    App to block spam calls

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 06:53 AM PST

Is there an app to block certain calls identified by a keyword in truecaller ID?

    For example: insurance

I can add "insurance" keyword to the app. If a number is identified with keyword "insurance" from Truecaller (not from my phonecontacts). App will automatically block calls.

Free app for blueprinting? A decent, simple CAD editor would be fine, but I'm not 3D printing anything so as long as it can depict accurate scale I'm good.

Type "Blueprint" into Google play, and receive a deluge of architecture programs. I usually do this on desktop with draw.io, as it is pixel perfect, but it glitches to hell on mobile :/

It doesn't have to be Mobile/Desktop cross-compatible, but that would be awesome even though if have to switch off draw.io.

Does anyone know of a calendar app where you can filter out events based on keywords, e.g. "hide events with 'Daily standup' in the title"?

Apps for temporary or not backed up photos

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 10:36 AM PST

Sometimes I want a photo only on my phone, or only for a short time. An example would be when I take a photo of an item I need to buy at the store and want to make sure I get the right thing.

I have a Samsung S10 and currently almost exclusively use the default camera app for all photos. My photos automatically backup to Google.

I don't need a photo of my mother's shampoo bottle for ever more, so is there an app to take photos that won't be backed up?

    Thanks

Are the Gapps Nano additional apps actually useful?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 05:38 AM PST

The difference between Pico and Nano Gapps is Pico is the bare minimum for functionality, and Nano is bare minimum + a few apps not otherwise available on the play store. But why would anyone want:

    • BatteryUsage
    • GearheadStub
    • Markup
    • Wellbeing

ASOP/LineageOS already has battery stats built in, the Gearhead has already been replaced by Android Auto on the Playstore , Markup requires interaction to display results on your phone differently and Wellbeing is just a privacy nightmare.

Anyone actually use these? Are they useful?

Best Photo Editing App with Somewhat Advanced features?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2022 01:27 AM PST

Basically the title. Ever since the S2 plus came out, I've been using picsart to edit my photos. They've always been shady with their fake social media thing, their constant spam of ads, more and more cancerous bloated software, just desperate to keep repackaging. Every update is worse. But they're the only app with features like cropping and layering photos as well as editing of each added photo and text individually. Most "editing" apps on android are filter or brightness apps. On desktop I use GIMP because it's opensource and easy. But i much prefer editing off phone. Any similar apps? Thank you

Is there a Reddit app in which you can define which account to use depending on the subreddit?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 03:34 PM PST

There are some subs I want to post/comment in which I don't want any link to my main account. I've been logging into those accounts when posting there but I was wondering if there are any of the reddit browsing apps which let you define "when posting on r/blahblahblah, use /u/throwaway1234, otherwise use /u/mainaccount". I currently use RIF

something happened to my gmail apps about a week ago i can't figure it out.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 11:32 PM PST

so last week at some moment, my gmail went awry, won't refresh, and i don't know what's going on. that's not all though, it's weird the way it happened.

i use the android email app as my default email app, with my gmail account synced to it. i was already set to auto-sync, but i turned it of and on a few times since, and it is currently on. i have the Gmail app from Google in a folder with my google apps, and rarely open it, but it was up-to-date, synced, etc. before it shit the bed. i'm not sure when it happened, but one day, my Email stopped refreshing. i did a few troubleshoots, nothing. a couple days later i discover the same thing happened with my Gmail app. however, my Gmail app will only load emails from Uber, Uber Eats, and Snapchat, specifically. nothing else. over on the Email app, any emails from those 3 email addresses do not load onto the list.

i have a galaxy s10+, upgraded phone to most recent version.

    Selfie Security

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 08:31 PM PST

    Hi all!

Any intruder app I've found takes selfies only if the code/pattern, etc is wrong after a number of times.

Does anyone know of an app that takes selfies no matter who opens it, including myself? The reason being, I'd like a pic of anyone opening my phone (even myself). Everytime anyone opens the phone, it takes a selfie.

I havent found an app that does this. So far, all I can find are apps that takes selfies if someone who doesn't know the code and tries a number of times to beak in. I haven't found one that takes selfies everytime the phone is being broken into, as well as everytime anyone with the code opens the phone.

I hope I've conveyed correctly what I need in an app. I know you know so much about so many apps, I figured if anyone knows, it's the brains in this sub. I'd be really thankful. I have my reasons to use such an app; let's me just say it's for security purposes, as is with most intruder apps.

    Most appreciated! Be safe.

[DEV] Avast gives false-positives (indiedev rant)

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 05:21 AM PST

It seems that the last few weeks Avast is giving false positives, indicating as malware apps that are safe.

The first reports came from Huawei owners, but now they are also coming from Samsung owners.

On Huawei devices it seems that Avast is a system app. For Samsung devices, it's not clear to me if Avast is a system app or if it was installed by the user.

I contacted Avast personally via Twitter but to no avail, except a reply to send them a DM to give them details. Details of what? Of how to fix their app to not give false positives?
Also, this isn't even the first time this issue has happened with Avast, at this point they should have known what they were doing wrong.

If you receive these kinds of reports from Avast, after contacting the app developer also contact Avast to ask them if it is a false positive and if so, fix their app.

[DEV] Shopping list & to do app with live sync and reminders

    Posted: 21 Feb 2022 09:17 AM PST

Hey everyone! I'd like to introduce you my current Android project - a simple, but useful Shopping list/ToDo app.

Besides other features, I recently implemented live synchronization between accounts using a Firebase realtime database. That means any change made to a list will instantly appear on both devices.

Another great feature is reminder setting. You are able to schedule notifications in the future and even an option to repeat them daily/weekly/monthly.

And that's not all! You can customize lists, mark items as bought/done, alphabetically sort list content and share everything on WhatsApp, Email etc.

The app is free and published on Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.decosoft.shoppinglist

Let me know what you think 🙂
