a low curve to have it run at a low rpm(?)

Looking to update/rebuild my old 2015 PC. Built the standard 4690k/970 and it's really showing it's age more and more lately. Going to hold off on the GPU until prices are more reasonable, but looking to update the CPU/MOBO/RAM. Going to keep my case and PSU assuming it's still does the job.

Currently just 1080/60fps gaming, but potentially looking at 1440 in the future. Looking for something between the budget/mid range. Been reading good things on the 12400/12600k CPUs, leaning more towards the 12400. Not sure how different the performance is between them and if it would be worth it in the long run to go for the 12600k. Would appreciate MOBO recommendations. Looking to upgrade the GPU to potentially 3060ti when/if the price is more reasonable. Buying in US, no Microcenter nearby. :(

Any recommendations or feedback is appreciated.
