Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:42 AM PST I was playing Battlefield when my computer sparked and basically stop functioning. Upon further investigation I found that my GPU was extremely hot and removed it from my system. My computer would now boot and work as normal just without the GPU. I took apart the GPU to take a look and discoved that the circut board had severe burn marks along a track. See the attached photos. I was wondering what would cause this because I am worried that it may happen again. [link] [comments]
Why do people still keep recommending the Cooler Master Hyper 212 cooler? Posted: 25 Nov 2021 11:20 PM PST This cooler is still being recommended all the time yet at $45, it is not a good choice when there are similar performing coolers like the Vetroo V5 for $20 less. It's an outdated cooler that was once considered budget friendly because it was only $20 then. I've also heard countless stories about the 212 being a nightmare to mount. These days you can also grab a similarly priced Arctic Freezer 34 esports duo that blows the 212 out of competition. Hyper 212 not a bad cooler but there is no reason buy it at this price. NVME vs SATA SSD for gaming: A helpful guide I found Posted: 26 Nov 2021 10:35 AM PST Hello all! I've recently been looking for a new internal SSD and have been a bit confused as to how a SATA SSD could possibly be basically as good as an M.2 NVMe for gaming. "The NVMe is *so much* faster, how are so many people swearing it doesn't matter? I hear a lot of theory, but no hard numbers..." Luckily, I just ran across this site that did some real-world tests between the two that really helped me visualize and feel good about getting the SATA SSD (for so much cheaper). I hope this helps another builder like me wrap their head around this issue! [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Nov 2021 11:37 AM PST I just bought my 3060 TI for 600$ from gigabyte and everyone I know keeps telling me I should've went for ASUS or EVGA and that I'm going to regret it if I don't. Is gigabyte truly that bad? Should I return it?! [link] [comments]
From I7 - 7700k to Ryzen 7 5800X Posted: 26 Nov 2021 05:01 PM PST The tittle says it all! I have a I7 - 7700k with a 3060TI, I would like to upgrade to a 5800X. It was on a good sale at my local computer store for Black Friday. I bought it but wondering if its really a update thats worth it. I looked on CPU Benchmarks and it look somewhat better, with more cores/threads. Is it a good upgrade thats worth it? [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:49 PM PST My pc is from 2013 with a 1070 from 2016. It brought me lots of joy in the past but the last couple years I slowly stopped using it. Recently I got tired of looking at a 13" laptop for work all the time so I wanted to get back to using a proper desktop pc. I just wanted to keep the gpu as I thought the rest of the system was way past its prime anyway. Having never built a pc myself I figured it would be a good idea to practice a bit on my old system. So I took absolutely everything apart, I cleaned it all and put it all back together. Having a nice cable management and a new fan setup, my "old" rig suddenly didn't look so old at all, so I thought why stop there? The only thing that always bothered me with my pc was its annoying noise. Now as a pc building expert I was quickly able to identify the AIO pump as the noise source. Today my new cpu fan arrived and what can I tell you? This pc that seemed so old to me just a few days ago is actually still fast enough for most games and runs so quietly that I would never consider upgrading now. I have to thank this community for helping me with all my questions. [link] [comments]
Upgraded RAM to 3600 MHZ, but it says I only have 2666 MHZ Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:45 PM PST I had a 2 x 8 Dimms that were 3600 MHZ and I decided to upgrade to 32 GB for my video editing. I bought these 2 x 16 GB Dimms and I did not realize that they were 2666 MHZ, so I found a 2 x16 GB 3600 MHZ Dimms that were 7 bucks less, plan on returning the old ones. I just installed the new RAM and both BIOS and task manger say that my RAM speed it 2666 MHZ. I dont understand, I have a Ryzen 5 3600 which I know can support well over 3600 MHZ, and I have a MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX which I looked up and it says it can do as much as 3466+ MHZ, so why is my speed the same. Is it a driver thing (maybe Windows did not install the new RAM drivers), but it shoulnt be a problem since its plug and play. What is going on? Got a free GPU, not sure about mboard etc Posted: 26 Nov 2021 12:20 PM PST Dear r/BuildaPC a friend gave me a Radeon RX 570 Series 4gb, that he couldn't return, that is working fine. I don't demand a lot from a PC, 2 monitors should run on them, some work-related software like Citrix and a few older games is what I need it for. Any help or directions are greatly appreciated! Posted: 26 Nov 2021 01:37 PM PST I just won a Newegg shuffle and can get an Asus RTX 3060 for $440, do you guys think it's worth it? My heart was set on a 3070, but I don't see the likelihood of getting one at MSRP anytime soon, so I wanted to know what you guys think. I had posted on a different subreddit earlier about possibly flipping it, but I realized that I'd just be contributing to the scalper problem that I hate lol, so I'm either gonna buy it or pass on it. I currently don't have a GPU at all if that helps. [link] [comments]
Partitionning a 1TB SSD for Windows OS Posted: 26 Nov 2021 12:32 PM PST Hello all, I'm helping my dad upgrade his PC and we were debating on storage: 1x250gb SSD for Win11 OS 1x2TB SSD for all other files or 2x1TB SSD with one that has a partition for the OS. Is partitioning a bigger SSD for the OS a viable solution? Are there pros and cons? Thanks :) [link] [comments]
Posted: 26 Nov 2021 06:54 AM PST Is 650w 80+ gold psu enough for ryzen 5 5600x, rtx 3060, 2 ssd's, 32 gb drr4 ram. I dont plan to do any overclocking [link] [comments]
Could my processor bottleneck my gpu? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 07:21 AM PST So recently I upgraded my gpu from 1060 to 3060ti , and I am using a i5 9400f with it , could there be any chance of bottlenecking? [link] [comments]
