Issues with Bluetooth on EndeavourOS Atlantis

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 08:17 AM PST

    Hi guys,

I just recently installed the new EndeavourOS ISO on my PC with KDE. This was a clean install replacing my Manjaro OS (also KDE).

I have a small USB Bluetooth adapter/dongle which worked flawlessly on Manjaro on the same PC, however I cannot seem to find any bluetooth widget within KDE this time. If I go to the bottom panel and 'add widget' and search 'blue', 'bluetooth' or 'bluedevil' nothing is found. It is also not found if I search the same terms in the 'Get New Widgets' tool and System Settings. It's like Bluetooth does not exist.

It's worth noting that my previous Manjaro install was running 5.10 (LTS) of the kernel whereas I'm now running 5.15 on EOS.

I ran a few commands I found in the Arch wiki which suggest to me that the Bluetooth service on the backend is running correctly:

    ❯ lsmod | grep bt
    btusb 65536 0
    btrtl 28672 1 btusb
    btbcm 24576 1 btusb
    btintel 45056 1 btusb
    bluetooth 749568 35 btrtl,btintel,btbcm,bnep,btusb,rfcomm

    ❯ sudo systemctl status bluetooth.service
    ● bluetooth.service - Bluetooth service
Loaded: loaded (/usr/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service; enabled; vendor preset: disabled)
Active: active (running) since Sat 2021-12-04 15:51:42 GMT; 19min ago
    Docs: man:bluetoothd(8)
    Main PID: 2960 (bluetoothd)
    Status: "Running"
    Tasks: 1 (limit: 9405)
    Memory: 900.0K
    CPU: 15ms
    CGroup: /system.slice/bluetooth.service
    └─2960 /usr/lib/bluetooth/bluetoothd

I'm really struggling to figure out if the issue is with KDE, Arch or the Kernel. Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks

    Wifi card doesn't work?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 09:18 AM PST

I have an old ASUS A4000 that I am going to give away to charity. It's very slow when using windows so I decided to install Linux on it so I decided on Slacko Puppy. The thing is it can connect to internet with Lan cable but I just can't connect with Wifi card. The Wifi card works on Windows.

Do I need to install some drivers???

Clonezilla, will it wipe my machine?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 11:09 AM PST

I would like a create a exact copy of my Fedora 35 KDE install. I was looking up how to do this but I read something that it will delete the source (don't want that) does Clonezilla actually wipe the source (my Fedora install)

Currently TimeShift is broken on Fedora 35 or else I would use that.

Did I mess up? Ubuntu Server

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:51 PM PST

I found a server that was going to be recycled at work and took it home with me. It had everything still in it including 2 500gb hard drives.

I wiped both drives using diskpart and cleanall then I put the ubuntuserver ISO on one drive and put both back into the server. Booted it up and then had it install from one drive to the other. After it installed it was doing the post install updates and it restarted and now I am not getting any video output from the server.

    Is it me?

    Headphones don't work in Linux

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 10:00 AM PST

Hello, I have recently installed Ubuntu on my laptop, but my headphones don't work anymore. I keep them plugged into the headphone port, and they worked just fine in Windows. Ubuntu says that my audio controllers are Intel Corporation 100 Series/C230 Series Chipset Family HD Audio Controller and NVIDIA Corporation GM204 High Definition Audio Controller

How do I get my headphones to work?

    Help setting up Ubuntu

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:35 PM PST

    Hey guys,

I set up Ubuntu, but I seem to having some issues getting started...

    1. Is there a way to skip the GNU GRUB Screen when booting into Linux?
    2. My TouchPad for some reason does not work when I use Ubuntu. I tried multiple fixes or workaround that I found on YT, but no success.
    3. My wifi is not working for some reason.. I do not have a USB wifi card but instead I am trying to use the WIFI card that is built into the laptop.

    Information about my laptop....

    ASUS TUF GAMING F15

    Thanks in advance guys!

PulseEffects EQ has to be turned on & off manually to work despite "start service at login" and "load preset whenever this device is plugged in" are toggled on.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 09:46 AM PST

Title. Anyone have an idea what could be causing this? It's pretty annoying to open up PulseEffects everytime you want to listen to music and want a bass boost. I'm using AirPods Pros on Kubuntu 21.10. I have a 2020 XPS 15 7590.