5800X Cooler - Vetroo V5, Scythe Fuma 2, or Scythe Mugen 5? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:47 PM PST I'm picking up a 5800X because the $315 deal on Ebay was too good to pass up. My build is strictly focused on gaming, I won't be doing any rendering or video production. Not planning on doing any overclocking. Price-to-Performance is the main metric I'm looking to maximize, I'm looking for a cooler that will do well but won't break the bank. I've currently got it narrowed down to the Vetroo V5 ($30), the Scythe FUMA 2 ($60), or the Scythe Mugen 5 Rev B ($50). I've seen the two Scythe coolers frequently recommended for the 5800X, but I've also been seeing loads of sources singing the praises of the V5. What do people think of the V5? Think it can handle the 5800X's massive TDP? Does anyone have any particular cooler recommendations for the 5800X? [link] [comments]
Doing a clean install of Windows on new SSD, what's the easiest way to reinstall all my programs? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 02:08 PM PST So I recently bought a new NVME SSD and will make it my boot drive. I'm keeping my current boot drive for extra storage and I'm curious what is the best way to transfer my programs to my new drive? I'd rather not clone the drive since there are tons of extraneous files that I no longer need, is my only option a program like EaseUS? [link] [comments]

Posted: 26 Nov 2021 09:08 AM PST Hello Everyone! First time attempting to upgrade my PC, & looking for input/advice. Currently, my PC is used only for simple video editing; using Shotcut, and only connect to the internet for driver and software updates. I'm wanting to add a GPU so I'll be able to play some smaller, indie games. Not trying to play AAA titles or anything. Here's my basic set up: Dell Optiplex 7010 (MT) •i7 Core Processor 3770 @ 3.40GHz •8g RAM •128g SSD •Stock: 240w PSU Doing my own research has left my at a dead end and overwhelmed lol Some say I'll need to upgrade my PSU (willing to do) in order to power any GPU that would fit (not blocking the SATA ports) While others say I can get a low profile card that essentially is just "plug & play" and won't require additional power Any advice would be most appreciated and thank you so much for your time and consideration! :) [link] [comments]

Best "Budget" Z-690 Motherboard Posted: 26 Nov 2021 04:32 PM PST Looking at building a 12th gen intel computer for my brother. I am building him a DDR5. I know that people are saying DDR4 is the same right now, but i don't want to have to replace the motherboard when DDR5 gets better. I am looking for a "budget" option. I know that they are very expensive either way, im looking for a motherboard with the best price to performance. I don't have the money to spend $600-$700 CAD for a motherboard. Any help is appreciated! Thank you in advance! [link] [comments]
So I bought a Gaming Laptop from a guy who used Gorilla glue to hold the M.2 in place. Posted: 25 Nov 2021 08:30 PM PST So just as the title says, the guy used Gorilla glue to secure the M.2 in place because he used an electric screwdriver that stripped the screw hole that the M.2 gets secured on, and instead of using the glue on that stripped piece, he used it on the m.2. So I figure I'd ask if there's any way to remove that guy's mistake without damaging the mobo in the future if I want to upgrade that M.2?... that's literally the only thing that is wrong with the laptop and the deal was too good to pass up. Which PSU should I get out of these three? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 03:25 PM PST Trying to get a PSU while stuff is on sale, but this is my first PC build and I don't totally know what I'm doing. Which of the following would be best?
Here's my build (I have everything but the CPU, motherboard, and PSU):
Definitely leaning towards the be quiet! one, but it seems almost too good to be true. It only has a 5 year warranty compared to the others' 7 and 10 year warranties, so is that something I need to worry about? I don't need it to be completely future-proof, but I'd like it to last as long as possible and I'm doing more wattage than I need in case I upgrade down the line. I don't know whether a 650W psu is enough for my PC Posted: 26 Nov 2021 08:14 PM PST Here are my computer specs: Ryzen 5 5600x Corsair iCUE H100i ELITE CAPPELIX Asus ROG Strix B550-F Gaming Wifi G.SKILL Ripjaws V 32GB 3600Mhz Samsung 980 1TB SSD and a RTX 3060 I don't know if 650w is enough to power my components, and I heard if my psu wattage was too low, there was a chance my pc could catch on fire. Is 650w enough? Or do I need to upgrade to 750w or even 850w? [link] [comments]
My ethernet keeps randomly disconnecting after building a new pc Posted: 26 Nov 2021 11:54 AM PST My Specs: Motherboard: ASUS ROG STRIX Z590-F CPU Intel Core i7 11700k 3.60GHz GPU GTX 1080 8GB I just build a new pc and my ethernet ramdomly disconnects. It happends all the time regardless of what i am doing on my pc, downloading, playing games or just talking on discord. I have tried: - Downloading all of the latest ASUS drivers for my motherboard from ASUS own site link: https://rog.asus.com/motherboards/rog-strix/rog-strix-z590-f-gaming-wifi-model/helpdesk_bios - Read from another thread that i should download these intel drivers Link: https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/download/18293/intel-network-adapter-driver-for-windows-10.html?product=184686 (Didnt work) - And of course i have tried all the basics such as restarting computer, modem and so on... Anyone using a 5800x or 5900x with a GTX 1080? Posted: 26 Nov 2021 05:07 PM PST So like everyone, with the current holiday deals I have been looking to upgrade. My current rig is a 6700k w/ GTX 1080, i game so so on it, mainly using it for video and photo editing. GPUs are hard to find and i was trying to decide between building and staying with my current gpu with either a 5800x or 5900x or buy a prebuilt just to insure i can get a better card ( rebuild, switch things I don't like with time) Anyone made the same upgrade? And able to give me some insight on performance gains would be appreciated. [link] [comments] |