    New to Linux

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:23 PM PST

So I m new to linux and have been looking at the different linux distros. The Ones I have been looking at are Mint, Manjero and zorin os.

Now what what do I need it for?

1.Be able to install unity and run unity3d stuff or any other game engine.

2.Play steam os, though not hardcore gamer

3.Video editing is very important one the ones I had been using is cyberlink powerdirector (for ease of use) (trying hitflim express steep learning curve) any altertives on linux would be help and support 3D and 360 degree or VR video as well

4.Support VR if possible and be able to play altspace and Vrchat and other VR games.

5.Ease of use I want the os be able to easy to use and find things

6.I have been using viladi browser as of late and enjoying that one.

7.wine support for a another game.

I m currently on windows 10 as of right now out of the those 3 distros which would be the best for my purposes since it will be more workstation and gaming second from windows?

Need help installing Linux on a VM (VirtualBox)?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 01:17 PM PST

I have a laptop with 16 gigs of RAM running Windows 10. I want to use Linux, probably Xubuntu in a VM.

Most tutorials on YouTube are at least one year old. I needed help on how much RAM I should allocate to the VM(I was thinking 6 gigs), which file system to choose and the other multiple options that I have to choose through. Thanks.

Mangohud causing Steam to crash in the background

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 02:03 AM PST

This is the last thing stopping me from leaving windows completely, so I'd really appreciate any help I can get.

I launch my game through steam with mangohud %command% and everything works great for around 15-30 minutes, until eventually steam silently crashes in the background and the game freezes shortly after.

Currently on endeavor os, though I had the same problem on manjaro just a few days ago and also on whatever I used several months back.

I can't tell if this is user error or not. Mangohud is clearly a popular tool that many seem to recommend and use without issues, but I've tried it on multiple distros now and it's always the same problem. I've managed to find a few posts across the internet describing a similar issue, but I had to dig pretty deep to find them and none ever found a solution other than "dont use mangohud". There's so few reports of this that I expect we all managed to mess it up somehow rather than it actually being a problem with mangohud, but I cant think of anything I possibly could have done.

I've asked about in a few other places before, and the only help I've ever gotten was someone having me run steam through steam &> $HOME/steam-output.txt to see if it logged anything when it crashed.

I've tried my best to troubleshoot and diagnose it myself, but I have failed to really find anything. The most noteworthy thing I did was just trying older versions, compiling 0.6.4 and 0.5.1 from source to be exact. Neither of those made any difference.

    steam-output.txt (possibly outdated):

    hardware info:

Let me know if I need to add anything else, I'm still new to this. Please send help, I'd love to finally complete the switch :)

How safe is it to use kde-connect or gs connect on a Public WiFi?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 12:02 PM PST

    Hi everybody!

I had a this doubt because we have to open 1714:1764 tcp/udp ports in firewall for kde connect to work. Right now, I have these ports on my 'home' profile on firewall, that means that these ports open only if the network is marked by me as 'Home' and which otherwise is marked as 'Public' by default.

Secondly, I am not able to change these profile on Gnome 41 as in the earlier versions of gnome this was available under network>security> profile. But now this option of profile is no ore there. It would be great help if someone could tell me how to go about with it. GUI will be preferable as I am not a very CLI user (although I don't mind).

Thank you all in advance for taking time to read through and help.

ELI5 on how to install and compile GLFW 3.3.5 on Linux Mint 20.2?

    Posted: 04 Dec 2021 06:56 AM PST

Hi! I need to install and compile GLFW 3.3.5 as version 3.3.4 fixes a bug that affects MacOS and Linux in which Xbox One and Series and controllers don't work. I play modded Minecraft, and there is a controller mod called Controllable that uses GLFW mappings, so this version should fix an issue that I've been having thanks to Linux Mint having an older version of GLFW 3. Before anybody tells me to install it through sudo apt-get install glfw3, the binary packages aren't the desired version, even on the unstable package.
